asutton
this probably is not the right section for this question, but here it goes. disclaimer: i am not currently on a whole 30, starting my 2nd round in july, first one went great! second, i know butter is not allowed during whole 30. so i was looking around whole foods and i found organic valley pastured butter. it said something like limited release, may through september. now it didnt specically say grass-fed like the kerrygold. which is the better option? what is the difference between pastured and grass fed. i've done a little research but i am still confused. ps - sorry about the lack of caps! Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 21, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 21, 2013 Pastured and grass-fed means the same thing on a farm. I don't know what they mean when used as advertising copy, but my guess is that the Organic Valley and the Kerrigold are both quality products that you might use to make clarified butter. Susan W
I just made ghee with the limited edition Organic Valley butter. It's amazing. I have always made it with Kerrygold but made an exception at the advice from another member. It's almost food with no brakes..it's that good. Chardoenay
Another topic, 14 days on my first Whole 30, doing great! My question, is sunflower butter allowed on the whole 30?
SpinSpin
Yes it is! A yummy way to use it is the Sunshine Sauce in Well Fed! Yum!!
wheresanita
be careful with the Sunbutter brand - the one that is easy to find has sugar added. There is an 'organinc' version that has no sugar added and a couple of other brands that have no sugar...enjoy!!
SpinSpin
I buy the MaraNatha brand--just sunflower seeds and salt. I can get it at WinCo for $4.50 a jar (NV) which is a good price! And I agree with the PP about SunButter brand--I can't find it without sugar, even in heath food sections of various markets

SpinSpin
Very true! I got a food processor for my birthday earlier this month and I am still breaking it in--but that would be a good thing to make with it! Want to make zucchini hummus this weekend with it! If you like the taste of roasted nuts but want it raw... process 3/4 raw sunflower seeds with 1/4 roasted/salted. Roasting the seeds is tricky because it can get mealy. You might need to add a little bit of oil.
