Hi all! I am starting the Whole30 on Monday. Sunday I will be grocery shopping, meal planning, and cooking for the week ahead. I am REALLY excited about this program because I know people who have had wonderful results! However, I live alone as a single woman. (Well, "alone," considering I have a dog, two cats, and three birds, but none of them want to do the Whole30 with me.) I've always struggled with buying food and not knowing how to store it so that I don't end up throwing some away. Do you all have any tips about how to do the program without wasting food? The fresh veggies and fruits are what scare me the most, haha. I do plan on growing my own tomatoes, sweet peppers, and some herbs this summer, so that will help I think. Any and all tips are much appreciated! Emily
Day 16..half way there. Just had "Sister's Weekend," an annual shopping event that includes being surrounded by donuts, candy, caramel corn, deep fried appetizers, pasta, desserts, etc..etc.., you can imagine. This year was no different but I did not partake at all!! SO PROUD! I had plenty of compliant "travel food" with me taken from the book suggestions. I also reviewed the dining out suggestions and followed them. For 3 days in restaurants for nearly every meal I explained I had dietary restrictions and ordered items specifically prepared and tipped well. It was fabulous. I found waters & waitresses very open and helpful. I was the only one in the group that didn't feel miserable after each meal I do feel like there HAD to be some amount of MSG or something in some of the salads & such at some of the restaurants which wait staff didn't realize (or cop to), but hopefully not all. Last one was breakfast Sunday AM where I was sure "fresh fruit" was not fresh. I could tell it likely came to them frozen in bulk and had to have something added to it. Didn't smell like fruit, look like fruit or taste like fruit so after the first bite I did not eat it. Will gear up for just as much success over Thanksgiving travels. Hey guys I'm starting my Whole 30 journey today. I'm typing this from Sydney Australia, where I plan to stick this out. I've already done 3 months of no alcohol and no sugar so feeling good but looking to feel even better. I've had issues in the past with gluten and just this week had an unexplained case of lethargy and brain fog which i think is triggered by gluten, so really looking forward to giving it the flick. Today I had a pear and almond milk flat white for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and another tuna salad and egg for dinner. I had a huge bowl of fruit salad for dessert..... probably should lay off the fruit a tad but it was delish! Looking forward to hearing about others who are kicking off their Whole 30 today too! Hello all, My name is Cameron and I have been interested in a Paleo lifestyle for quite some time... But I never stumbled across this site until now. I've downloaded the success guide and plan on starting my Whole30 tomorrow. (30-Apr-12). I ALSO plan on starting Crossfit along with it, and doing that about 3-4 times a week while doing some cardio/boxing between that. All-in-all, I will probably be eating about 5 meals a day with 2x the protein recommended in order to keep the muscle I have gained during a previous workout regime. (Carnivores always have the sexy muscles!) Keeping a journal/log here on this thread should help with accountability, so if anyone would like to join me and my wife, she is attempting this also, don't hesitate to reply! Any tips from some other Crossfitters or anyone with knowledge of doing this with an intense exercise program, could you perchance spare some pointers?
