Nevadagiraffe
After several days of reading, studying, shopping and preparing, I'm starting my Whole30 today. My goals are to continue the exercise program I started in May, get off the prescription sleeping pills I've needed for awhile and to get through this!!! Most of all, I am going to slay THE SUGAR DRAGON!!! The fridge is stocked and I just ate my first Whole30 breakfast...I made a baked omelet with sausage, mushrooms, spinach and had tomato and avocado on the side. Lots more food than I am used to at this time of day!! But lots of leftovers for another day. I look forward to the support and camaraderie here! calee
Welcome and good luck. I started on May 1st. I was taking 1/4 of an Ambien every night. I think I've taken that 1/4 pill 2x in the last 30 days. May was a bit harder as I started to wean off of them. I feel like I've made great strides with my sleep in these 59 days of ollowing the template. I wish you much sleep success! Nevadagiraffe
Calee - that's exactly what I'm doing....so, you tapered off after your 30 days, or while you were on the 30 days??? I was thinking of taking them until I get through the worst of the cravings and grumpiness (which I understand is coming) and then starting to taper off...I'm also exercising regularly which I haven't done in a long time....thanks! Nevadagiraffe
Even an empty-nest teacher on summer vacation (with all the time and good intentions in the world) can get thrown a curve ball...and on day two no less. I had my meals all planned and then husband got an unexpected chance to go play and be gone for 12 hours....this put a kibosh on the steak from ISWF I was going to rub and grill - he's the "grill master", not me....so, after a "chef salad" at lunch, which was a lot less than wonderful because I put waaaay too much garlic in the dressing (yes, believe me, it IS possible!!) I needed to regroup for dinner (although I did enjoy the Monkey salad I had alongside). I decided on a carrot-raisin salad, knowing I have Paleo Mayo and pineapple in juice...I cut down the quantity of raisins, and put it in the fridge a few minutes ago so the raisins can plump up. Also played with several chicken salad recipes (it's 100+ degrees outside and I won't even consider turning on the oven!!)with apples, a few cranberries, toasted almonds, and an invented dressing of Paleo mayo, coconut milk, Penzey's Balti - essentially fancy curry powder - and lemon juice. I have garden mesclun in the fridge and I'll steam some edible pod peas from the garden and be pretty close to ideal Whole30 standards...and that carrot salad is almost like candy to me....so it will have to serve as my comfort food....fighting a major battle with the sugar dragon today!!! I think this constitutes a good recovery from my earlier temptation to chuck it all and go out for Thai food!! Onward!

I think,I started tapering during the second or third week. I'd have to go back to my log to see. I started exercising hard doing cardio instead of just walking a 5k daily, on day 29 and was pretty exhausted at night. I also stopped taking my iPad to bed and got a kindle fire hd that has a sepia setting for reading books. I think reading in the dark on the kindle made a huge difference. I read a few pages and I'm asleep. Good luck! Your garden sounds fabulous.
