Blended then frozen cantaloupe?

Personally I wouldn't call that paleo-fying...an example of that would be making pancakes with all compliant ingredients. However, it's probably not a great idea if you're trying to get over sugar cravings. Eating fruit regularly can prolong or induce those. Dessert-type foods are generally discouraged. If you don't think you have issues with sugar, and you're not eating more than the recommended fruit serving as 'ice candy,' you're probably fine though. I never bought much frozen fruit before I started my W30. Eventually I had to stop buying the frozen mango and cherries, because I was having some up to twice a day, and I felt out of control. Not everyone has that problem though!

It's perfectly fine Don't eat an entire cantaloupe, though and include it with a meal to avoid the impact of fruit on it's own.

Hahaha I remember seeing on other threads people all up in arms about banana swirl- freezing slices of banana and then blending in the blender.

Is it the blending first then freezing that makes this better than banana swirl, or is banana swirl ok too?

Ha. Maybe the modicum of fat in the bananas that makes it more creamy and therefore ice creamy??

PS: while I like calling it twirl we call it "ice cream" in our house because my kids are just as happy with that as with ice cream. Actually we hardly ever make it to the cream stage because we eat the frozen slices.

The difference is the usage, really. You'll note that I said it's okay if you eat it with a meal. Folks who like to indulge in their "banana swirl" don't usually have it with a meal. They eat it when they're having an ice cream craving. They add all kinds of other ingredients to it to make it more ice cream like (cocoa, vanilla, etc). So, if you just wanna eat frozen banana slices - go for it (with the same caveat as the cantaloupe). But don't go swirling them...

In the Philippines, this is a treat... You just blend up cantaloupe and freeze in little plastic tubes. We cal them ice candy. Would this be okay? Or is this paleo-fying?

I don't mean to split hairs here, and I generally see the logic in distinctions made and lines drawn, but this usage to me sounds exactly like the "banana swirl" usage.

In my mind, they both sound like a delicious, hot weather treat--and both seem dangerous to someone trying to work through a sugar dragon and change a sweet treat, dessert-craving brain. As JJB said, even if you didn't have a lot of fruit before it can suddenly seem a lot more of a "treat" (with all the psychological/dopamine issues that raises) when you are following W30.

Judy said she wanted a "cool treat," something besides water. Just want to emphasize for her that there is, W30-wise, a difference between eating the treat as she described, and eating it with a meal, as Robin described.

Judy, I will just say that eating frozen fruit is not going to help you move beyond a sugar snack habit, and may create new habits and cravings (this happened to me with dried fruit/nuts).

Sounds like a great idea for my kids though. I will definitely whip some up for them this summer.
