Kamakshi
I have the opposite problem of everyone...I've always been the skinny girl that can eat everything and anything but never gain weight. Yah you might say lucky girl, but the grass is always greener on the other side guys, looking like a skeleton your whole life is not attractive. This year, at age 30, I managed to gain enough weight to feel happy, weighing at 110 lbs....since i'm only 5ft 3' this looked good on me! Then, I decided to do the whole 30 because I believe in being free of the food compulsions associated with sugar etc. and all the science that says this is the best way to eat. Unfortunately though, I am on day 17 of my whole 30 and have lost the 10 lbs I worked so hard to get, so...now i'm looking like a skeleton again and my husband is urging me to get off the program, but I have been feeling the benefits of being free from sugar compulsions etc and I want to be eating the best way possible. Just in case you think it might be stress or over-activity thats making me loose the weight... it's not...I am a stay at home mom and though my kids are active, I still get to nap with them every day and have a pretty easy life living next to a beach,.. and I do feel like I'm eating a lot! I always make sure I have at least two palm fulls of protein at every meal (sometimes more) and try to have as much healthy fats as possible with that, but still.... i am loosing weight. I don't want to stop the whole 30 but I don't want to look like death warmed over... any suggestions?
msssjenna
more fats, more starchy carbs, and no more napping. That might be working against you, actually.
kaiser179
I agree with adding more starchy carbs (sweet potatos, plantains, carrots, squash). I found this article on Paleo Mom's website helpful: http://www.thepaleomom.com/2011/12/how-many-carbs-should-you-eat.html Granted, the point of W30 is not to be counting, but if you are struggling, it might be helpful to just count up a couple of "sample days" to get an idea of where you are at. Then you know how much more carbs to add to gain weight and then to maintain.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 21, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 21, 2013 I remember having your problem back in my teens and 20s. I could eat 5000 calories per day and stay thin. And even during my 30s when I ran marathons seriously. Things changed for me in my late 30s and 40s. You should be able to eat enough in a day to maintain a healthy weight. You sound good already on the protein, so maybe more fat and more starchy carbs.
