melaina
Today is day 3 and I'm feeling really good. The first couple of days detoxing from Diet Coke were rough but I stuck to it last night and am so proud of myself, cannot remember the last time I went two whole days without diet coke. Up bright and early this morning to cook the breakfast I had prepped last night before heading into work at 5:45am. Chicken apple sausage with red cabbage, mushrooms and onion sauteed in olive oil and boiled eggs on the side. Coffee with coconut milk. I took my weight and measurements on Day 1 and was pretty horrified at the weight (231 lbs) as I have never weighed that much. I had my husband put the scale away and will get it back out on day 30, for now I'm going to focus on how I feel and how my clothes fit. A real blessing is that my husband has committed to doing the whole30 with me and that will make it so much easier for me to stick to the program. Bridget
Great job - off to a really good start. Kudos on the Diet Coke, from a former addict ! Best wishes on your journey
melaina
Hi Bridget, so did you actually kick the habit? My intention is to get the DC monkey off my back for good.
melaina
Day 3 - Despite struggling with my apparent addiction to a frosty silver can of poison (diet coke), the day was fairly smooth. For lunch I had a bison burger topped with grilled onions and mushrooms and some sweet potato fries, washed down with water. Dinner was a giant salad with all the beautiful colors and a side of crock pot apple-ginger pork. A cup of decaf with coconut milk completed a successful day 3. Anyone who says that Paleo means eating meat only has not done their research, I have eaten more veggies in the last three days that I can ever remember eating. The really awesome part for me is that my husband is totally on board, he is right there next to me chopping veggies and prepping salads for the next days lunch. Day 4 - This morning I had to be at work really early so I only had a mug of coffee with coconut milk and a banana. Once I finish this post I am going to get in some tuna and then eat my BAS for lunch. I feel really great today, not hungry, not grouchy, and my rosacea is already clearing up. No purple cheeks for this woman! Gratitude: I am grateful for a loving marriage and new friendships.
melaina
Day 9! I am so thrilled to have made it through the weekend without messing up because there were alot of occasions to do so this weekend. It has been interesting to see what my true addictions are, but not really suprising. Diet coke and bread have been my downfalls and life without them couldn't be sweeter. I slept like a baby this weekend and my blood pressure is wayyyyyyyyy down. The other interesting thing is that I am not hungry, I don't think I realized how much I snacked before and not snacking has me eating whole meals at mealtimes and being full much longer. This has been a great experience and I am looking forward to getting on the scale on Day 31 and seeing what changes I've made in weight. The truth is though that I just feel better, all over my entire body I feel better. That fact makes this process worth any initial withdrawal pains
melaina
Day 12 and feeling wonderful. Weird mystery hip pain is completely gone, I am full of energy instead of yawing all day. My friend and I at work have been taking walks throughout the day that total about 3 miles. Just nice slow walks that are comfortable in the heat that is the Utah desert. Strange dream last night wherein I stuffed mouthfulls of salty pretzles in at a time. I woke up in a panic before realizing it was only a dream, but have been hankering for carbs all day. Sitting down now to a delicious lunch of salad and lamb meatballs in a coconut curry sauce over spaghetti squash from Eating for Idiots website. Love this stuff, this is the 3rd day in a row I've eaten it and sadly it's the last of the batch.
melaina
Day 17 and still going strong. The most amazing thing I have noticed is that I am not hungry and munching all day. My meals actually keep me full for hours and I no longer feel the need to snack. Just eating delicious food, trying to be creative with my cooking, and the bonus is that my husband and kids are eating everything I cook and enjoying it. This is a blessing for my whole family! eronn_actually
Sounds like you're doing great! I'm only on day eight, but I'm noticing the same thing you are, where I feel full between meals, instead of feeling constantly hungry/worrying about what I get to eat next. I can't wait to hear how the rest of your Whole30 goes.
jenna3232
Melina! I too have had to kick the diet coke spell. I mean when I used to drink it, I'd stop and think, "why am I drinking this fuzzy, not so good tasting, black stuff?" Could you provide that crock pot ginger pork recipe? THANKS! I mean when I used to drink it, I'd stop and think, "why am I drinking this fuzzy, not so good tasting, black stuff?" Could you provide that crock pot ginger pork recipe? THANKS! Jenna, I have the recipe at home so I'll grab it tonight and post it. Basically it was a pork loin in the crock pot with chicken broth, a couple of diced apples, spices and 2-3 inches of grated ginger. We ate every last bite over a few days. I am sooo over diet coke and it feels wonderful. I have had that nasty stuff in my system every day for 30 years and truly believe that is the one thing giving up has made me feel so much better. Actually I don't even think starving is the correct word because I was totally eating out of habit/boredom and not hunger. Now I wait until I feel hungry and enjoy the feeling. Keep up the good work on your Whole30! melaina
melaina
Day 32 or technically Day 1 I made it the 30 days to wonderful results. BP 130/90 to 116/64 (Cutting BP medicine in half now) Weight 231 to 223 That's eight pounds folks, and I was never ever hangry. Wonderful feeling full but not stuffed after each meal. Waist, 2 inch reduction. The biggest pro in my book is my mood and sleeping improvements. I have been so calm and sleep like a baby every single night. Before the Whole30 I would lay awake at night even when I was very tired, now I am asleep as soon as we turn the light off. Amazing. The blood pressure reduction is huge because at 42 I really did not like facing a lifetime of blood pressure pills. That have some side effects that I really do not enjoy so I am thrilled to cut them in half and then after a month of tracking BP try cutting them out completely. The one thing I did track throughout the Whole30 was BP because it started falling so rapidly after about 3 days with no diet coke that I didn't want to keep taking the medicine if it got too low. What a successful venture. On day 31 (yesterday) I made an horrific food choice the second I drove away from my house and learned a valuable lesson about not fixing what is broke. I am back on track today on a new Day 1 and pleased to keep on with this lifestyle change. Thank you Dallas and Melissa for your book and this wonderful website where we can all support each other in our quests for good health.
joolie
What great results! I am very interested in your BP drop. My second (and in my mind somewhat unlikely) goal is to get rid of my BP meds. I've been on them for many years (partly hereditary) but other than during my pregnancies I've never been able to stay strong in all four areas that I feel will lower it enough to be off meds. I'm excited to see what happens! Good job on your change in lifestyle!
melaina
Starting my second round of Whole30 today. Very excited with all of the bounty we picked up at the Farmer's Market on Saturday, cooked up some meat yesterday and meal prep for the week is easy. Gratitude journal: So happy that I do not have to go through the diet coke withdrawals this time around, funny thing is that I no longer even miss it. Hope your path is without obstacles today!
