skyhunter
Yakami Farms Unfiltered Ponzu: aged rice wine vinegar, mirin, yozu juice, yuzu zest, bonito and kombu. It's good for salad dressing and over cauliflower rice, so I'm hoping... Lynne
missmary
I would not based on Mirin as an ingredient (all alcohol is out). Coconut aminos are nothing like this, but might give you a little of the umami you desire. I could imagine making a nice dressing with fresh citrus juice, coconut aminos, vinegar, maybe even a splash of fish sauce? (red boat makes one with no sugar) If you come up with something tasty, please share.
Susan W
I agree with MM. You could totally create it with approved ingredients. I was going to say steep it with Kombu and citrus peels, but I think fish sauce satisfies the need for kombu. Fun project.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 2, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 2, 2013 Mirin is a kind of rice wine similar to sake according to Wikipedia. That means anything with mirin is not okay during a Whole30. It doesn't matter that the alcohol content of mirin is low. The Whole30 guideline is no alcohol, not "just a little." skyhunter
Doh! I forgot Mirin was wine. I should have looked it up. Thanks for remining me! I will wait, and do as Missmary says and manufacture something similar if I need that taste.
