If I have USW bacon as my protein source, do I need...

...to have more fat than the salad dressing? Do I want a leaner dressing for that salad? Is the fat remaining on the well-cooked bacon plus olive oil and vinegar too much fat for a meal?

That was a 3:00a.m. thought when figuring out what the HECK to take for breakfast on Day 20.

How much bacon are we talking about here?

Personally, I don't typically use bacon as the ONLY protein in a meal, more like a condiment, so, if I were putting a portion of bacon like that on a salad, I might have some additional oil, or make a dressing with a little of the bacon fat (yum).

I'm not sure I could eat enough bacon at one sitting to get to a palms-worth even if I wanted to, so I would be looking for some other protein to go with this, ie: chicken thigh? eggs? flank steak? something like that.

We're talking like 5 strips of USWellness bacon, cooked crispy. Usually I don't make that my only protein source but I got caught short last night. I use EVOO mayo and red wine vinegar with a little EVOO to thin it as the dressing.

Just read the bacon manifesto - if I have 10 strips a week I am living large, so I don't think I am a bacon abuser. I usually DO just use it in a salad and then have other protein or with green beans or something else. Last night I just got caught with no other protein prepared and too tired to cook. So thanks for the comments, and I will use it sparingly and never as my primary source!

Hi Lynne, I also wouldn't worry too much about the fat. As long as you're getting enough as per template it'll vary from meal to meal. I often have avocado in my salad but I still add an olive oil dressing. I reckon meals where i have a lot of fat are only going to even out those where I may not have quite enough.
