Lisa K. got a reaction from Michaela Elmore Cogswell in Brand Spanking New To This...Anyone Else??
Preparation is huge but you already knew that from everyone else's responses. I started a blog and blogged about my W30 adventures every day. It helped me stay focused and kept me accountable because my friends were reading them too! Reading It Starts With Food also helped me see why it was so important to stick with it. I wasn't just eating clean because it was healthy, I was eating clean and I knew why I needed to keep eating that way. This one might sound crazy, but when I would get antsy I'd search the internet for paleo-compliant/W30 foods and it would take my attention away from my cravings. Looking at food didn't make me feel hungry. Weird, I know.
Best of luck to you! If you stick with it 100% you'll see some great results!

Hi Jaime, Welcome to W30. As everyone has already said, planning and preperation is definitely key so planning when to start and working towards that is a great idea. Having the book definitely helps but don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have and vent as often as you want. you'll usually find loads of others who've had similar experiences. Good luck and keep us posted how you're doing.

Dive in on the 1st! It's not easy but it is totally worth it. Prep as much as you can on your days off, having easy easy access proteins and veggies has been key to my sanity. Know there really will be days when you will just be mad at the world (the kill everything stage is right on the money!) have a plan in place to deal with that, I've found hot baths and mindless magazines to be my go to escape. Beyond that, relax and enjoy the ride, it really is empowering to spend a full 30 days focused on your health and well being. Celebrate your successes along the way and know you're giving your body a wonderful gift.
Lisa K. got a reaction from bonnynancy in Friends who want to go "semi" paleo, is that legit?
I think any attempts at eating healthier are better than eating what they normally eat. It seems like there are so many paleo-police out there. Who cares if someone eats clean during the week and then eats whatever they want on the weekend? For five out of seven days they put good food into their bodies. Surely that has to be better than eating pizza and pasta for all seven days. Don't let it get to you. Be happy that you have inspired them to change they way they eat, even if it's just a little.
Lisa K. reacted to midgetinthebox in Spotting the Whole Time
I have had this problem constantly whenever changing my diet. I am on nuvaring and typically continuous cycle, so when it happens I'll let my period happen and it seems to help reset my body and the spotting will stop. I'm going to be doing the whole 30 January but eat paleo already so I'm hoping this isn't going to happen next month.
Lisa K. got a reaction from Robin Strathdee in Thanksgiving (or other holiday) success??
I started my Whole30 on November 8th and wanted to stay on track as much as possible during Thanksgiving even though it is my favorite time of the year to entertain. My husband was in town visting, and he brought a house guest. I made Whole30 or paleo compliant and non-compliant foods so we could all enjoy the meal. Prior to Thanksgiving I also planned any off-roading that would occur, and it was very minimal.
Oven roasted turkey (Whole30)
Sweet potato casserole (paleo)
Cranberry sauce (paleo)
Chocolate mousse tarts (paleo)
I had turkey with cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, a couple of chocolate mousse tarts (all paleo or Whole30) and for my off-roading I enjoyed a glass of wine and a sliver of cheesecake. It was great!

There could be a lot going on here.
You may be one of those people that need more than a whole30.
Maybe you were not eating enough proteins, veggies AND fats at every meal.
Were you eating any starchy veggies like butternut squash or sweet potato?
Noting the improvements you did make, it really sounds like more than one thing is happening. If you have had gut issues for a long time, maybe you have just started to see healing.
Just some thoughts!
