  1. Hi, I have been having major stomach pains after lunch everyday since starting the Whole 30. This is day 4. The only thing I have really changed is using Almond Butter in my morning smoothies instead of peanut butter. I also ate a bit of Spinach, which does upset my stomach sometimes. I usually take Pepto or have a ginger chew, but neither of those seem to be compliant. Any other suggestions or possible causes? Thanks!
  2. Hello all! I did the whole30 all of the month of September, with a couple of days of adding natural sugars and a couple glasses of wine. I've pretty much stayed away from all gluten, dairy, and processed anything. I'm now having some health issues and wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has some advice. About 2 weeks ago I was told, after doing blood work, that my pancreatic levels were elevated. My symptoms are pain during and after eating, bloated, fatigued, painful abdomen above belly button. I had an ultrasound yesterday that checked my gallbladder for stones, and that came back as normal. I'm finding that eating small portions throughout the day is so helpful and really chewing my food, literally 30 times. Anyway, I felt it was important to see if anyone else has had similar issues. Otherwise, I had severe weight loss, over 22 pounds, and I'm already tiny, so I can't lose anymore. I love the idea of eating clean, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!
  3. Hi everyone! I’m just looking for a little advice and any one who may be able to weigh in on what I’m going through! Let me preface this post by letting you know that I’m in my 20’s and I’ve never had any hormonal imbalances or issues with my mental health before in my life. Last year I started using birth control pills and about 6 months in I started feeling awful. I started to experience anxiety and depression, which I’ve never felt in my life. Because this was the only thing that had changed in my life over the last 6 months, I knew it must be the pills. I decided to stop in October and thought I might be in the clear. However, in November my body went nuts. I started experiencing panic attacks every day, very extreme depression, anxiety, constant nausea, shaking, heart palpitations, and rapid weight loss. I found out that some women experience these extreme side effects as their bodies are trying to learn how to work once they’ve stopped taking birth control. I had no idea! It has now been about five months since I stopped taking birth control and I’m definitely better than I was, but not completely healed. I am mostly left with anxiety, days where I just feel “off” or sad, and some mood swings. I see a naturopath and she suggested that I start Whole30. I’ve already done Whole30 twice before and have enjoyed it, but never have seen any difference in how I feel on it. However, this was before I experienced any of these hormonal/mental issues. I’m wondering if anyone out there has every been through anything similar or if anyone has any advice for me and how Whole30 could help me get back to my normal! Any tips on specific foods I should eat or avoid are welcome!
  4. I'm on day 32 of Whole 30. For day 31 the only thing I reintroduced was a glass and a half of red wine. I felt great all night, slept fine but I woke up about 10 hours after my last glass and my stomach hurt and I've had waves of nausea. I'm trying to figure out if this is a reaction or an actual stomach bug. If it is a reaction I'd love some advice as to what is compliant that could ease the symptoms.
  5. My fabulous husband is sharing the Whole 30 experience with me. (Wonderful man!). Yesterday was day 7. He cooked us a marvelous Creamy Bacon Mushroom Chicken Thigh dinner with cauliflower mash and broccoli. All was fine until we went to bed, and a few hours later he was awake with a grumbling, roiling tummy, nausea and a terrible headache. (Mike doesn’t get headaches). He was up briefly this morning for a light breakfast, but since he only got a couple of hours of sleep last night, he’s back in bed. “Carb flu”?
  6. Okay, this is my 4th Whole30 and I've always had an amazing experience (this year I hardly had any trouble with cravings!) but this year has been rough in terms of tummy troubles. Around Day 11 and 12 I started feeling a little nauseated at the end of the day but thought it was just my gut healing again. And then the nausea and stomach cramps have come up on random days ever since with yesterday Day 29 being the absolute worst. Looking at what I've been eating the only thing I can figure is maybe I am sensitive to onions since they are a pretty high FODMAP food? I had an omelette with onions and peppers for breakfast yesterday when I felt so horrible and was burping onions all day. I've just never had problems with FODMAPs before and it's strange to me that it would show up during Whole30. I seem to have had no trouble when eating other high FODMAP foods this month like apples, garlic, cauliflower, etc. but at the same time I'm not sure if it could be something else! I'm just so bummed that I don't feel amazing on day 30. Has anyone else had this sensitivity show itself during Whole30? Do I need to go see someone? Confused. Help!
  7. I’m hoping someone can share their experience with me. I have endless layers of health isssues and have given up on Drs. It started with food intolerances to finding out I had a form of IBD then layered that with sibo and then sibo I couldn’t conquer due to a layer of toxic mold illness. I’ve lived about 90% dairy and gluten free for many years now and just this past year went grain free as best as I could. (I would say a 100% but I’m not perfect). However I’ve also relied on elemental drinks to help kill off sibo and heal my gut. The main ingredient is dextrose. It’s not absorbed by the small intestine so it helps keep you alive while your body kills the sibo. So with that said my body loves dextrose. I feel incredible when I live solely on physician’s elemental diet. So I know I have a sugar addiction even though outside of the ed diet I really only consumed honey or fruit. I did go a little wild this holiday! I will admit. Anyways I struggle with eating and finding what I can eat without getting hives, having my stomach turn into a giant beach ball, or having massive right side pain. So that’s my background. I decided I would just take on whole30 to help my body learn how to handle food but I’m beyond sick. The only other time I felt like this was 14 years ago when I was pregnant and I ended up in the ER on fluids. I had chronic morning sickness. I’M NOT PREGNANT, NOT POSSIBLE! ☺️ A few days ago I couldn’t even get out of bed. I feel like throwing up. I have about 6-8 bowel movements a day. I thought maybe I had the flu but I don’t. A cold has come and gone through our house. I do have some sinus congestion still. Nothing sounds good except oven roasted potatoes or some soup. Is this normal? Or is something wrong with me? I’m worried. But I told myself after thousands of dollars worth of medical bills this last year and Drs who could never help me but keep finding things wrong I was going to try this in my own. Is anyone else this sick on day 10? Is it’s because of all my health issues? I don’t want to give up at all. Looking to see if this is common???
  8. Hello Whole30 World, My name is Samantha and was inspired to join Whole30 by my sister, who starts today. I wanted to start eliminating sugar from my diet right away, so actually started Dec. 29, but ate a bunch of peas which I didn't know were on the list, so officially started December 31st. I'm a migraine sufferer, so am already experiencing headaches. Have had one for 2 days now. Sleeping with cold packs and trying not to take my migraine medication - yet. I'm definitely getting used to the new kind of food, and having to eat regularly, which I have never really done. And the prep that goes into it. Luckily today is a holiday so I can dedicate it to prepping food for the week. I'm definitely feeling some resistance to the "diet" including the regimen, types of food, side effects such as nausea. But I'm committed to get through the next few days. The migraines don't help! But everyone is different and will have different experiences! I'm just sharing mine. Migraines, anxiety and too much sugar are my achilles heel, so that's why I'm here. I wish all of you the best of luck and wish me luck too! Thank you!
  9. Hi, I am on day 10 of the Whole 30. My stomach has been a mess. I feel physically fine but I am constantly nauseous and have the worst heart burn ever. My BMs, which before the Whole 30 were at the same exact time every day twice a day -- now happen maybe every other day. I read that it could be the potatoes I am eating but I exercise for a couple hours a day - I have to have carbs somehow. I also read it could be not having enough fat -- but I have PLENTY of fat. I am so tired of my stomach being 100 times worse than before I started. Any suggestions?! Caroline
  10. I had to have oral surgery yesterday, and I'm on antibiotics. Yesterday I felt Ok (other than my mouth), and I took a codeine that was prescribed by my doctor for the pain at 11:00 pm and went to bed. I woke up around 7 and felt fine, but then started to get dizzy while checking my phone. I took a wobenzym (plant based enzymes for joints). By the time I had roasted a yam and boiled eggs, I was hungry, so I was planning on eating breakfast. But when I was peeling the eggs, I felt so nauseous and dizzy again, I had to sit down. My sister in law, who is an MD, told me that I should eat something with salt and I should feel better. I had called her because I was worried I shouldn't have taken the wobenzym with the antibiotic and codeine from the night before. But she said it should be fine. So I choked down my breakfast of egg, bone broth, and yam. That's all I could get down. ugh. I had a normal lunch (butternut squash soup with extra beef and onions, spinach, and riced cauliflower with 1/2 avocado, lime juice and fresh herbs). But I've been feeling nauseous ALL day. I'm not taking any more pain meds. My mouth isn't that bad. It's practically been 24 hours. I've never reacted to codeine like this in the past. Or the wobenzym. I'm wondering if I'm more sensitive now that I have been eating so clean - I'm on day 13. Has anyone else had this experience? Also, this is the first time since I started the whole30 that I have cravings. I'm craving plain crackers, bread like things because of the nausea. I feel like I'm in my 1st trimester again! Anyway, haven't given in - just been sipping my water steeped in some fresh ginger. It's not working though...

    Help. I feel so poorly.

Hello all I'm at the end of day 5 and am struggling so bad. I'm so tired and achy. My tummy is extremely upset with IBS and I've had constant diarrhoea and nausea. I just can't face food at all and am giving half my meals away. I have Autoimmune problems so not sure if also flaring which is exacerbating things. I realised at first it was probably that I had upped my fruit, especially to quell sugar cravings so I've cut it out. I thought I was winning then tonight it's been so bad again. I have a sneaky suspicion I have an intolerance of eggs. I really don't want to give up and most of the time am ok. Help me please with things to try and protein sources. vicki
  12. I've been playing sports and working out for most of my life (I'm 26 and in pretty good shape). I've always had low blood pressure and my blood sugar fluctuates a lot, but there's nothing actually wrong with me. If I workout in the morning either on an empty stomach or with a snack before I feel fine. But, anytime I workout at night -- easy exercise or hard exercise -- I feel nauseous and weak about 30 minutes afterwards. It doesn't go away unless I go to sleep or eat a simple carb like toast and jelly and a rice krispy. Then I feel better. I've tried eating hard boiled eggs and turkey and guacamole based on Whole30 recommendations and it does not work. Does anyone else have this problem? I've had it for years but doctors never find anything wrong with me. Some days I can't make it to the gym in the morning so this frustrates me. Thanks.
  13. I started Monday, April 17, after "Last Suppers" and "Last bag of chips." Until today, I felt fine, nourished. Today, I have had a round of vomiting, loose poo's and a frontal lobe headache. I can't do my work! How do I break out of this? When the nausea stops, what do I eat? I'm in my 60s, so not pregnant. One other note: I was a mostly-vegetarian, so I'm facing not used to so much meat. I've had pork and chicken in addition to eggs. Help! Helen G.
  14. I know breakfast has been discussed to death on the forum, but I have to ask in a specific context if anyone has any ideas. Pretty much all my adult life I have experienced morning nausea (no I am not pregnant is my mantra). It seems to be tied to dehydration- although I drink around 60oz of water per day which is sufficient for my body weight and I drink water first thing when I wake up, before coffee or anything else. It may be related to medication, can't say for sure and can't really test that. The result is I have no appetite in the morning and food grosses me out. My first whole 30 I did a lot of eggs for breakfast but I got burnt out by week 3 and now I can't even look at eggs. Then I tried doing a template meal- veg, meat, fat- and that sometimes works but most of the time makes me gag or worse and I can't get it down. I know I need to eat in the morning- not just because of the rules but for my body's best health, but I just can't seem to find anything appetizing in that first hour. Has anyone else dealt with morning sickness/ extreme food aversion in the morning? Any thoughts on gentle compliant breakfast ideas without eggs? Thanks in advance.
  15. Hello all! I am on day 11 of my first ever Whole30. Since day 2 I have experienced extreme nausea. I haven't vomited but have definitely had an upset stomach everyday, for most of the day. What I've eaten the past few days are below. Any insight is greatly appreciated as I would like to start feeling good. My water intake is anywhere from 72 to 96 oz. I am pouring myself one cup of black coffee around 8:00 am but have yet to actually finish a cup (usually finish about half). Monday, 5/9 Breakfast (6:30 am): 2 salted hard boiled eggs, 2 sausage (made from ground turkey) patties, 4 cherry tomatoes, 8 grapes Lunch (11:30 am): 2 cups of the chicken primavera from the Whole30 book, (I had two side of veggies too but am totally drawing a blank of what they were) Snack (4:30 pm): RxBar Dinner (6:15 pm): Melissa's Chicken Hash from the Whole30 book - only a few bites because the nausea was pretty strong Note: nausea started around 4:30 pm and continued until about 9:00 pm Yesterday, 5/10 Breakfast (6:30 am): 3 salted hard boiled eggs, 4 cherry tomatoes, 8 grapes Lunch (11:30 am): Strip steak, 1 cup of sweet potatoes, .5 cup broccoli Snack (4:15 pm): Apple and Larabar Dinner (8:00 pm): 10 shrimp, salad - 50/50 spring mix, tomato, diced peppers, half an avocado Note: nausea started a couple hours after lunch and continued into the night around 9 pm it was stomach pain until I went to bed (around 10:00 pm) Today Breakfast (6:30 am): 4 salted hard boiled eggs, 2 cherry tomatoes, 8 grapes Lunch (12:00 pm): Carnitas bowl from Chipotle (carnitas - double meat, guacamole, pico de gallo, romaine lettuce) (this is my first time eating out since beginning Whole30) Note: nausea started around 1:15 pm Any insight is appreciated! Thank you in advance, Christine
  16. I'm on day 8 today! It's going okay, except every morning I feel very hungry as soon as I wake, but when breakfast is ready I have no appetite and feel sick (I try to eat within the hour, toddler permitting). Then I'm hungry again 2 hours later. What's going on? I've been mostly having 3 eggs with ghee and veggies for breakfast.
  17. I completed a Whole30 a few weeks ago and until Sunday I had not reintroduced any forbidden foods, except for occasional small amounts of cane sugar, and at least one serving of non-compliant oil. On Sunday I purposely consumed wheat as my first official reintro. I didn't start the reintroduction until around dinner time, so I ate several servings of wheat at once, in the form of two pieces of bread, a small serving of pasta, and a serving of pot roast cooked in a beer-based sauce. Since that meal, I have returned to Whole30 eating. Sunday evening I noticed a headache but this did not surprise me since I often have tension headaches. However, not only has the headache continued on and off since then, but it has been accompanied by intermittent nausea ranging from mild to quite bad this morning. Interestingly, eating (Whole30 meals) seems to help with the symptoms. I have no history of migraines. Is it possible that there is a connection between the wheat and my intermittent headaches and nausea? If so, is it unsurprising that I would still be experiencing these effects almost three days out?
  18. Hi, I'm on day 7 of my whole30 and feel progressively worse everyday. I started for 2 reasons - 1. I have ulcerative colitus, and am looking for a way to control it though diet and 2. though years of flares, I've become overly reliant on carbs and sugar for energy - time I've spent feeling so unwell that the only thing that appeals is jelly on toast, and I think that's had a psychological effect on my 'need' for carbs and sugar. (Worth noting, though, that I was no flaring when I started). But I just feel awful and so frustrated. I'm training for a marathon, and I suck at running since I started. I feel constantly light headed and sick, and because nothing else appeals I'm eating too many nuts and dried fruit (I know, I know - tell me how to stop). My stomach feels almost as bad as when I'm having a UC flare, and I look about 5 months pregnant. Plus, I live in Greece i.e. carb and legume heaven. It is *so* hard to find complient food here - and I cannot get my hands on a sweet potato no matter how hard I look. (On the plus side, incredible olive oil!!) I'm searching for some tips, some encouragement, reasssurance that I'll feel better soon, because I am so close to just throwing in the towel, eating some jam and bread and actually being able to enjoy my long run today... Thanks all.
  19. I am on day 3 of my first Whole30...I am really struggling with feeling nauseated since day 1. Day 1 I also already got "the headache" but that luckily has not reappeared. I know I can't take Pepto or tums because of the added sugar, I hate ginger flavor, and peppermint tea doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Does anyone have any suggestions of stomach soothers that I could try that are compliant? Day one and day two were pretty much constant with nausea...Today I actually felt ok until I ate lunch...then literally about 5 minutes later I was lightheaded and thought I was going to toss my non-existent cookies. Here is a look at my meals the last few days. I am really working on ramping up breakfast (I know I need more protein there) However, prior to this my "breakfast" consisted of a glass of juice or almond milk. I still have a hard time eating "food" before about 10 am, but I am forcing it to happen. Actually right now I feel like I am having to force myself to eat most of the time as even thinking about food can trigger the "ugh" feeling or make it worse. Prior to the entire Whole30 I was probably eating 5-6 small meals a day and I ate whole grains, dairy, and I love hard cider and chocolate. White flour and sugar were already long gone from my house, but coconut sugar, honey, etc were used in place of that. I am drinking water with lemon, unsweetened green tea, and La Croix. Day 1 breakfast: (I was planning on hardboiling eggs the night before, but dropped the entire carton...had to grab some the next day) Banana 2 Dates Very small handful of raw almonds Lunch: 1 cup compliant Turkey Taco Meat 1 cup lettuce leaves 5 mini bell peppers 1/4 sweet potato Dinner: 4 1.5 inch compliant turkey/chicken meatballs with an egg mixed in and cooked in coconut oil 1.5 cups homemade compliant marinara with added bell peppers, carrots, and zucchini Day 2 Breakfast 1 hard boiled egg Banana Very small handful of almonds Lunch: 1 cup of compliant Tuna Salad 1 medium avocado 5 mini bell peppers Small handful baby carrots Dinner: compliant Paleo Beef Stroganoff with olives on top of Zoodles (Hubbs is allergic to mushrooms sadly) Large serving of steamed brussels drizzled with Balsamic and avocado oil Day 3: Breakfast 2 hardboiled eggs Banana Apple 3 mini peppers Lunch: Leftover Stroganoff and zoodles with around 4 brussles tossed in 1/2 cup of compliant Sweet Potato/apple/chicken sausage hash Fresh Pineapple, probably about a cup 10 green olives I honestly don't even want to think about it....but dinner plans tonight are for chicken breasts cut into strips, dipped in egg and a little almond/coconut flour, with roasted sweet potato wedges with a compliant mustard sauce for dipping and some mini peppers on the side. I know I for sure need to up the protein in my breakfasts, but right now I need something that is compliant that might help soothe my stomach. I am miserable at work and it is affecting my performance.... Hellllllp!
  20. I'm on Day 5 and so far, I have not had any of the issues or symptoms mentioned in the calendar log (no headache, diarrhea, irritability, etc.) However, last evening, we had a very late dinner and I developed nausea a little before dinner but was fine after dinner. Today, after my lunch, I have a nausea (seriously, I did not like the chicken in my chicken cobb salad!). Couple of questions:- 1. Can palm-size protein portion come from non-meat items such as spinach/green peas/green beans? The meat is something I am not able to like 3 times a day, 7 days a week! 2. If I have a nauseous feeling and cant eat much, can I take coconut water(for electrolytes) or homeopathic remedies (sugar pills) to alleviate the nausea? Would appreciate some help. --Sarmishta PS: Attaching my food log.

    Severe Menstrual Cramps and Nausea

I finished my first Whole30 two days ago but haven't started reintroducing anything yet. Yesterday, I got my period, and I'm experiencing the worst cramps I've had in a very long time. Not even my previous period was this crampy (when I was on Day 4), but it was late. I'm used to pretty painful periods, but this reminds me of the pain I had in high school where I'd beg my mom to come pick me up from school. I'm also insanely nauseated--to the point where even the thought of food turns my stomach. I've tried to cut starchy vegetables during my Whole30 since I am overweight, but maybe I need to put them back into my diet? I would really, really appreciate any suggestions to curb the cramps and the nausea. Before Whole30, I relied on Aleve/Advil to get me through the first couple days of my period, but I'm really trying to cut back. [Also, I don't have a tub or a heating pad, but I'll probably get the heating pad soon.] Thank you!
  22. Hello all! I'm on Day 18 of my Whole 30. Overall, everything has been pretty tame. I have been going through the motions of the timeline pretty regularly and my withdrawal wasn't so bad. I was 75% paleo before the program (with the exception of my Easter binge before ) Everything was pretty basic UNTIL NOW. I am experiencing EXTREME dizziness, nausea, unquenchable thirst, claminess and light-headedness to the point of almost fainting. Due to my anxiety-that I had previously my whole life- this is triggering my anxiety that I haven't had since I started and I've had to take a Xanax for the first time since my Whole 30. Didn't want to, but this sick thing had me up for hours in fear and paranoia. To top it all off, I'm on my period, day 3 which is typically the worst for me. Cramping and all. I'm 24, not sure if that info helps in regards to hormones. Before this, I was drinking approx 60 oz of water a day. The past 2 days I've drank close to 90-100 oz of water and some tea. My meals for the past few days have been: Day 16 Meal 1: Pistachio crusted Salmon (10oz) 1 1/2 cup of Broccoli Meal 2: 5 ounces Chicken with Almond flour crust (as well as spices) 2-3 baked Sweet potatoes with cinnamon 1 cup of strawberries Meal 3: Baked Salmon (8 oz) 1 1/2 cup Spinach Sunflower Seeds 1/4 Bell pepper 1 Carrot 1 banana Day17 Meal 1: 3 Eggs Scrambled Coconut Milk 1 cup Broccoli Handful of Cashews Meal 2: 1 can of Tuna 1 whole avocado 2 Tbs of jalapeno sauce (whole30 compliant) 3-4 baked sweet potatoes with cinnamon Snack: coconut water (normally never have, but panicked about electrolytes when I got dizzy) Meal 3: 1 can Tuna 1 whole avocado 2 Tbs jalapeno sauce 1/2 cup kimchi 3/4 cup broccoli 1/2 bell pepper 2 carrots Today: Meal 1: 4 eggs scrambled Coconut Milk 1 cup Broccoli 1 Tbs of Jalapeno sauce 1 handful of cashews I know it's not much variety, but the dizziness has me so scared to drive, I go home and avoid the store and end up eating what I have. But I do usually mix it up between fish, poultry, red meat, and eggs. I feel like I'm eating enough of the 3 categories, I usually fill my plate. Perhaps I'm not eating enough salt? I think the sweet potatoes and broccoli show that I don't have carb flu or anything like that so who knows? Please help in any way! I can be quite the hypochondriac and I'm freaking out a little bit! Starting to get the shakes Thank you!!
  23. Started Whole30 yesterday and I think I over did it on the meat. I really don't like meat and don't eat it that often. Each serving was only about my palm size, as recommended. So now it's only day two and I feel absolutely awful! Headache, foggy, tired, bad nausea...I can't eve bear to eat a thing this morning. My normal diet is overall "healthy" and light. I don't think the carb flu would be setting in after only one day so I think it would be related to the meat. How can I continue like this?! Is it ok to cut way back on my meat servings? Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated!

    cramps and nausea - help!

Hey guys, I've started the whole30 3 days ago and my mom spontaneously decided to join me. She is skeptical about the rules but wants to give it a try because she needs to change her eating habits (she is overweight and has knee problems). I know we have both only just started the program and enjoy our meals quite a lot. However, we are already running into troubles: While my mum has been suffering from painful cramps in her calves and toes since yesterday, I was nauseated last night and tonight and got stomach cramps that kept me awake. My mom has never had problems with cramps before and I have never had any stomach conditions either. I also didn't adjust my diet drastically as I've been eating paleo for several months already. I really want to follow through with the program. But I can already see how my mum is starting to doubt the whole thing. She is a doctor and generally doesn't believe in guidelines like no dairy or no legumes... All this is making me very insecure. Should we just push through? Take supplements? Or is the whole30 just not for everyone? It makes me miserable and discouraged to think that I am making my mum feel bad when she trusted me and my research instead of what she learned in medical school... Thanks in advance for your help.
  25. All has been going well, I'm on day 10 and becoming more relaxed about the food template- it has become intuitive very quickly. Yesterday i started with a big breakfast; rushed around a bit more than usual, so when I was in the supermarket I grabbed a 1oz pack of almonds & dried fruit, it looked harmless. Obviously hunger and fatigue had marred my thinking- I bolted them down, only then did I look at the ingredient list- preservative, sunflower oil, sugar. Now it was such a small portion but I ended up with the most horrendous migraine. Migraine always make me hungry, so far I have followed the template, but now I am hungry for protein like chicken dipped in mayo and the thought of veges turns my stomach. What to do? I can feel my blood sugar dropping and migraine returning, usually when it is this bad I eat honey from a spoon. I also feel really depressed and want to weep so am hiding in bed...
