  1. Hi! Starting reintroduce on Tuesday! I have never done reintroduce before, and I'm a little confused about the added sugar part. The reintroduction part on the Whole30 website says to add one thing back for a day while keeping the rest of your diet whole30, then go back to Whole30 for 2 days, fine. My question though is what about things like dairy and gluten. I saw a whole30er I follow on instagram use Noosa yogurt for dairy reintro, which for SURE has added sugar. Is it okay to have legumes/gf grains/dairy/gluten with added sugar? I've been unsure about how to reintroduce these things because most of them have added sugar. I was thinking of getting my beloved soy latte at starbucks for legumes but I know that the soy at starbucks has sugar. Any advice would be appreciated. :-)
  2. Just started my FastTrack reintroduction yesterday with non-gluten grains (decided to start with those, since I've had issues with dairy and soy in the past). So after trying them out for a day and not noticing any reaction, after I take my two day break, do I need to stay away from them for the rest of the reintroduction phase? Also, when can I start introducing meats with small amounts of added sugar? What about my favorite stevia/erythritol blend? Do I bring those back in after reintroduction? I am actually leaving on a 2 week trip to see my family (18 hour drive) on day 16 of "reintroduction" so I'm hoping to not have to be too picky when we're traveling. We went camping on Days 22-25 of my Whole30 and it was rather stressful prepping 4 days worth of food for the coolers. ;P

    Sugar sugar everywhere

    Boy the authors are so right about needing to read ALL LABELS. I have found added sugar in places I would never have dreamed would have it: dill pickles and sauerkraut (both Claussens brand), lemon pepper seasoning, not to mention places where's there's no earthly need for it like tomato sauce. The sugar industry really has it's claws in us. I once saw a chart showing sugar consumption in the US. It was basically a low flat line for a hundred years and then in 1941 it suddenly shot up to the top of the chart. Not sure what happened at that time but it was definitely a turning point.

    Preserved Lemons w/Sugar

    I never add sugar to my own foods, and am trying to figure out a way to eat out without being too demanding. I've searched this a couple of times and I am pretty sure it is not posted anywhere. I'm going to a burger joint later (I'm getting a lamb burger, no bun, which comes with a Rosemary Aioli). I inquired about the aioli, and they said it was Sir Kensington's mayonnaise (sunflower oil, not the best but reluctantly compliant when eating out), as well as rosemary--the third ingredient was, as the chef said, "lemons which they preserve themselves with a bit of chili, sugar, salt, and rosemary." I can't figure out whether this violates the added sugar rule or not, as I believe the sugar draws out the juice rather than itself being added to the lemon, but I am not completely sure how it works. It seems like everything else in the recipe is compliant though (unless chili powder isn't compliant).
  5. I am on day 21 of my Whole30, but I am really not counting. From day 1 I planned on this being a change in my lifestyle, not just a 30 day trial. Because of this mentality, I have told myself to stay calm and do the best you can. I only had a couple of slip ups, that came with drastic consequences (I'll post about my mood swings separately), but mostly I am feeling great and I have lost almost all my joint pain so there is no stopping me now. There is something that has been bothering me. I have given up my kryptonite of cheese in all formats, and the least healthiest thing I eat right now is nuts. I know nuts are allowed in limited quantities, and I follow that rule. It's the labels on nuts that bug me. Has anyone found nuts that don't have sugar in the nutritional label? There is no sugar in the ingredient list so does that mean there is no added sugar? Do almonds naturally contain sugar? (pic of almond bag below) Information below found on Harvard Nutrition website: By law, The Nutrition Facts Label must list the grams of sugar in each product. But some foods naturally contain sugar, while others get theirs from added sweeteners, and food labeling laws don't require companies to differentiate how much sugar is added sugar. That's why you'll need to scan the ingredients list of a food or drink to find the added sugar.
