  4. Hi guys! I'm on day 9 now, but on Saturday I was on day 7 and very close to blowing it!!!! ... My family and I went a friend's gathering... beautiful day, catching up with old friends, kids having a blast. On the way there, I announce to my husband that I'm sticking to Whole30.. I'm going to be able to make it through this one social event! Huge spread of munchies.. some good, some bad... when I did find myself near the table I chomped on fresh carrots and celery. Seltzer water in a wine glass. All is good. Then the grill fired up and out came some ribs, and hot dogs and chicken wings. So no go on the ribs... I could only imagine the sugar on those puppies, and then I saw the brand of hot dogs, also... no go! So the chicken (wings, breasts, drumsticks...)... they looked they were just garnished with some seasoning. Great!... right?... WRONG! ... So I put two chicken breasts on my plate, go to fill up my water-in-a-wine glass, and it hit me. WOW... this Whole30 is no joke. I had read so much on previous forum posts about trusting you friends and the food they make, and gambling with ingredients... going back to day 1 for one lousy mistake would be devastating! I asked my friend... 'What did you put on the grilled chicken? It is so good!' ... Answer: soaked in marinade. That was too close for comfort. I was able to transfer them to my kid's plate. And that was the end of that. Came home and made a lovely Whole30 compliant dinner. Ohhhh yeah!!! Day 9 and going strong! TCT2015
  5. Hey everyone! I'm looking for some inspiration for this weekend. We are driving from Atlanta to Nashville to visit my brother and sister in law for a family BBQ at their place to find out whether the baby they are having in October is a boy or girl! ( they're doing that whole- cut into the cupcake/cake and see what color it is- thing that is all the rage these days. Obvs I won't be eating the cake!) They are very considerate of my Whole 30 plan and are planning on burgers and sausages on the grill with a couple of salads and chips/cookies for the kids. I'm bringing some compliment sausages for me to be sure, and maybe a few other safe items to have since we are staying the night, but wondering if any of you have a favorite salads or side dish that travel easy that I could offer to bring to the party as well! Hope everyone is having a great day wherever you are in this journey. I'm on Day 19 of my first Whole 30. I've learned a lot about myself and am still waiting for significant results but am really recognizing the great things about this way of eating and am really grateful to be this far along!
  6. Dickey's BBQ

Here are the allergy information charts for the restaurant: The turkey, chicken breast, and baked potato look clean, but I want to finish strong (on day 19 here). Any thoughts?
  7. I love summer bbqs and I made both of these for the 4th of July dinner we had. They were both very good! I omitted the rutabaga because I didn't have any. I peeled and boiled my sweets instead of their method because I was still searching for a recipe. For breakfast this morning I fried some of the leftover potato salad and then served it on top of a few fried eggs OMG! It was divine!
  8. I went to a dinner tonight and the only protein being served was BBQ ribs. I'm sure the BBQ sauce was not compliant. I had 3 and scraped off as much xtra sauce as I could. Do I need to re-start?
  9. Hello All: Any ideas about alternatives to ketchup or BBQ sauce that is compliant with Whole30? My husband eats a lot of eggs, however, he also eats tons of ketchup or BBQ sauce with them. Any suggestions of alternatives without sugar or artificial sweeteners. I suggested salsa, but he didn't go for that. Thanks. MV
  10. Today is My Day 1

Hi everyone. Today is day 1 for me. I've been eating mostly in a W30 fashion for the last year and a half except that I cooked with butter, had the occasional half spoonful of ice cream, bowl of miso soup or glass of wine. I had a soft start yesterday and was pleased with kombucha so am optimistic. I also plan to make some kefir with coconut milk and water grains. I think there will be two main challenges: wine and dining out. For wine, I think kombucha and other types of teas (plus the kefir, if I'm successful) will be able to fill the void (at least for 30 days). As to dining out, today at lunch I opted not to go for sushi for fear of miso soup. What do others do when they go out for sushi? Green tea and sashimi? Or is the best option when dining out mussels, or a bunless burger over greens? What about bbq? Too much sugar? Thank you. Homer
