Day 35 Whole30 and itching like crazy (no rash)

Recommended Posts

yesterday i started itching like crazy. i have not changed my diet over that last 34 days. i have eaten all the same foods. i mainly itch on my stomach and low back. it came on all of a sudden. i took benadryl yesterday and it did help.

i have not changed my deoderant, shampoo, body wash or laundry items. everything has remained the same. any ideas?

trying to avoid a trip to the doctor where i have no other symptoms but crazy itching. how long would you wait before you went to the doctor?

i had no known allergies prior to starting whole30 except for an allergy to sulfa products. i have not reintroduced anything into my diet at all.

the only thing i have eaten different is organic dried apricots on monday - they did not contain sulfites.

thanks for any feedback!!!!

have an appointment with a dermatologist on thursday. need some relief. its starting to affect my sleep.

This sounds completely unrelated to food, IMO. If benadryl helps, it was likely an environmental allergy issue. When my allergies are bad, my scalp itches something fierce!

No disrespect, Robin, but I would have to disagree with this...

I think it can most definitely be food related. I would consider a histamine reaction/intolerance. Itching and that kind of rash is a very common with that condition. Hence why the benadryl helped.

A paleo type diet is full of high histamine foods, so that may be something to consider. Personally, when I introduced saurkraut into my diet, I started to break out with red bumps under my eyes that burned and itched. Since I stopped eating it, the rash has not returned.

Foods to consider: Leftover meat, canned fish (salmon, tuna, sardines), vinegar, chocolate, avocado, banana, red wine, chocolate, saurkraut, spinach, tomatoes.

The reason I suggested that it's not food related is that the OP mentioned specifically that she had not added any new foods or increased the amounts of any foods. It's highly unlikely for her to show with this severe a reaction without some prior indication of sensitivity.

Day 11 and I am having the exact same problem. Ironic because the skin on my face hasn't looked this good in about 10 years. And I also did not introduce any new foods or increase the amounts of my foods. The itching and the rash are constant and all over from my neck to my ankles. It has been eight days. Claritin did not help. I went to urgent care the other day and was administered a shot and prescribed an antihistamine cocktail. It isn't helping and I have hardly gotten any sleep for the last four nights because of the discomfort. Please respond with whatever you find out at the dermatologist!
