My Whole 30 Musings

Today is Day 3 but I just found this log area. I've been doing good so far with the food. Felt great the first day, hangover the second day and now feel really good today. Hope it stays but I know there could be some rough days as well as good days ahead.

Yesterday I went to a family birthday party and ate NOTHING they had there. I brought my own food and it was so good. I had made taco salad and potato salad which I couldn't eat. There was brisket with some kind of oil and smothered in bbq sauce, baked beans and fried mushrooms, poppers, onion rings and oreos. Then of course birthday cake and ice cream. My brother-in-law loves to cook heavy fried thngs despite having had gastric bypass a few years ago and gaining back almost all he lost. Plus he has horrible stomach, back and other issues, started smoking again and drinks like a fish. So sad, but I know how hard it is to change. Even if I wasn't doing this Whole30 I wouldn't have had the fried food. It does bad things to me. Very bad.

The dinner I brought was mixed greens, grilled steak, avocado, olives and an olive oil, lemon juice and spicy mustard dressing. Then I brought cherries from the farmer's market to eat while they all had cake. It was delicious and I was so happy not to feel bloated and sluggish. I ended up only eating twice yesterday as we were prepping for the party and I had no time to eat lunch. I wasn't hungry at all during the day. So I ate around 8:30 AM and dinner around 4PM. I won't make a habit of that but I still felt I did ok.

More later.  :)

Day 3 was a good day. No headache at all and not tired either. Almost ran out of time again to eat 3 meals. I ate breakfast at 8AM after waking at 5:45. The whole eat within 1 hour of waking is hard for me but hopefully I'll start getting hungry sooner. I am already eating before I have my first cup of coffee like they suggest in It Starts With Food. That's hard because I love having coffee first thing. But I know it's a huge appetite killer for me so I'm not even going to try. I was shopping and didn't eat anything else until 3:00PM. I wasn't hungry until then either. I ate a smaller amount because I knew we were eating dinner in a few hours. So I had scallops and sauteed kale in coconut oil with garlic. Then for dinner later around 7PM I had grilled chicken thighs, roasted broccoli & cauliflower and half an avocado. Yum! Having some heartburn but not too bad. Overall a good day.

Back to work tomorrow for me and I know it will be hectic. Hope the sleepy stuff doesn't hit or the "I want to kill everyone". If it does, I will live through it and my bosses will too lol.

It sounds like you are doing great!!

I am doing my first whole 30 as well...day 2 for me.

I struggle with wanting to skip meals. From what I understand...it is really important that we do not :) who knew the biggest challenge would be to eat more? I have always been "too busy" to eat during the day. Silly and unhealthy. Hopefully we will both beat this habit.

Thanks gingerselkie. Good luck to us both!

Day 4 is over. Felt pretty good today, not tired, cranky or bad in any way. I'm a bit scared as I'm waiting for these symptoms to hit. So far so good. I know everyone is different but besides the headache on day 2, nothing yet. I'm feeling determined to keep going on this thing. I tend to quit things quite easily so I hope I can complete the Whole30. I keep telling myself it's only 30 days. Then I can have other foods if I want. Plus I want to actually finish something I start. That really helps. Plus day 4 is over already! Only 26 more to go!  :D

Finished Day 5! Still felt good today. A bit of heartburn here and there. Had the runs a few times today. Guessing this is my body getting rid of the bad stuff. Hands got very rashy after dinner. Lots of coconut oil-may be a problem? Had steak, peppers, mushrooms, olives and cantaloupe. Otherwise I'm feeling good!

Thanks snailytrail! I think it really helps to keep in touch with each other on this. We can all support and encourage on these pages. I'm on the Whole30 Facebook group too!

Hope your days get easier. You're only 1 day ahead of me so we can check in with each other once in a while.  :)

Day 6 over. Done. In the bank. Yay! I am feeling really good. Had a great dinner and am now relaxing. I found I had a lot more energy at work today when I needed to get up and do a few things. It seemed like there was a little bounce to my step. It's wasn't a huge energy boost, but I noticed a small change. I love how I'm taking the time to really pay attention to not only my food but how my body is reacting. This is a big change but I'd place a bet that my body likes the way I'm eating-big time!  :)

Day 7 finished-1 week done! Yay me! Lol. I'm so proud I've gotten this far. I usually quit stuff by now. This is such a new thing for me to stick to something. That's another reason why I want to finish this. To actually complete something I started would be huge for me.

This week was way better than I was expecting. Except for the headache day 2, I have felt about the same each day. Good, no stomach cramps, no tiredness, no anger (which is unusual for me because I tend to get angry a lot (must be all those grains and dairy!). I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. I keep hearing about symptoms but hardly any here. A few bathroom adjustments and I still have hand rashes here and there also but I know my body is still adjusting. Part of me hopes it's because my body loves this and it's been waiting to eat like this forever. Part of me thinks I may have a bit of roughness ahead. Either way, I am sticking to this. Onward to week 2!
