    R1/D13 Acne Help?

Hello all! First and foremost I hope that you are all having a lovely week so far. :) I am a 25 year old male. I recently started the Whole30 program in pursuit of getting rid of my cystic acne that's located primarily on my forehead, temples and back. Also, small blemishes on my chin area that are constant but not cystic in nature most times. A little bit of a backstory here - I took Antibiotics (Bactrim DS) for acne for about FOUR years.. which is, 4 years too long imo but I was younger and didn't care about the consequences mainly because I didn't KNOW about the consequences - I just recently got off the antibiotics around October of last year. Needless to say, my digestion was not doing so good for a grip there. Either constipated or having BAD diarrhea. Which leads me here; because I am trying to RESOLVE the acne issue (which I believe stems from my gut issues) I want to take a natural approach to this. So far, I'm having pretty great success with my digestion becoming normal and on a cycle again which I believe is a great step in the right direction but my skin doesn't seem to be changing much quite yet :/ I suppose my question is one of experiencing - has anyone set out to do a Whole 30 for their skin health as the primary focus? If so, what was your experience? I know we will all be different but I need a little encouragement. Thank you all so much in advance!
  2. So I typically eat healthy and limit sugar in general so adjusting to this plan was pretty easy. However, I have yet to see the benefits. Im not looking to loose weight, but was hoping that an elimination diet would get my gut under control and my put my digestion in check. However, I broke out in acne - which I never ever get - about a week ago, and my gas is ridiculous! I referred to my blood type diet and saw that I should not be eating beef, which is mainly what I was eating the first 3 weeks. The elimination of chicken and beef have seemed to help more than anything else. I also eased up on the potatoes as I felt like they were just making me fat. Also having trouble understanding why additives are approved like dipotassium phosphate in Nut Pods? Seems odd for the program to allow this, and not allow other whole food substances. When stuff doesn't make sense to me it's really hard to see the point.
  3. I’ve been struggling with cystic acne and was hoping that Whole30 could help. I started Whole 30 right after my last period and haven’t had any breakouts until the very end of my Whole30 when my period came back. This tells me that my acne is mostly hormonal considering I haven’t even started reintroducing foods yet. So my question is if there’s a compliant food that I’ve been eating that might be contributing to my hormonal acne? Does anyone have suggestions for dealing with hormonal acne and diet? I’ve literally tried everything and was really hopeful that by changing my diet it would help with my cystic breakouts.
  4. Hi all! I'm a 36 y/o breadwinning mom with a demanding dream job and beautiful little family. I'm overweight (5'6", 210 lbs) and have PCOS. We're thinking about having #2 but before making the dive I've been working on prioritizing "self-care", stress reduction and generally achieving a better sense of balance (i.e., making time for friends, hobbies, hubby, exercise, etc in addition to work & mommying). Part of the self-care has been making the time to deal with annoying health issues I've been ignoring for a long time. I've been going to the dermatologist to deal with persistent acne for over a year now with no noticeable results. In the last meeting, my derm suggested starting Accutane which I've been apprehensive about. I went to my primary yesterday evening to discuss and after reviewing my family history of insulin resistance (long line of diabetics on my dad's side), my primary recommended me trying the whole 30. I started this morning. So far, so good! Wish me luck!!
