conniedraws
My husband is allergic to Coconut. Is there a non-soy alternative to coconut aminos? Or in the Well Fed Stir Fry Sauce and Best Ever Chicken, will it be ok if I just omit it? Thanks Connie
ctriefus
I'm looking for an alternative too, not because of allergy but because getting it in the UK is prohibitively expensive! I've been using fish sauce I got at my local Asian grocery store, made from anchovies and salt. It is not a great alternative being very salty without the depth of flavour of soy sauce (can't speak for coconut aminos since I've never tried it). I've been surprised that the thing I miss the most out of everything I've cut out of my diet is soy sauce! I have always used it a lot in cooking. Colleen Roy
Can we use Braggs? I'm not sure if they are compliant? I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that they were not....
Moderators Tom Denham Posted June 26, 2013 Moderators Share Posted June 26, 2013 No to Bragg's. Bragg's is a variety of soy sauce. You can usually leave coconut aminos out and have the overall recipe still taste pretty good. I found myself out of coconut aminos one day and substituted fish sauce and balsamic vinegar and was happy with the result. I don't have a formula for it. I just splashed some Red Boat fish sauce and some good balsamic vinegar into what I was making and the recipe turned out well.
