Juice06870
Hi all, I bought 3 lbs of marrow bones at our local farmer's market last Saturday (may 18th). They come from organic, pastured, grass fed cows, but in the winter when the grass is scarce (this is Connecticut) they are given hay and supplemented with organic feed. The bones were actually packaged on May 13th. Today is the 24th and I have not had time all week to make a broth with them and the earliest I might have time will be the 26th or 27th. Will the bones and marrow still be good by that time? I know if it was regular beef, it would be long spoiled by then. They have been in the fridge since I bought them (they were frozen on purchase and I had thawed them out) Thanks.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted May 24, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 24, 2013 I probably would not risk it.
Terresa
My rule of thumb is 5 days after thawing. This is not exactly scientific, as this rule has been passed down from my gran to my mom, and then to me, but this is what I go by.
homerfrizzell
Open the package(s) and smell them when you're ready; if you do not like the smell do not eat them.
