  1. Hi everyone! I am on day 5 of my first ever Whole30! It is going really well with eating and meal planning, etc. We were really prepared. However, I have been in "the hangover" phase since day 3. It's bad. My back hurts (which never hurts), I am achey, tired, irritable, and my throat is very sore (WTF?) What gives? Is there anything I can do to get through this phase? Or do I need to just wait it out? I was fairly healthy before the program, running and doing yoga regularly (neither of which I can do right now) and eating kale and very few processed foods. So, I am a bit surprised I feel this crappy. HELP!
  2. Hello everyone! Today is my Day 5 and instead of Kill All the Things, I'm a little more Tired and Headachy and No Energy. I would normally attribute this headache to "didn't have coffee yet" or "didn't sleep well" but I've had my daily cup of black coffee and I slept like a baby last night. Did the day 6 fatigue kick in early you think?

    Not Eating Enough

    Hi everyone! I am on day 5 of the Whole30 and I am struggling a little bit. I haven't had any cravings (knock on wood), but I am super hungry. I do not think that I am eating enough, but I am not sure what I need to incorporate and how much more I need to incorporate. I started training for a half marathon two weeks ago, so I do not know if that has anything to do with my hunger, but I always make sure to have my pre and post workout meals. I should note that I am out of shape, so these past two weeks have just involved 1-1.5 miles runs and some weight training, nothing too crazy. I would love to stick with the Whole30 and I want a better relationship with food so any suggestions would be very helpful. I have been cooking with olive oil for each of my meals, but I am not sure if that counts as my fats. Here is what I ate the past few days: Breakfast- Omelet with 4 eggs, 2 cup of kale and 1/2 cups of green peppers, 1/2 sweet potato, and a mini sausage. ( I was so full this meal and I couldn't even finish everything and my fullness lasted awhile!) Lunch- 2 chicken tenderloins, 1/3 avocado, 2 cups of mixed veggies Dinner- Salad (2 cups of veggies), 1/2 sweet potato, 2 hard-boiled eggs. Hope you guys can help!
  4. So, it's the morning of DAY 5. So far I haven't noticed anything significant in terms of cravings, or problems (apart from REALLY having to plan & prepare food, and make time for this, and reading SO many food labels). BUT the awesome Whole 30 Daily Newsletter, which I'm really enjoying, suggested doing this today: "one thing that is significantly better now than it was just five short days ago". And for me the one thing that I notice is that I'm IN CONTROL again. I'm not scoffing down mountains of sugar & carbs and then looking/buying more. It's a great feeling to feel like I'm controlling the food instead of the food controlling me! ONWARDS & UPWARDS!
  5. I woke up today, day 5, and felt dizzy and achy and crappy. At first I assumed it was my body reacting to the elimination of sugar and was really wanting to eat cereal or something. I had a banana and kept feeling awful, then I had diarrhea and felt dizzy and more increased flu like symptoms. My kids had the pukes 4 days ago so I guess it could be that. I am having ginger tea which is good and not feeling like eating anything, especially meat or veggies. I am having sulfur burps and nausea. I knoe on day4-5 it says you are grouchy and hate everyone but this doesn't really coincide with my symptoms. Any advice? Thank you.
  6. So this is my 2nd attempt at Whole30, last time I made it 13 days, then it was my birthday and while I tried my best, I fell off the wagon with beer, sushi, and a few bites of cheesecake. I took a break of about 2 weeks, still eating pretty Whole30ish but started back full force this Monday. Compared to my last go at this, my mood swings are non-existent, I didn't have much of a "hangover" and I have not felt the urge to kill anything, but I am SOOO bloated...Like I felt less bloated Saturday after eating a BurgerFi Cheeseburger and fries I am on Day 5 and I don't understand why I do not physically feel better/lighter like I did last round. Day 5 and 6 of my 1st attempt my pants were already way looser and I was feeling 100 times better..this time I just feel fat and bloated and miserable. I have basically followed the same meal plan as my first attempt a month ago, fewer nuts this time...what am I doing wrong? Day 1 - Breakfast: spinach frittata, grapes, 1/2 avocado; Lunch: spaghetti squash, tomato sauce/ground turkey; Snack: pistaccios (not the best, I know..) and grapes; Dinner - chicken caccitorie; Morning workout - Chalean Extreme Day 2 - Breakfast: leftover spinach frittata, grapes, 1/2 avocado; Snack: Apple; Lunch: spinach, chicken, and 1/2 avocado salad with Oil and Vinegar; Snack: almonds; Dinner - lettuce wrapped burger with mustard and a lettuce/tomato/cucumber salad with red wine vinegar; Morning workout - Chalean Extreme (I was pretty hungry on this day) Day 3 - Breakfast: leftover spinach frittata, grapes, 1/2 avocado; Lunch: leftover spaghetti squash, tomato sauce/ground turkey; Snack: grapes; Dinner - no dinner, no appetite, I guess you could put my grape snack in place of dinner; Afternoon workout - Chalean Extreme Day 4 - Breakfast: leftover spinach frittata, grapes, 1/2 avocado; Snack: Apple; Lunch: spinach, chicken, and 1/2 avocado salad with Oil and Vinegar; Snack: grapes; Dinner: breakfast casserole, grapes, okra (super weird combo...I know); Afternoon workout - Chalean Extreme Day 5 - Breakfast: leftover breakfast casserole, grapes I have drank at LEAST 3.72 Liters of water every day, if not more...I am so thankful that I'm not experiencing the mood swings I did on my first attempt but I am so confused and pretty bummed as to why I am STILL feeling so fat and bloated. HELP!
  7. I travel for my job so I knew I'd come up against HUGE obstacles but the hunger monster is going to be the death of me! I brought as much food as I could pack for 4 days but it doesn't feel enough and the hotel restaurant can only be so accommodating! Yes, the struggle is real today! I'll go workout and distract but I'm sure I'm not the only one in this journey that feels the same.
  8. Hey everyone! On day 5 of my first Whole30 & it's been a bit of a rough ride. Prior to starting, I considered myself to eat relatively healthy: love vegetables, fruit, gluten-free (due to Celiac's), shopped primarily organic (as much as I could). But, unfortunately I allowed the stress of graduate school & a tough internship, create habits that I now believe to be detrimental: having alcohol every night (under the guise that moderation helped with LDL & HDL levels), excessive coffee intake (2-3 cups/day, most days, with half & half, only) & some SERIOUS SALT CRAVINGS! I mean, it was nothing for me to take down a large bag of chips in a couple days! Now, 6 months post-thesis defense, I'm tired of being 'tired' at 3pm everyday, fighting to stay awake, alert & not cranky. As luck would have it, I had a physical a month ago, mentioned I was unusually lethargic to my doctor & he recommended that I get the standard blood screenings (for iron, thyroid, etc) and also mentioned the 'It Starts with Food'/Whole30 movement. He stated he tried it & he's never felt better. Like me, he's gluten free & found that dairy & legumes were adding to his fatigue, during the reintroduction phase of Whole30. Fortunately, all my blood work is normal, my weight is fine for my height (5'5", 125lbs) so this must mean, something else is going on.... I desperately want to regain my health & energy back... I'm eloping in 2 months, I used to jog/hike regularly & now I'm going to bed by 7 - 8pm every night, then waking up at 3am, falling back to sleep & still tired in the morning. Which leads me to Day 5 & Whole30... I've obviously eliminated alcohol, chips & dairy from my diet. But, coffee (with nothing in it, obviously)... that's another story. I'm thinking I'll gradually ween from coffee over the next couple of weeks. The major thing I think about is having alcohol... because I had it EVERY night with dinner! Scary to think it has that much control over me! But in other Whole30 news, I'm happy to report that I no longer have afternoon headaches, like I did in days 1 - 3. Today was the first day I didn't feel hunger pangs 3 hours post meal... that's great! My biggest grief is how ACHY I feel...even today!!! Does anyone else feel achy???!!! I knew that people would experience the 'carb flu', but this is rough. I also remember reading about crankiness... that's me right now, especially in the afternoon! I feel bad for my coworkers - I'm just trying to steer clear & immerse myself in work. I'd love to hear if anyone else is feeling achy & cranky!!!! Thanks so much!!!

    Detox! day 5 and want to climb out of my skin

    Wow I am on day 5 and between yesterday and today I feel crazy, stressed, like there is a force inside my body that needs to get out. Anxiety level high, blood pressure high. Is there something I can do except for eating a piece of cake or drinking a glass of wine. Lol.

    Day 5

    Today marks Day 5 for me on Whole30!! While I feel mentally strong, my body is fatigued. I haven't been able to get much sleep and last night was no sleep b/c my toddler is suffering with a cold and was super conjested and fussy. But nevertheless, I have resolved that I will see this all the way through no matter what. This morning I made a (4) egg scramble with spinach, shiitake mushrooms, purple onion fried in ghee topped with a little avocado and tomato. I have never cooked so much in one week...largely due to my underestimation of how much protein and vegetables I would need to successfully make it through the week. I've been to my farmer's market twice and I've spent over $200 on meats, fresh veggies, fruit (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, figs, cantaloupe) seasoning, organic coconut milk/cream/flakes, raw nuts, etc. I am still working out at the gym daily and I've noticed that my recovery is much quicker. Oddly enough, I haven't experience any withdrawal symptoms (yet...crossed fingers) other than fatigue. I'm not craving any sweets and the sight and/or smell of them doesn't bother me. This weekend will be trying b/c I will be out and about with friends, but I am already thinking of a master plan. I definitely plan to do as Mel suggested at the bar and get a club soda with several olivies b/c my friends will definitely take note if I'm not drinking. At this point, I don't want to disclose what I'm doing just yet. I want to wait until the end of the 30 days and they ask me what I'm doing b/c the changes are so astonishing. My Beau knows that I'm on the Whole30 and supports me fully, so for now he's the only one in my circle clued in. For me this is a very personal decision and not something I want to defend. I want to be fully converted and experiencing the benefits before I become a spokesperson for the lifestyle. I've been trying to shake my carb/sugar addiction for years and due to the variety of real food I'm able to eat during this program I don't miss the bread, pasta, sweets, dairy, beans, etc. I'm enjoying the full flavor of fresh vegetables, fruits and well seasoned meats. Curry chicken so far is my absolute favorite dish. Curry infused with coconut oil and cream makes the chicken so delectable. Just deliciousness! Hey, I love to chew...what can I say! Congrats to all of you well ahead of me!
