LindaLee
While browsing through some topics on here, I happened upon some posts about iodized sea salt and how much of it has dextrose in it. I came home tonight with a nagging feeling in my stomach and sure enough - both my iodized sea salt and my regular sea salt has dextrose in it. I'm not only annoyed, I'm depressed. I'm on Day 10, and while I'm not a big salter of my food, I do use it in my recipes. What do I do? Start over?? This is just about enough to send me to ice cream for today... :(
Susan W
No need for ice cream. Buy yourself a box of Kosher salt and move on.
LindaLee
Do I need to worry about no iodine in the salt?
Susan W
You know..I know its been talked about on here but I honestly don't remember the outcome. I am going to do a search and see what I come up with.
LindaLee
I've been doing that too...actually even before I posted my question...let me know what you find, okay?
LindaLee
Actually, I found the thread and you were in it, LOL! It said most of us get our iodine in our food, so we're good in that regard. I assume I don't need to start over for this...I hope not...
Susan W
Lol..I knew it sounded familiar. Did moderator Tom by chance say that it was okay to use iodized salt? Absolutely no restart needed.
Guest
I was searching, too. I could have sworn that I read that Dallas and Melissa will use iodized salt in between Whole30s. We need it, but not a ton. I didn't find what I thought I remembered. Hmmm...
Susan W
Nico something in my flawed memory also had iodized salt being okay even when on W30. Still looking.
Guest
I think it is actually in ISWF. I also saw that Tom said don't use it unless the Hartwig's give a green light.
Susan W
Found a thread. MissMary confirmed the amount is small so it can easily be replaced with foods like eggs, shell fish and sea snax.
Guest
According to a high school charity project I did back when, we need a tablespoon of iodine over the course of our entire lives. So, yeah, not much. Sea Snax...hmmm. Sound more inviting than cold 'kraut. Tom shared this, too: http://www.wholelifeeating.com/2012/05/morton-iodized-salt-whats-in-it/
LindaLee
Okay, panic averted. Found some sea salt in my cabinet that doesn't have any dextrose in it. At least, it doesn't have it listed as such. Will pick up some kosher salt next grocery visit. Next question: where do I find these Sea Snacks and Nori Wraps?
Susan W
My Albertsons carries them in their Asian/Hispanic aisle.
LindaLee
No such luck in my neck of the woods...at least not at Walmart (which is all we have here). I can get them online though.
LindaLee
Wow, a plethora of Nori wraps online...what's your favorite brand?
Susan W
I dont buy them. I just trust I get enough iodine from my normal eating. Not sure it is a brand name but people around here seem to enjoy Sea Snax.
malie
Day 3 here. Just put my (Windsor brand) table salt on the "NO" shelf of my pantry for the rest of the month. Did a Google search and other forums were saying that there is sugar in it (I keep it in a jar so I don't have the original box). I'm going to double-check when I go to the grocery store tomorrow. Good thing I've got Mediterranean sea salt and kosher salt that don't contain any additives!
Beets
I really like the toasted onion Sea Snax. My husband laughs every time I take them out. The package weighs less than an eyelash.
