Day 8, first real "crisis"

So I've been doing great. No real temptations or cravings. Some sluggishness/fog, but nothing major. Then tonight as we drove to a community band concert, I told my husband, "Ugh. I have the munchies for the first time."

We walked in and sat down in the middle of the hall. About a minute later, I said, "Dear God, WHY does it smell like cookies?!?" I turned around a discovered it was a "refreshments provided" event -- a table full, FULL of chocolate chip cookies, chips, etc. I proceeded to whine a little about how the smell was wafting toward me and torturing me (we were several minutes early). Husband was duly supportive, even though he's not W30ing with me.

The miracle? I made it through the concert and out to the car without gorging on cookies. Crisis averted.

Just had to share. Kind of a big deal for me. :-)

Staying off the scale has been the hardest part of Whole30 for me. I have become compulsive about weighing myself in the past 5 years. I 'hid' my scale under the bed on day one and on day 5 I pulled it out and weighed myself. :( I finally put it on a top shelf in the junkiest corner of our basement and it still calls to me everyday! The worst part is going into other bathrooms and seeing a scale (we even have one at work) I've given in to temptation several times.

@ CRCBN, I totally feel you. I've weighed myself every day for so long (at my most-demented, I weighed myself multiple times a day. sick!). It's hard to stop. My husband, who maintains a fairly stable weight, is convinced that it's a good indicator & weighs himself every morning. Finally, this morning, I told him to move it to the other bathroom.

I'm committing to using my pants & maybe a tape measure as progress-checks. Not the scale!

mkn,

I think I need to apologize to you. My scale obsession post was totally off your topic. I thought I was responding to another post and ended up responding here ( I have no idea where my response to this post ended up!) Sorry to hijack your thread.

My response to you here was supposed to be a big "Congrats!" on resisting the cookies...........I don't know if I would have had that much willpower.

I've been lucky not to get any bad cravings - except once I wanted leafy greens while on the subway to work! Terrible to want something you CAN eat but have no way of getting any until you get home! But anyway, good on you @mkn for the victory!!

@Deborah we went to the movies last week and I brought toasted coconut chips dusted with salt and a little cinnamon -- PERFECT for munching while that popcorn smell is in the air. Yes, it's a snack but in this case justified I think! Also I brought a water bottle from home and made my husband put his diet coke in the drink holder on his other side so I wouldn't "accidentally" take a sip.
