Tiny island...limited organics

  We live in Guam and our resources are limited.  The only organics we really have access to are VERY limited.  Pretty much carrots, some canned and frozen options, and frozen organic grass fed beef are all we have.  We don't have organic bacon, eggs, etc. We have to compromise and get as healthy as possible, but not really organic.  So, my question is, with our limited resources, what things should we ABSOLUTELY avoid and what things can we let slide.

It is possible to have an amazing whole30 with no organic foods at all. We do the best we can. I would for sure get the organic grass fed beef since it is available. If budget allows other organic things, then the environmental working group's list of "dirty dozen foods" is a good place to start. These are the most contaminated produce this based on their studies for 2013. If your produce isn't organic, washing well can make a huge difference, so do that. Enjoy your whole30!

Regardless of what foods you can get, eating meat, veggies, and a little fruit will make you healthier than eating the processed alternatives.


Here is a link to the dirty dozen and the clean fifteen: http://www.organic.org/articles/showarticle/article-214 - the most and least contaminated fruits and vegetables. Anything you peel is okay because you get rid of pesticide residues that way.


With meat, the Whole9 advice is to choose lean cuts of meat when you are buying conventionally raised meats and then to trim visible fat and drain fat. With grass fed, organic meats, eating the fat is fine, but toxins collect in the fat of conventionally raised meats so it is best to minimize it.
