  1. Hello! I am 14 and I’m on my 15th day to of Whole 30. I have done Whole 30 about 4 to 5 times in the past and I’ve mostly stuck onto it eating and lifestyle wise. I have a friend who wants me to sleepover and I’m stuck! I want to eat Whole 30, but I don’t want to discriminate her by telling her I eat this way and possibly offend her or make her feel less of herself. Would it be ok if I had a cheat day for 1 day and then just continue the next day as if it was yesterday? (No, I’m not doing this for weight loss, I have a few food allergies:) Thanks!
  2. Kia ora! Back in the lounge now in Aukland but it's a different experience. 8:45AM in Vancouver and 5:45AM here (although we skipped a day - I missed Chinese New Years! Gung Hay Fat Choy everyone!) and I have no need to eat anything. I had fruit and nuts for breakfast and a bag of potato chips - not technically compliant but, when things are tough, the tough have to make due with what's on hand. I think the cabin attendants were irritated by my dietary requests - I said no to everything they offered after asking how it was prepared. I did eat a piece of salmon that was steamed and sauceless. BUT - I made it!! I have successfully navigated 15 hours of biz class service both on the ground and in the air and am still W30. Yeah me. Now on to the next challenge - the final 5 days in Adelaide. My middle daughter, our Canadian-Australian, has said that all talk of dieting is an emotional trigger for her. I don't doubt it - she grew up in my constantly dieting world - losing and gaining the same 10, 20, 50lbs over and over again. Despite our own weight gains, Hubs and I were always talking about our kids' food choices - my girls called their dad the Carb Police. To this day, they joke about the things we said. I'm not proud of this - I realize Hubs and I created a toxic environment where food was an enemy and weight gain was inevitable. Fortunately, on the balance of things, we did many more things right and have enjoyed wonderful relationships with our kids and their partners but - that parental moment when you look back and wish you could change one thing... food and our relationship to it is that one thing. So, fast forward to 2019. Gee and I decided C-A should know about this W30 ahead of time so she wouldn't feel like we were doing something without her. C-A has a bit of challenge with us not keeping her in the lopp - it makes her feel isolated. We didn't tell her that her favourite cat was ill until it was too late. I get that it's hard being so far away. ANYWAY - we try to be more informative so she doesn't feel too out of the loop. So, we told her about the W30 and that's when she said "dieting talk is triggering for me" so, we left it at that. Now I am going to her home for 9 weeks - as I've done successfully before. But, for the first 6 days, I'll be W30. This is going to take some finessing! I will be able to manage, I think, but I don't want any tension starting off the trip. We will take this one day at a time.
  3. I am going on a little trip this weekend with my family and am planning to take all of my own food. I was wondering if anyone had tips or suggestions for any coolers or food bags that are good for traveling?? Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi all, any other Whole 30-ers in Washington DC? I'm on Day 6 and I cook a lot, but wanted to share how I've managed to go to restaurants so far. Hope others will contribute a few ideas, too! Casual dining: Sweetgreen, Cava, Beefsteak, Taylor Gourmet, Pleasant Pops (if you can resist the popsicles!)... DC is at no loss of good, fresh, fast-casual restaurants for the 9-to-5 lunch crowd. You just need to (nicely) request substitutions, oil and vinegar dressings, etc. etc. Restaurants: Agora, Zaytinya... Middle Eastern has been the way to go for me. Plenty of compliant dips, veggie tapas, and grilled meats to go around. Food shopping: It's August, so farmer's markets are your best bet! Honestly, going to Safeway is uncomfortable, Whole Foods has too many "healthy" temptations, but the Dupont Farmer's Market made me so happy. Just walk really quickly past Keswick cheeses.
  5. I started yesterday July 9. Would like to start a thread on how to best pack and prep for travel, work travel in particular. Long car rides, flights, hotels, dinner with colleagues also, great restaurant choices for cities we are visiting! i travel a lot for Work and pleasure. Coming up in next 30 days: road trip to Columbus OH (10 hour road trip - 4 days of conference center session - 10 hours back), 2 hour flight to Chicago with several days at hotel. During reintroduction comes : Family vacation to acadia Maine (7 hour drive, rental house for a week, 7 hours back), international travel (Koblenz Germany) Let’s get started! Who has tips for long car rides or recommendation in Columbus?

    Wedding/Travel Food

    Hi y'all! So I am heading to a wedding about 4 hours from home next weekend, and staying the night with some friends. I'm planning to eat before the ceremony, and have some nuts or avocado handy during, but I'm not sure what to do about packing food for the next day. We're staying in an Air BnB and planning on probably eating out the next day, but not until lunch time since everyone else will be hungover (I'm the DD. They took advantage of my Whole30 REAL QUICK). I don't know what to bring for breakfast that can safely sit in my car for 10+hours (driving, ceremony, reception, driving again) and be eaten for breakfast. I got a cooler but I'm a little concerned it won't keep eggs or tuna cold enough, and I don't want to spend the weekend living on Larabars. I don't want to eat Larabars/RX Bars at all actually, since I have serious sugar addiction and I don't want my "sugar dragon" to think I'm feeding it. Any ideas? Thanks!
  7. I will be flying to a memorial service next week and I'm just finishing my Whole30, starting reintroduction. Has anyone tried those ice packs that you use for a sprained ankle as a coolant for a meal? The last time we flew through Texas we got stuck for long hours at the airport in Dallas. Just planning ahead and want to take real food with me, not bars or jerky. I figure the "ice packs" aren't really liquid until you activate them by hitting them on something to start the chemical reaction. I don't know if they would be too cold or how long they would last. I'm planning to pack a salad, dressing, HB eggs, veggie sticks and fruit. Any other ideas?
  8. Hi everyone! My name is Chelsea. My husband, Daron, and I are doing Whole30 for the first time! We are currently on day 9, and hanging in there so far (though I will admit that grocery shopping and walking past all of the gluten and sugars was really difficult a couple days ago!). Before we started the Whole30, I planned an anniversary get away to Niagara Falls over a long weekend. Now we will be traveling on days 19-22. I have read through the travel advice in the Whole30 books, and found some good blogs. I also read through the travel forum here, and found some good suggestions. However, we are staying at a hotel that does not have a kitchenette (no microwave, cook-top, etc.). I am thinking about calling and requesting a small fridge if that's possible (to store at least some dressings, fruits, and veg), but I don't know if it will be. In other words, I think we are going to have to eat out for almost every meal while we are traveling. In what I read, the suggestions were to Google and call restaurants ahead of time to do as much research as possible, but everyone here seems so helpful I wanted to reach out to see what tried-and-true suggestions you all have. Even better, if any of you have been to Niagara Falls and have suggestions, we would be honored to try them! If I'm being honest, I am nervous about this trip. We are very committed to seeing this 30 days through, and I really want to try our best to stay as compliant as possible while we are traveling.
