Holly Go-Paleo
I'm starting my first ever Whole30 tomorrow! A little nervous about the first week - I'm sure my cravings are going to be bad, and I'm anticipating headaches from the sugar withdrawal.... I'll be tracking my progress here and also over on my new blog Holly Go-Paleo.
Holly Go-Paleo
Today was pretty easy; I ate lots of delicious whole foods, generally felt satisfied, and my energy levels were fairly good….until mid afternoon. I intended to eat only 3x main meals as suggested, however by 3.30pm I was hungry and slightly irritable – clearly missing an afternoon coffee/snack/chocolate. Today I ate: Meal 1 – 2x scrambled eggs in coconut oil, piece ham, 1/2 avocado and tomato salsa with olive oil and balsamic drizzle – all layered up on a bed of baby spinach. The meal was yummy and filling although cooking a full meal in the morning means I can't rush out the door quiet so quickly. I found the coconut oil a little too overpowering for the eggs, so must find clarified butter when next at the supermarket. I also had a black coffee (usually drink white) which was surprisingly good Meal 2 – large piece of the Moussaka I cooked last night – eggplant, lamb mince, tomato based sauce and coconut milk. Really satisfying and filling for a few hours – but then I was hungry again – maybe not enough protein? Also had a green tea Snack - small banana, handful of nuts Meal 3 – pan-fried salmon fillet with kale and broccoli Overall today went well, although I think I need to add more protein in my lunch to fill me up so as to avoid afternoon snacking. I'm guessing it will take a few days for the ‘paleo flu' to set in, so maybe I have a few days before I start feeling rubbish?
Holly Go-Paleo
I've not been feeling well (cold) so had no energy today - not feeling great at all for the start of my Whole30! I'm also finding that I'm hungry all the time - even though I feel like I'm eating a lot! If anyone has suggestions for what I am doing wrong with my eating let me know. I've been tracking my food intake over on Holly Go-Paleo. Thanks!
percypat
I always get excited when I see people from Australia (my current home) or NZ (where I grew up) posting! Welcome Remember you can have two servings of fat with each meal, so don't be shy with it. I really notice a big difference in satiety when I include the recommended amounts of fat. I'm not seeing much fat in your meals (lovely blog btw!) so that could help you. Keep it up! Stick to the template and the energy will come
Holly Go-Paleo
Thanks Percypat! Good advice on the fat - I am now a mayo addict! I do confess it is hard to get your head around adding more fat when all these years we have heard the 'fat is bad' message from mainstream media and the health and fitness/diet industry. I'm at the end of Day 7 now and seem to be feeling much more satisfied between meals - not really any bad cravings yet either which is a miracle as i usually have constant sugar cravings! I'm just waiting forthem to appear - otherwise this would be too damn easy.
