Planning to start W30-AIP-IBS/FODMAP Protocol

Hi All, I am a 55 year old female with a history of IBS, GERD, Hashis Throiditis and possibly some other AI afflictions. I have recently switched to an SCD/Paleo diet to deal with my IBS and GERD. I am almost W30 compliant already, but wil have to give up the big 3, dairy/eggs, chocolate and wine.

I am estatic to be free of IBS and GERD for the most part, but I still have some lingering issues. Since I went on SCD and eliminated all grains, I've been having 2 eggs for breakfast each morning. I am wondering if that is negatively affecting me. Also, I still have some blood sugar issues, probably reactive hypoglycemia and I'm pretty sure I have cortisol issues. Giving up my daily treat of a tiny serving of Haagen Daaz will probably help.I am hoping that doing this protocol and getting a bit cleaner in my diet will be what I need to feel better.

Hubby and I are going on vacation on 8/19, so I want to finish the W30 before then so I can indulge, just a bit, not too much. Losing a few lbs would be nice too. Right now I am planning recipies and meals I can have in the AM and bring to work. Our dinners are using grilled meat/fish and a side, which I can choose for myself and not infringe on hubby to share it. I'm probably going to start next Saturday, the 13th. Lucky 13!

The meal planning is hard. I have so many things eliminated (FODMAPS, nightshades, eggs) that most of the recipies have to be adjusted. But I've become used to that. I think I just need to even out my meals (not just have eggs/protein for breakfast and pureed squash soup/carb for lunch) and I'll be fine.

Wish me luck!

Hi Bet!!

Your post caught my eye, as my husband and I will be starting the AIP tomorrow (July 10).  I'm a hashimoto's girl, trying to keep from having a total thyroidectomy (have had nodules + goiter for 30 years and it is now suggested I have everything removed due to size).  Dh is an IBS sufferer.  We've been primal/paleo for a few years now.  In the last year I've dropped gluten and other grains completely, gotten two successful Whole 30s under my belt, which lead me to dropping dairy for good as well.  I do tend to like my eggs and nuts, and we cook a lot and use a lot of nightshades (particularly spice-wise) in cooking, so this should be interesting.  Would you like to start a little group?? Would love to share support!

Sure. I actually dedided to start on Monday and I just finished day two dinner. I feel like I'm eating a lot of food and forcing myself to eat it. That is one of my problems, I tend to eat fast and then get full right away and stop. Then of course I'm hungry 2 hours later so I snack. This AM I ate more for breakfast, so I didn't have hunger pangs until lunch. I already feel a difference in the hypoglycemia, no more yawning attacks in the afternoon.

Not having my nightly chocolate and wine hasn't hit me yet. I thought I would miss the eggs, but frankly I was starting to get a bit sick of having then every morning. I think I miss butter more. It's just a pain having to tweak all the recipes to take out all the stuff we can't have. For instance, I made this to have for breakfasts, and I had to leave out some of the spices and the apple:

I used Japanese sweet potatoes and shredded them in the food processor, it went fast. The sweet potatoes fried in coconut oil are fantastic.

Great start! Thanks for the link to the patties.  Will have to try them.  I'm assuming you took out the apple cause of FODMAPs, right? That's a big one that my husband has to avoid.  That and onions get him worse than just about anything.  We adore Japanese sweet potatoes.

yes, apples I can be ok with if I peel and sometimes even zap them in the microwave to soften them, but for this diet, I've eliminated them. My big FODMAPS are onion and broccoli. It took me 30 years to figure that out!
