SarahSt
I was planning to start the W30 on Monday, May 20. Doing my research, grocery shopping, planning -- getting pumped! But looking at the calendar I realize that on day 20, I will leave to go to church camp with our youth group. And this isn't where I can sneak in the kitchen and grab some boiled eggs and smile at the cooks and ask them to please just cook my burger plain -- this is on a college campus and we will be eating in the college cafeteria where they have shut down many of their healthy options for the summer. Last year it was DISGUSTING -- breakfast with bananas and peanut butter was my best bet, but the other meals were your typical SAD: lasagna, spaghetti, mac and cheese. Ick, ick, ick. I don't have access to a refrigerator -- or even ice, I don't think, to refill an ice chest if I brought some food. And if I did bring my food, I wouldn't have time to go get it for lunch -- until about 4 pm. I can probably request a gluten free and dairy free diet, but there is RARELY a fresh vegetable to be found -- all cooked in who-knows-what -- and the meat? Well... it's just abysmal. What do you suggest? Going ahead and starting the W30 and just do the best I can that week? If you have suggestions for portable food, I'm all ears (but I will tell you I can only eat so many eggs in a week!) I would REALLY like to eat healthy that week because the killer schedule usually has me feeling horrible anyway. Any suggestions?
Moderators Tom Denham Posted May 17, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 17, 2013 You could do a Whole20, but I probably wouldn't try to sustain through a week of church camp.
SarahSt
I figured that was going to be my best bet. And then I'll have another 20-ish before we leave for family vacation -- but we are packing food and I will have much more control over the meals there (though it still won't be a "30-without-blemish" I'm sure). But I'm sure 20 pure at a time with a few "doing the best I can" in betweens is better than not at all until I can get a run of 30.
Guest
Just do the best you can with what's there. If you can, try and request gluten/dairy free and see what they come back with. No fresh veggies at all?? Wugh. There has to be some sort of fruit, yes? Maybe with the lasagne there will be that pre mixed bagged salad, hopefully? Ohh wait! Is there a grocery store nearby you could maybe run to and get a few supplies and see if you could store them in the college's cafeteria fridge? What would they do if a child had a severe gluten allergy? They wouldn't make the kid starve? No lol. Make some phone calls and see what you can find out. It's worth a try
