  1. This is only day two, and technically day one again (due to 5 oz of wine that snuck in last night). In the past I've had issues with eating, if something doesn't taste good... I won't eat it. Leftovers are hard for me. Also, I work a demanding schedule that only allows for 2 real meals a day (unless I eat right before bed). I was so excited to start, and the recipes looked delicious, but now... they are bland. Im frustrated thinking I will not eat anything "good" for another 30 days. I know this is mainly sugar. However, how do I deal? Yesterday my total consumption was 2 boiled eggs, black coffee, some carrot sticks, 1/2 serving of sweet potato soup, a few bites of balsamic roasted sweet potato and Brussels sprouts, and an apple. Today I have a raging headache and am very irritable. Help.
  2. Hi there, I am on day two of my whole 30 and my stomach has felt empty all day and all day yesterday. I'm eating a lot and making sure I'm getting fat in every meal. I don't even necessarily feel hungry - just this awful annoying empty feeling. Is this normal? Will it go away? Is there anything I can do to make it go away? Any help is appreciated

  4. Day 2 New Member!

I just started Day 1 yesterday and I'm feeling better already. After reading the timeline this morning, a little worried that the 'hangover' is about to creep in. Would love to share stories and feedback with Whole30 beginners- I feel like support is going to be a big part of this process! Back to my bacon | tomato quiche. . .
  5. May 29 = Day 1

My mom and I started together yesterday. I messed up and had milk in my coffee first thing!! But I've been good since. I've already realized that eating out is hard -- I had to google what is okay to eat at Chipotle (where I often get a quick, relatively healthy lunch and it lasts me 2-3 lunches) and found that I can basically only have lettuce and carnitas! (All the other meats are cooked in soybean oil.) I'm noticing the Day 2 "hangover" feeling noted in the "Whole30 Timeline." I'm sluggish/tired and hungry even though I'm eating regular quantities. I already eat pretty healthily (no fast food unless you count Chipotle, no sugary beverage habit, lots of veggie/protein-based meals, but I also regularly eat cheese and crackers, quinoa, rice, legumes, and other things that are restricted... I also have about 1 drink/day, usually wine, and sometimes more on the weekends. I'm honestly surprised how much a day and a half of these changes is affecting me. (Though we did go to a wedding the day before Day 1...maybe that has something to do with it!) My mom is not feeling the hangover effect on Day 2 -- she had already been following a no-added-sugar/limited processed carbs diet for about 5 months (intended to rebalance hormones and contribute to overall health). For her, the Whole30 additionally cuts out quinoa, brown rice, legumes, limits nuts, etc. (She already doesn't drink and never has.) It's stressing her out a bit how limited her options are now, especially because she is also trying to identify the source of a rash that has been traveling across her arms and back, and she is currently testing out nixing eggs... Anyways, I'm glad I have a partner in this. I'm dreading the "I want to kill everything" and "I want a nap" phases because, if they comes when the timeline says, they'll be right smack in the middle of my busiest time at work this weekend. But, there's never a "perfect" time to make a change, so I'm going for it now while I have a partner in it.
  6. The Whole30 has to work!

I'll try to make this the short version. LOL I have been sick for the past 5 weeks. At first I thought it was the stomach flu, and maybe part of it was, but I never recovered. After many family physician appointments and ultrasound of my gallbladder and meds that didn't work (WHY do they give you meds when they don't know what it wrong??) I decided they were not helping me, so I called a Gastroenterologist, got in that day and explained that at that point I had dropped 14 lbs, I couldn't eat, I felt nauseated all the time, my stomach hurt terribly to touch, headaches, dizzy spells, EXTREME exhaustion, low BP and no one being able to tell me what was wrong, he said he thought I had an ulcer and scheduled an upper endoscopy. The results came back that I did in fact have a small ulcer, a sliding hiatal hernia, erythema and some polyps in my stomach which they biopsied. They came back fine. I was getting sicker, missing work and feeling terrible. He then sent me for an Xray, then a CT scan, then a HIDA scan....all results were normal. By this time I have now dropped 25 lbs. I have never been more frustrated. While laying on my couch over the past 4 weeks I saw Dr Oz show with Suzanne Sommers and she was talking about food, mold, sugar etc being toxic, and what it does to your health. I don't know if they mentioned the Whole30 or where I saw it but I thought, I got to read this book. I bought the audio version and listened to the whole book in 2 days. I was fascinated. I called my sister and told her this book, this lifestyle is for us!!! Her and I both could relate to the I have lost and gained the same 50 lbs over and over. I would say I am still about 80 lbs overweight. But like the book says, this isn't just about weight for me, I cannot continue to be sick, I need to heal my body from the inside out! So, I started immediately, I thought heck I cant really eat anyway, I wont be missing any junk. I had hard boiled eggs and fruit for the first day- just making sure I could eat and not get sick. I went to the grocery today and filled my kitchen with fruits, veggies, Laura's lean meats, wild caught cod, avocados, coconut oil and water, spices that didn't contain sugar.... and couldn't wait to get home and start preparing. I will have to say I have never had a better meal! AND get this, I could eat it and didn't get sick afterward. That is HUGE. I am in, fully fledged, 100%, signed in blood. lol Thank you! Thank you, for writing "It starts with Food". I already know it has changed my life. day 2
  7. Hello Whole30 community! I am very pumped and nervous for what is ahead, but so far I have made it through day 1 and day 2 with very few problems, adn by problems I mean huge cravings for gluten free lemon bars at our local gluten free good But I did not give into temptation and therefore am still continuing on with Whole30. I have been having a slight headache, but I have also had four tests this week and not enough sleep so that could be part of it. But other than that I feel really good. I can't wait for the results and hard work to really kick in. I usually am running and also working out but I hurt my back two weeks ago and have not been able to do really any exercise, but it has gotten a lot better so tomorrow I am hoping to run to miles and I hope that it makes me feel even better, especially since I haven't been feeling very happy and confident since I haven't been able to run. Running makes me happy. But anyway, I bought some groceries, and tried some really good recipes so far for dinner. Blueberry chicken meatballs and this really good chicken leg recipe so far for dinner. I made a lot so I have leftovers to hold me over for a couple of days. This Saturday I plan on making this sweet potato chili (no beans!!!!) for dinner, and it says it makes 10 servings so I hoping that it lasts me throughout most of the week next week. Plus chili is always better as leftovers. I'm excited for what day 3 has in store for me, especially since I am going out to eat with my grandma and then going to see a movie afterwards, but I can do this! Good luck to everyone else out there! I know you can do it!
  8. Day 2 - My First Whole30

Today is Day 2 of my first Whole30. Although I am very excited to start this journey, I felt a little overwhelmed with the planning and preparing aspect. The thoughts that ran through my head: "Am I buying too much food? Not enough?" "Am I going to be able to do this?" "Can I really go 30 days without alcohol?!" I feel anxious, which is normal for me when it comes to a change in routine. I am keeping a very open mind while making an effort to turn these apprehensive feelings into feelings of enthusiasm as I look forward to the positive changes to come. Right now I am feeling a little bloated, lightheaded, and I have a headache. I almost feel a little delirious as well. The silver lining is that I don't have a bad stomach ache! (I struggle with stomach issues on a regular basis.) This is what I have eaten so far today (it is about 3pm my time). It is hard for me to eat a lot at once as I typically graze throughout the day. As I want to eventually work towards eating 3 square meals a day, as the Whole30 program suggests, right now I am spreading out my meals a bit. I'm eating the amount of food suggested, just not all at one sitting. Water, Black Coffee Pre-made "Egg Muffin" made with egg, onion, bell pepper, turkey bacon, salt, pepper (about the size of 2 regular-sized muffins 1 banana 1 handful carrots Boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 1.5), bell peppers, onions (cooked with olive oil, salt, and pepper) Please let me know if you have any tips, helpful hints, or suggestions! Thanks, Lindsey
  9. I need a buddy! - Day2

I'm in search of a buddy to do Whole30 with. I find that I am much more accountable when I'm sharing with someone. I'm the only one in my house doing Whole30, and I am on Day2 today. I like to share on Instagram, so that might be a way for us to communicate. Thank you!! Janna
