What happened to "I just wanna dance?"  :P I get it, oh so get it though. I hope your experiment will go well and you'll get better understanding of your body and bot an neurosis of any kind. You are a smart girl, you will be careful with scales and such, I know.

We are still laughing with Mom about that day. Brown sticky strings hanging from the ceiling and intoxicating sweet smell. She was crying because she was too short to reach for the ceiling and we didn't have a ladder :D

Any new veggies to try soon? I have "long squash' and have no clue what's that.

I do just wanne dance Nadia, but it would be nice if I could do it with a little less jelly  :P

I think if I can prove to myself that I lose weight (or at least don't put it on) when I follow the template to the letter, I'll have that much more motivation to stay the course and have more faith that this can work for me.

I made baked bitter melon chips the other night!  At first I didn't like them much, but they grew on me.  Not sure what's next ...  I'll see what I turn up at the market on Friday morning :)

Thanks Beets, even if my results aren't perfect, these meds have made a huge improvement in my skin so he's definitely onto something. The dermatologist I had in Sydney focused on one thing, saw me twice and sent me on my way.  This guy talks about giving me a decent quality of life, so I feel like he really wants to help me.  You're right, it's such a good feeling.  I don't cry when I talk about my eczema anymore.

Ha Jen, I'm a relative newcomer to smartphones.  I started on really crappy ones (first one was a Samsung Wave Hello Kitty, because ...  Hello Kitty!) and it was so slow and terrible.  Then I got given a Samsung Young which was way better than the Hello Kitty but still pretty basic.  Then hubs got his Nexus 4 and gave me his old LG which had a beautiful screen but was the most infuriating of all the phones I've had (messed up response to touch screen, bad battery, memory card would dislodge) and he got sick of me whingeing about it so he just went ahead and got me a Nexus as well.  I'm not allowed to complain anymore.  Hopefully I won't break it again  :mellow:

Ok, my Clean July guidelines ...

* 3 meals a day, no snacks.

* Unless pre-planned (ie specific meal planned with hubby, dinner with friends), food to be to template and compliant.

* Meals with non-compliant ingredients still need to look like the template (protein, veggies, fat in appropriate proportions)

* 1 paleo dessert allowed per week.

* Maximum of 1 piece of fruit a day.

* No nuts.

* No wheat.

* Same as Jen: I can have pretty much whatever I want (except nuts and wheat) but it has to be planned into a meal.

I'm banging on about non-compliant meals because there are a couple of things I've promised hubby we'll cook which I don't think will dent my month too much (the main one is a lamb roast which we both adore - the glaze is a reduction of red wine, honey and redcurrant jelly, not too terrible in the grand scheme of things as I can just have the meat with compliant veggies and leave off the potatoes).

I think there's enough manoeuverability (sp?) in there to keep me interested and willing to keep going if I see results from it, but enough structure to stop me from sliding.

Another good day so far, feeling motivated at the moment.  Don't you wish you could bottle it when you get in the zone?

More booch bottling, all berries this time.  Cherry (oh wait, that's not a berry), blueberry, blackberry, raspberry and strawberry.  Oh, and one fig.  Maybe not all berries.  Mostly berries.

Now, completely unrelated:

Who is excited about Le Tour de France being on?  I love watching it so much.  Last year hubster and I finally fulfilled our dream of going to one of the stages.  We didn't make it to a mountain stage though, so got the whole peloton flashing past in a matter of seconds.  Was totally worth it :)

Your plan looks nice and lamb roast description makes me drool. I really like this approach - if you can't make a well rounded meal of it, don't eat it :D

All my fav booch in one place! I am lazy with flavoring lately. Made a batch with apricot white tea (checked no oils) and drinking it plain. I am still sad about losing my Momma scoby to an army of flies.

Sorry if my remark about just dancing came across harsh somehow, didn't mean it at all, my dancing friend  :wub:  :wub:  :wub:

Nadia - Ooh!  Cherry vanilla sounds great.  Blackberry basil didn't turn out but I think it was because I let it go too long.  It turned to vinegar.  I'm so so so sorry for the loss of your mama scoby!

Nadia, it wasn't harsh at all!  A very appropriate reminder :)  I'm sad for your mama scoby too.  Also paranoid that it will happen to me.  Did the flies get in even with the cloth over the top?  Marauding little #$^@s.

Jen, I made a cherry vanilla with glace cherries (soooo not compliant!) and a splash of vanilla extract. Had it yesterday and it was really good.  This time I used tinned black cherries, and I've put some vanilla in one of these bottles too.  I find the vanilla ones don't get as fizzy, I assume it's the alcohol in the extract.  Using a vanilla bean would be better (and more compliant) but they're pretty expensive here in Perth and I'm not on a Whole 30 so I do it the cheapo way :)

Well, experiment is working: I'm down 600g (over a lb) since Monday, and have dropped a bit each day.  Eating 100% compliant with NO SNACKS totally works.  Am on the pill and don't get big weight fluctuations related to monthly cycle.  I haven't really eaten any starchy carbs or fruit this week which will be helping, and at the moment I feel good.  Energy levels are fine, Zumba was fine on Tuesday.  Will see how it goes tonight.

Zumba was fine last night, so at this stage at least, I'm not suffering from dropping the starchy carbs.  But I'll add them back in if I do start feeling sluggish.

I slept in this morning - stayed up late watching the Tour, cold outside, too warm and snuggly in bed - and didn't get to the market til heaps later.  BIG mistake: no parking, lines of cars.  I flagged it and came home.  I guess I'll have to get up early tomorrow instead.  I'm so cross.  I love my weekly market shop now.  My diminished veggie supply mocks me when I open the fridge.

I feel like my energy levels drop or I'm getting grumpy or something, I'll definitely add them back in Jen!  Nothing to worry about there :)

I already posted about my supermarket victory in the Clean July thread (in a nutshell: left without date rolls and dark chocolate, yay!).  Meals have been pretty good today, I did sprinkle a bit of parmesan cheese on my omelette but I'm ok with it: it was part of a meal.  Finished dinner with a little bowl of raspberries and some coconut milk so that will count as my dessert for this week.  When I ok'ed myself one paleo dessert per week I had been thinking more along the lines of a mug cake or something but I totally ate the raspberries as dessert so I'll just call it like it was.

Making that roast lamb for dinner tomorrow night and will be having brunch with friends on Sunday morning.  Looks like we'll be going for yum cha so I'll do my best to make a well-rounded meal out of it and I won't freak out too much about the soy sauce :)

Pfft, well rounded meal at yum cha my foot.  I didn't see a single plate of vegetables come around.  All dumplings and buns and whatnot.  It was delicious though, so I just enjoyed it.

Back on track with dinner: leftover roast lamb. broccoli and a small bowl of strawberries.  Drinking my cocoa made with coconut milk now.

Am going to be up very late tonight as writing up my research proposal has been a mega struggle.  I don't really understand why as I have everything I need right in front of me.  The writing is just not flowing.  I really want to get a draft to my supervisor by tomorrow morning though so hopefully panic mode will set in soon and I'll stop getting stuck on stupid decisions about structure and just write.  I'm looking forward to sending it off and going back to reading tomorrow!

It's really difficult to eat Chinese food because of all the flour and sauces. I'm glad you enjoyed and can move right along back onto template.

Really sorry the writing wasn't flowing. Hopefully you've had a good day of it since writing this morning.

Yes, even the veggies in Chinese food restaurants tend to have something saucy on them, unless you can ask for them steamed.  Glad it went well though!  And it's great that it didn't trigger cravings!

I too hope the writing went well.  When will you hear if it's been accepted, if I may be nosy?

Good job getting back on track after the Chinese restaurant.  Sounds delicious.  I hope the writing is flowing!  I forgot about the cherries when I flavored my booch!  I did raspberry again.  I'll try cherry next.  I should have a new batch to flavor next weekend.  Cherry vanilla sounds so good!

Aw, thanks lovely ladies, I think you all must have sent me some good vibes because I smashed it out today.  I have a horrible writing process.  I will sit at my computer and think about writing for days, writing a bit then deleting it because it's utter rubbish and if you keep something rubbish for too long you're loathe to delete it because then your word count goes down.  Then suddenly, at the last minute, the flood gates open and I write like a demon.  I guess I perform better under pressure but I hate doing it that way.  I don't leave myself time to revise.  I could produce much much better work if I gave myself time to revise.

Anyway, it has been sent to my supervisor and tomorrow I'll get back to reading.  I'm seeing her on Wednesday so I expect I'll be making corrections again soon!  Terresa, it has to be in next Tuesday and I think it usually takes 2-3 weeks to hear if it's been accepted.  Fingers crossed I get lucky first time!  It will be so good to get past this first hurdle!

Tomorrow I'll finally be able to bottle my green and white booch batches.  Meant to do it Sunday but was still plugging away at the proposal so no time.

Ok, it's bedtime for me!  My brain is fried!

Ehmm writing is not something you'd expect to happen any other way, no? Sentences are not squats that you just do :D I wish tho sometimes.

Good luck with your meeting, reading and clean eating. Can't wait to read your raves about white tea booch again. What flavors are on the list?

:wub:  Returning some smooches back. P.S. Have you ever roasted radishes? I did yesterday and I can't believe what I've been missing all my life.

Oh Nadia, I know ...  I just don't understand how I can have ALL the information sitting in front of me but can't make the writing happen until the last minute.  Oh well!

I may have gone a bit overboard with the booch.  I have 5 bottles of white tea (2 mango, 1 blackberry, 1 raspberry and 1 strawberry) and 5 of green (1 mango, 1 blueberry, 1 strawberry, 1 cherry juice and 1 raspberry).  The major problem is that I have the big jar of black to bottle tomorrow ...  And I'm not going to have enough bottles.  Got a bit overexcited I'm afraid.  Might push it back a couple of days!

I've started a new batch of white/green blend and will have to put some more SCOBYs to rest.  Wish I knew people here who I could give them to!  Does anyone want to come and visit me in Perth?  Free SCOBYs to good homes!

Also, made lotus root chips!  YUM!  Did three batches, all had olive oil and pink salt and then some flavouring: garlic powder/cumin, garlic powder/paprika (fave) and just cayenne pepper.
