    Bloating

Hi all, I am on evening of day 8 and started due to severe IBS symptoms for a long time.. since starting my bloating and pain has pretty much gone (woohoo!) but tonight I had steamed salmon bought from shop (had salmon loads already) boiled broccoli (had before) and sweet potato(had loads of times) and I’ve had really bad bloating for the last three hours! It’s just like it used to be.. None of the food had ingredients lists so I have no idea what I’m reacting to. Has anyone else had this? could anyone suggest what it could be? Any help massively appreciated :) thank you!
  2. Hi I posted in the intro/welcome forum also.. I'm on day 6 and surprised to have my chronic acid reflux / GERD that I was hoping to address in 'reintroduction' as to which foods were triggering. Right now I just have a sore throat and chest congestion, but can feel the cough coming on which is really horrible, keeps me up all night with the coughing attacks, etc. I also have been having low energy, constipation, and bloating. I'm wondering if there are some logical answers to this? Like perhaps, I'm detoxing from a diet heavy in sugar and had gotten away from my healthy habits, so now my body is trying to get rid of some of those reserves? I'm staying with it and feeling positive and hopeful, but man I feel crummy!! Bethany
  3. Hello Whole30 Nation! I would love to be active here, as I don't have anyone IRL that I'm doing my challenge with. I was actually on a first date who told me about how he loves the whole30, had heard about it before- and really was looking for something like this, so got the books and started a few days later! I am normally pretty healthy with diet and exercise, however it has gotten a bit out of hand in the past year or so. I chose to take the challenge for three main reasons: 1. address and break the sugar addiction that was getting out of control 2. see if I can find a solution for some troubling chronic physical ailments such as acid reflux / GERD causing a horrible cough; and constipation 3. reset my healthy eating habits and get back to my ideal weight. I know its still early- however I have completed a week of eating according to the plan and thought I would share one positive and one negative: POSITIVE: I have been surprised that I'm not hungry or craving sugar, almost from the very beginning. My sugar cravings were so strong before, and I seem to be completely satisfied by the meals that I don't even want to snack/eat dessert which SHOCKS me. NEGATIVE: the GERD cough and constipation immediately flared up badly. Also, I've been extremely low energy and don't feel like exercising at all, hard to get out of bed, etc. I'm extremely bloated and feel heavier than when I started. Does anyone else have the experience of low energy at the beginning, have constipation/bloating, and/or trigger your chronic ailments you were hoping to get rid of? And great to be here, I'm still excited about the program just wondering if anyone has any ideas why I'm experiencing this. Thanks! Bethany
  4. Hello. I would like to share my experience with Whole30 and see if anyone is feeling the same as me. I have been compliant, however I have had a smoothie (with added fats) sometimes because I've been too sick to eat. I mostly had them in the first 2 weeks then stopped. Then I had one about 2 days ago as I was ill and could barely eat. I started whole30 as I have very severe fatigue and issues with dizziness and motion sickness. I had no digestive issues other than little episodes of gas like anyone, and I tended towards being a little constipated at times. Since day 4 of whole30, my digestion has been a mess and it gets worse and worse. The last few days have been 24 hour diarrhoea and stabbing abdominal pain like trapped gas. The diarrhea doesn't relieve it. Sometimes I go 5x a day. Also as far as my symptoms I started whole30 for, they are even worse. I am so exhausted I cry every single day and feel like my life will never regain any normality. I can barely go for a walk and work is torture. I was overweigjt but fairly fit before whole30 and could walk and jog. But I did have long term fatigue but I didn't feel like I was dying like this. I have been tested for lots of things and my iron dropped a bit and my thyroid stimulating hormone is a bit low indicating my thyroid is over functioning, but my thyroid hormone levels are fine and negative autoantibodies. I am seeing my GP, a naturopath, acupuncture, psychologist. Before this I had never even paid for a massage, but I feel I am having an extreme health crisis. I'm contemplating quitting my job and not getting out of bed anymore. I have no idea what is happening to me. The digestive issues have been the cherry on top and I fear they won't stop when I stop whole30. I've never had digestive problems like this. As I said, my meals have not been always perfect template (smoothies, sometimes skipping meals) as I'm so ill and doing what I can to survive at this point. I also do rotating roster shift work which makes my whole life hard and is part of my fatigue issues. But I try to follow recommendations otherwise and am eating plenty of veg, appropriate protein and plenty of fat from avocado, olive oil, home made mayo. I have stopped eating ghee, nut butter 2 days ago, as I never ate nuts before, very rarely. I've stopped having eggs apart from the bit of raw egg in my mayo. I was having a lot before, but I ate a lot of eggs in my regular duet too. I still eat 3 serves of fruit instead of the recommended 2, because my tummy wants fruit and plain foods, not fatty rich foods. Example of my common meals lately would be minced chicken breast and zucchini burger patty with roast potato/pumpkin, a salad and home made mayo. Or mackerel fish with pan fried potato hash brown patties (grated white or sweet potato) and a salad with mayo and a bit of hot sauce. Or beef chow mein style - cooked with cabbage, carrot, curry powder, garlic etc on top of sweet potato noodles. Always compliant ingredients and seasonings. I make all my own food. I never had an issue with hot sauces, curry powder or anything lije that before and mainly eat modified versions of what I ate before. Only other thing that's increased on the diet for me is root vegetables like potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, squash and extra use of garlic/onion powder for flavour. Whole30 has been such a bad experience, I feel like I'm having a physical breakdown. Has anyone else felt this and did you find the cause?

    Day 10, second W30

Hi all, I'm a new forum-er but not completely new to W30. I'm on Day 10 of my second W30. I'll cut to the chase...I know this is particularly common, but I'm looking for some relief here from some symptoms I'm having. Non-W30, I eat pretty paleo-ish + wine on the weekends. We have four young kids, I mean, come on. But I am SO bloated and constipated on day 10. I've only had one decent (complete) BM since starting this W30. Even my three year old said, "Mommy, you have a big tummy", and I'm a ladies size 4! Also had lots of dull headaches, body aches, feeling arthritis in my hands and sometimes knees. I took an epsom salt hot bath last night after a good run yesterday and today seems even worse, maybe more detox from the bath? I'm staying completely on plan, drinking lots of water (some of it sparkling), and coffee in the am. I do eat more Rx bars than I'd like to admit but as of today I'll do my best to cut those too. My job is on call and sometimes I do need to swing into somewhere quickly and pick up a Rx bar. (I help women have babies for a living- crazy schedule.) We eat eggs in ghee and sauerkraut for breakfast, a W30 slow cooker chicken meal for lunch, and a Territory Whole 30 meal we order for dinner. I have kombucha sometimes too. Anyways, any thoughts? I'm also taking a probiotic and went to take a digestive enzyme today but realized it had Xylitol in it so I'll have to go get a new brand... Am I allowed to do an enema? Not sure that would even work...
  6. I know it's a common problem on W30 but it's making me a bit crazy. So, I've just finished day 9 of my first (and prob last) Whole 30. Prior to this, I've always eaten basically well, including all grains, legumes and dairy, but never enough vegetables or fruit, and way too much sugar. I had sugar in tea and coffee, frequent chocolate, and lots of biscuits and sweet treats! So I'm doing this to reset my diet and get rid of my sugar cravings once and for all. Normally, my digestion is very good, and although I did get bloated after a carb heavy meal such as pasta, once I took steps to reduce my sugar consumption and eat more veggies, my stomach would flatten within a couple of days. I have no medical issues at all. My challenges are that I have a one year old and I'm a working single mum, so I find it hard to get out to exercise unless it's pushing a pram around the streets. Now, I'm having problems I've never had before! Bloated always, a bit better in the mornings but worse at night, just as if I'd eaten a big refined carb meal. Gas (ugh). Bunged up for the first 5 days, then intermittent runs since then. And now, pale, floaty poo, making me think that I'm not digesting fat properly. It's NOT FAIR! I'm 100% compliant with the regime with no cheats or technicalities. Here is a sample of what I'm eating, what I had today (I'm getting lots of variety too with different meals every day, all cooked from scratch, including red meat, poultry, eggs and fish, many different veggies). 1. Scrambled eggs x 2, mushrooms sautéed in ghee, grilled tomato, baby spinach leaves and 1/3 poached chicken breast, plus 10 cashews. Mug herbal tea 2. Big bowl chicken and veg soup with homemade stock and 2/3 added poached chicken breast, 1 banana (veg in soup was sweet potato, carrot, zucchini and spring onion) Long black coffee Hard boiled egg and 6 cashews for emergency snack (don't usually snack but felt hollow today) 3. Roast lamb with roasted sweet potato, carrot, pumpkin and steamed broccoli, gravy made from pulsed leftover roast veg, pan juices and balsamic vinegar I usually have a couple tablespoons of coconut butter with an apple or a handful of berries after dinner, but didn't tonight as had already had banana for lunch. Plenty of water, at least 2 liters a day. The advice I'm reading on the forums for digestive issues seems to be to take enzymes and to add a probiotic. If this way of eating is so fabulous, why should I need supplementation to help my body do what it's always done well before (when I was eating "dirty")? Is it possible that some people's guts are just not suited to this regime, or rather, this regime is not one size fits all! I am starting to worry that a high animal protein/high fat diet could be causing lasting harm to my digestive tract. I don't want to turn into one of the many, many people who can't eat grains or legumes or dairy foods without getting stomach aches! Is this regime possibly going to cause me a problem where previously none existed?
