Yes we did it! I feel really good, and so far today I've continued to stay compliant with Whole30 rules because why not?! Nothing off-plan is calling my name, which is so weird but I'm not complaining I got on the scale this morning & am down 6 lbs. I started at a pretty healthy weight already (which has slowly been creeping up over the years however) so I wasn't expecting any huge number, but it sure feels good to be solidly back in the 130's. Honestly 6lbs in 30 days seems like too much you know?!  I know I'll go offplan a bit for Thanksgiving and we are traveling next week which is always a challenge, but I also foresee myself transitioning to Paleo from now on. And maaayyybeee a January Whole30, we'll see... my babysitter wants to try it so I might go along just to support her

Great job for sticking with it (whoever is left ha ha) -- and sl429 have a super fun Friendsgiving tonight, you deserve it!!!

It is possible that it's the sugar cravings -- those cravings for sugar that happen toward the end of the 30 days, when you think you're well past the cravings, is called an extinction burst. It's mentioned in this Dear Melissa article.

However, if you increase your workouts, you'll definitely need more food. Not to mention, there are just times when people are hungrier. Many women report that this happens in the week leading up to and the first few days of their period. If you are hungry -- the usual litmus test is that you'd eat plain fish and broccoli -- then definitely eat.

Berniesmom & sl429 (and anyone else still with us) HAPPY DAY 30!!! can't wait to hear about your results! I'm coming in strong right behind you, today is my day 29.
It hit me yesterday...I can't believe I've lasted 4 WEEKS without bread, cheese, chocolate, sugar, chewing gum, and alcohol! Four weeks without take-out or drive-throughs! WHO AM I?
Today is my last day in the office until after Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I'm treating myself to a celebratory massage and a couple glasses of wine with my girlfriends. I know we're technically supposed to wait until Day 31, but I gave up alcohol a day before I started W30 so today is officially Day 30 of no alcohol for me. Which is a major feat in itself.
How are y'all celebrating and what's the first thing on your re-intro list? Or are you going to double-down with a Whole60?

I'm still in this... and have had some big cravings the past couple days. They say the 'sugar dragon' might surge again & I guess that's what's happening. And the wine dragon, and the cereal and yogurt dragons too ugghhh....  Also knowing the 30 days is almost over, impatience is starting to surge too  I have kept with the plan faithfully for 25 days now, and I agree that eating paleo sounds pretty doable for the long run and I have learned a lot from this experience. I have not seen any really dramatic results like some of the testimonials, but I do feel good for the most part (minus the tummy trouble, diarrhea almost every day & I can't figure out WHY??!!). I was afraid milk/dairy might have been the cause of my digestive woes, but now with 25 days of absolutely no dairy, I think that's probably not the problem. I'm pretty sure fiber is not the issue either, I am eating a ton of veggies (and very little fruit). I have not used probiotics before, but maybe have to look into them moving forward. Ah well.... here's to day 26!

Hey guys, DAY 29!  Holy cow!

I'm doing well, and considering how much stress I've been under, I am proud of myself for sticking with it to the letter!

Good news/bad news.  No pituitary gland tumor!  Bad news, I have a large "complex" ovarian cyst that needs to be watched for growth and may require surgery.  I also may lose the ovary.  Scary scary scary.  Waiting for my doctor to call me to discuss next steps.

BUT, honestly, I stuck with my whole30!  I did not go for comfort foods.  Though I felt mighty tempted, trust me!  Shows how 30 days isn't long enough to change some really ingrained bad habits.  I also got this news at WORK!  I lost it for about two minutes and was able to bring myself down and focus on my patients for the rest of the shift.  So to me, this is a serious improvement in my anxiety and stress coping skills!

I'm still going for a whole60, though it will be very hard.  I am definitely struggling more now than I have been the whole program with temptation and the sugar dragon.  I cut out fruit a few days ago (I was only eating one apple a day) to see if it was causing my energy/mood fluctuations and OH MAN I was getting sugar dragon cravings for APPLES.  WOW!!!  So fruit is out for now.  I'm leaving sweet potatoes in my diet though, because honestly I need it for energy on workout days and work days when I'm highly active.

I hope everyone is doing great!  I can't wait to see everyone's pics tomorrow!

    Go us!!!
I'm going to keep going with this with the exceptions of: beer on Thanksgiving & then maybe once a week, sweets on Christmas Day, & then sweets again on my birthday, which is in January. Thirty days does not seem like enough.
I took a hip hop class today, which was the first workout I've done in two months, due to back pain. I was surprised & pleased to see my reflection in the mirror. For the first time in years I did not think "Yikes! I have gotten so big!" Also, I can do push-ups now, which I couldn't do before the Whole30 because I was so heavy! Yay!!! Now it's time to start getting FIT!

Hi Guys, I can tell you from experience that the right probiotics can really be a help in getting your gut back to a balanced state. The problem is, there are a lot of crap pills out there that are not worth a damn. It really is good to seek advise and get the right product for you. The internet is full of marketing disguised as advise to sell "supplements" and other non regulated type products that are " not meant to cure or diagnose any disease or condition", but yet are marketed to do just that. Most of these products that are sold as "probiotics" are either not potent, have only a very small amount of active culture(millions instead of billions), and are loaded with fillers. The actual effective products do control overgrown yeast populations in the gut that can contribute to leaky and inflamed intestines and by products of yeast are CO2 and alcohol. Gas and toxin.

This eating plan is in itself one of the best ways to control these bad microbes in the gut, because it takes away their refined carbohydrate food supply and replaces it with lots of anti inflammatory fat, quality protein and hi fibre vegetables, all of which take a much longer time to be digested and form healthy long chain fatty acids and bulk forming mass in the gut. All of this is good for cleaning and healing.

By my second Whole 30 I was not using probiotics at all and feel the best I ever have as far as my gut health goes.

    Thank you Whole 30.

Thanks for the suggestion MayaBee -- I was listening to a podcast that mentioned probiotics just yesterday, and I will definitely look into it. I know nothing about probiotics so I have a little research to do

Congrats on making it to day 28 & for getting over your beer & pastry habit - you must feel great!! I have to admit I had one of those Larabar meals this weekend too ... we were out at a bakery/cafe for breakfast where EVERYTHING is off-limits, so I had a Larabar & a clementine in my bag. It was only the 2nd time I resorted to the larabar all month, so not too bad I think. Meal planning & preparation is getting a little easier but still, quite time consuming.

I am on day 26, and getting a little impatient for 30 days to be over with. Not because i plan to go on an eating spree, I just don't want to be so absorbed with thinking about food constantly! Hope everyone else is still here for these last few days!!

Everyone still out there?? Day 24 for me ... less than a week til the "finish"! I am going out for dinner tonight, I checked the menu so I have my (boring) order ready ha ha...  I'm feeling good, for the most part. Part of why I started this Whole30 is because I seem to have a really sensitive tummy (I won't go into detail) & I'm not sure what triggers these episodes & irregularity. Well.... it really hasn't changed much, in fact this past week it's gotten worse. So... it has me wondering if my sensitivity is something like eggs. I feel great in all other regards so I will stick it out the 30 days (and beyond) but I was really hoping to find an answer to my tummy woes.  Very curious about reintroducing foods as well to get some more clues as to what's going on.

Hope you are all hanging in there - would love to know how everyone is feeling now in the home stretch!

When I started I the Whole30 I wore size 12 jeans. On Day 20 I was a size 8, which I was happy about. Only 3 days after that, on Day 23, I was down to my size 6 jeans! Then I started feeling suspicious & a little freaked out by how small I was getting so quickly. Before I started this, I drank a lot of beer & ate a lot of pastries (coping with a divorce & being a single mom of two children for 6 days a week). I was basically made of beer & pastries, 3 sizes worth!

I'm still at it, on Day 28! In the past week I got super busy single momming two children & also taking on some additional volunteer activities, which meant that I didn't make much time for meal planning & prepping. Therefore, there were a couple times when I ended up having a Lara bar as a meal. Not good, I know. It was a good lesson in how important planning is when you do this.

Berniesmom, have you tried taking probiotics? My best friend had a very sensitive stomach for a couple years. Her stools were almost always soft. She suspects that it started after she took a round of penicillin, but she's not sure. Anyway, she got a referral from her primary physician to see a nutritionist. The nutritionist prescribed probiotic tablets for her to take every day because she thought her intestinal flora might be out of balance. (Note: The nutritionist chose a specific probiotic at a specific dosage that I can't remember. My point is that it doesn't seem like something that my friend could have simply self-diagnosed & self-prescribed.). After a few days of taking the probiotics, my friend's tummy problems were resolved for the first time in years! She has been feeling great for several weeks now. Perhaps it would help you to see a nutritionist? It wouldn't hurt, right?

Another day on the books -- but I have to admit I'm tired of giving EVERY meal so much thought! My husband & I are going out friday night and staying in a hotel to celebrate his birthday. I spent so much time organizing the babysitter, getting show tickets, finding the right hotel and damnnn  I just don't see any restaurants nearby that have ANYTHING on the menu that's compliant. Yes I will ask about ingredients and how the food is prepared and find *something* to eat but I won't be happy to spend $$$ on it... and there's still a decent chance they'll put something in there non-compliant and I'll never know.  Oh well... it's a small thing among so many other fun things planned this weekend, but going out to eat is just really frustrating. Whole30 is best done in hermit mode ha! In other (good) news, we're on day 22 wow!!

Holy cow is it really DAY 20?! Two-thirds of the way in and a full three weeks as of tomorrow! I can hardly believe it but like others have said, it is so much easier at this point and I just want to keep going!
I've been sleeping very soundly this week and I've awakened with no alarm at 5am for two days in a row, which is truly amazing for me! I am soooooo not a morning person. I downloaded a sleep tracking app and plan to start using it tonight because I'm really curious to see what it tells me.
I tried the Cracklin' Chicken recipe I posted above and OMG it was so good! I'm very skeptical of how it can be healthy because it tastes THAT GOOD. But it's "on plan" so I'm going with it! Move over, Popeyes and KFC.
You know what else I just realized? This weekend will be the last weekend we have to be fully W30 compliant! We've got this!!!
How is everyone else doing this week?

Yayy good job everyone! I also feel my pants are fitting a little better, my mood has been good, and I'm not missing sugar or alcohol or grains as much as I thought I would. It's getting easier day by day.  My tummy is still pretty unpredictable -- still not "regular" ugh! but hopefully that will happen...  Can't believe how far we've come!

I'm still here too! I'm a little behind you (day 20 today) but I also see how 30 days isn't really enough... the first half was so difficult, now the 2nd half feels a lot easier and is going by faster. Good stuff!  I feel really good, but still have some things I'd like to keep working on so I plan to continue with a paleo diet... not sure about keeping Whole30 compliant for the long run. Will probably start a new Whole30 in January (along with half the world  you know that thread will be active!!).

Its funny how WINE is so hard to give up. It really is delicious isn't it?! Once you get past the sugar it's not so hard to say no to sweets and junk food. Wine on the other hand, well I do miss it! Would love to enjoy a small glass with some of these delicious meals I've been cooking -- the lamb meatballs from the Well Fed cook book are mmm mm good!

Hang in there ladies, I feel like even more good stuff is just around the corner for all of us!

I think that's why I was feeling guitly... because it did feel a bit like an old habit -- I know I *could* have grabbed something besides a lara bar..but I chose the lara bar anyway  .  I think I got it out of my system though - I have a nice veggie stew and grilled chicken on tap for dinner tonight. Looking forward to getting over this little hump!

When you saute, much of the cooking fat stays behind in the pan. You may need to compensate by adding more fat after cooking.
A good rule of thumb on this is satiety.  If you're hungry 4-5 hours after eating a meal, you've consumed enough fat.  If you're hungry earlier, then add more fat after cooking.   If your meals are lasting you more than five hours, then cut back on portions.
You essentially tailor your portions to get you to a place when your meals satiate you for 4-5 hours.

2 weeks today, and almost to the halfway point yeahh!! Congrats everyone on making it through Halloween too! I'm glad to read your comments because well... I'm not feeling all that different at this point either. Sleep has been meh, maybe a little better than usual. Still have tummy issues.which is the main reason I am doing this Whole30. I don't think I've lost weight, maybe a pound or 2.  I worked out for the first time earlier this week - went for an easy 3 mile run and afterward felt like complete crap!!  That was disheartening because I expected to feel good but it was the complete opposite. I will try another run tomorrow

So anyway... I am sticking with it! It's getting much easier and I do feel pretty good -- just not "amazing" so maybe that feeling is yet to come.I need to look up more recipes because I feel food boredom sneaking up on me...
