Added sugar in salsa

Recommended Posts

I'm almost done with my whole 30 (currently on Day 30. Feeling great results) I realized a brand of salsa I bought nine days ago has organic sugar listed as it's ninth ingredient (three are 13 ingredients). I usually use 1-2 tablespoons (2 tablespoons are in a serving) a day and the nutrition info lists one gram of sugar per serving (which I think some of that sugar comes naturally from the tomato and tomato paste). At the most I am getting 1g of added sugar a day. Is that enough to stop my metabolism from healing?

I will be sure never to buy that salsa again.

I can't answer the metabolism question (maybe someone else can). Perhaps, at a minimum, you stop eating the salsa for now, and consider adding the number of days onto your Whole30 equal to the number of days you consumed the salsa.

There are salsas available without added sugar. I bought several on Saturday at Whole Foods. That amount of sugar should cause little trouble, so you are okay to keep going. Adding a few days of extra time would help insure that you get the full Whole30 experience, but probably is not necessary.

Thanks Tom! I checked the ingredient label, but must have missed that pesky ingredient (I am prone to careless errors - which is why I was always bad at math in school). I am planning on continuing to use the whole 30 as the foundation of my every day diet.
