  1. Under doctors orders I went dairy/ gluten free which led to me feeling amazing which led me to whole30. About 2 weeks ago, I got a cold which has now morphed into Bronchitis and I feel like garbage. Why when I feel like garbage do I want to put garbage into my body!? I am not on a 30 day right now but have been eating a Paleo diet. The last 4 days I have lost desire:energy to get in the kitchen and take care of my food prep and myself. I've beeen sucking on cough drops that contain sugar and have been consuming honey. Being Insulin Resistant this was a very poor choice on my part as now the insatiable hunger is back. I want All.The.bread and I just ate 2 pancakes so I could take my antibiotics WHAT????? (thanks for not putting them away DH) what the heck did I just do!? HAS anyone experienced a terrible/cold or flu? What do you take? What home remedies do you use that are sugar/honey free? I believe that introducing the sugar from the cough drops started a downward spiral. Time to reset ASAP.
  2. Advil

    Can you take advil?
  3. Hi - I take Ellura to help prevent UTIs (which I was getting about once every 4 weeks for over 6 months). It helps a lot but I just noticed that it has some weird ingredients. I'm on Day 13 and don't want to start over and really want to stay on this medicine, but I want to make sure I am really getting all the benefits of the program. Thoughts? The ingredients in Ellura are Proanthocyanidins (from Cranberry juice concentrate extract powder), gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide. Thanks.
  4. I started Whole 30 on Monday, but Tuesday went to the Dr. for a sinus infection and was prescribed Augmentin, an antibiotic. Is it okay to take this medicine while on the Whole 30? Also, what about aspirin?
  5. Cough Medicine

So, my doctor prescribed an antibiotic and a cough syrup on Monday for my bronchitis and sinus infection. I started taking the antibiotic right away but I resisted the syrup until last night, knowing it had some form of sweetener in it. I finally caved and took it last night because coughing fits were keeping me from sleeping. I've been drinking Throat Coat tea and lemon water but I don't have a sore throat, just deep, rumbly coughing fits that are the hallmark of bronchitis. I know that a doctor's orders trump the requirements of the Whole30, but does this mean I need to re-start (again)? The syrup was still quite bitter but I know it was not compliant. It definitely did NOT awaken the sugar dragon, though. Appreciate any insight. Thanks, -Lauren (GGG)
  6. Oncoming cold.....

I have an oncoming chest cold. I typically will take zinc lozenges. EVERY ONE I looked at (even sugar-free) has non-compliant "inactive ingredients" Any suggestions. It is staring to creep into my chest. I am scared to take anything! Whole 30 Day 12. Emergen - C also has non-compliant ingredients.
  7. Medications

Hi Everyone I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but I figured it's something I should ask (and hopefully get the answer to) before I start my Whole30 journey. I get headaches and migraines a lot and I find myself needing to take Excederine whenever I get them. I know this isn't a food, drink or ingredient but I was wondering if this was something I was allowed to ingest during the Whole30. Thanks for your help!
  8. contracted a nasty cough

I'm on day 11 and doing great, however I have contracted a nasty cough from a co-worker...boooooooo! I am drinking herbal tea like it is going out of style but I'm wondering is there any sort of OTC cough reliever that is Whole 30 compliant? I'm feeling pretty rough and I am fighting this thing like a pro-boxer but I think I'm going to need more than tea to kick this. Ninja cold fighting skills would be great right about now.
  9. I have just finished day 26 of Whole 30. Unfortunately, I have a cold. I typically turn to Nyquill to help with the symptoms and to get good sleep. However, it is loaded with sugar and alcohol which are not W30 compliant. I typically use throat drops to help with the scratchy throat and coughing. They also have a lot of sugar. Anyone have suggestions to on what to use instead? I don't want to go off W30 this close to the end. Thanks.
  10. So I am in a panic, 2 days from the end! (Day 28) I've lost my mojo! I haven't cheated, prob too many nuts in general, but that's the case all the time. I have come down with a wretched head cold and since Friday I've taken cold meds. Nighttime stuff and some sudafed for sinus pressure. I haven't visited the ladies room....if you know what I mean....since Saturday! I feel like I'm going to explode! My food is fine! I'm following the rules and want to finish strong. Only other element is I'm coming up on that lovely lady time.....arghh! I will be so depressed if on the 30th this is not seriously different. I feel gigantic, bloated and wouldn't even want to put a tape measure around my waist! Do you think cold meds could cause this much trouble? Or is it that plus PMS causing the perfect storm? So frustrated! And a little sad that it might end badly.
  11. can I have... chewable medicine?

I'm not able to swallow pills and I've taken chewable medicines in the past, but they are filled with all sorts of lengthy ingredients, none of which I can readily identify, and some of which are the sugars listed as not okay in the guidelines. That being said, being sick is miserable, and it would be nice to be able to take some advil or tylenol to ward off the symptoms. Likewise, when I have a sore throat, sucking on a few throat drops makes the day much better, but those are of course filled with either sugar or artificial sweeteners. What's the whole 30 stance on medicines?
