heitea
Hey there I'm a 22 year old who just recently decided eating SUPER WELL could make me feel and look better! I started the Whole30 a couple days ago (this is already day 6!). I'm hoping to improve a couple parts of my life including: ACNE (darnit, I've had it since I was 13-14 years old!) minor anxiety (not so bad, but it'd be nice to lessen it) constant dieting/relationship with food So my main goal is to figure out my acne issues... I noticed last year (when I went vegan for 4 weeks) that I broke out a lot. I freaked out when I broke out after eating a whole bag of twizzlers (super sugary goodness). I wish I had realized then that sugar really makes me break out, but nope! I just said I'd never eat twizzlers again. And I haven't since. Well, my acne is definitely hormonal, but I'd like to try to lessen the blow each time TOM comes around, ya know? So, Whole30 it is! A little disclaimer: I don't eat meat other than fish, so most of my protein comes from fish and eggs! Also, I take the following supplements: -Fish oil capsules -Vit. D when I don't get sun -Zinc I'm going on vacation next week to see my boyfriend's parents, so wish me luck as his mother loves to try to force me to eat everything! Ugh... heitea
DAY 6: Food today: Breakfast: Sauteed sweet potato with curry in coconut oil. So. Good. Lunch: Baby spinach and tuna with lemon; blueberries; some walnut halves Dinner: (Will have) Eggs and broccoli and cauliflower; pear Pros so far: -I don't crave sugars at all, not even a little bit -I don't crave potato chips or tortilla chips and salsa like I used to -My bowel movements are super regular -I'm happy to say that after being a vegetarian for 2 years, this has caused me to realize how much I LOVE FISH. Yum. Cons so far: -I started this with one of the worst breakouts I've had in a long time. I was definitely hormonal (sore breasts, cranky, oily, etc), so hormones were a factor there. The con is that I keep getting new "blind" zits everyday. This has never happened to me... Usually I break out, and then that's it, it heals, and then a few weeks later I break out again. Fun cycle. -I'm moody and cried in the bathroom today.
michelleragusa
I have had acne for a while and mine broke out worse when I first started my Whole30. I can definitely sympathize! Have you tried eating flax? It's on the limited list for the Whole30, but when I ate it everyday previously it made a HUGE difference in my skin. I've been trying to eat it a couple times a week. Don't worry about feeling moody either! I was SO emotional the second week, but now feel very content. It will pass. Best of luck!

It's funny that you mention flax because I was just researching it online! I used to take the supplements, but stopped when I ran out and didn't get more. I was thinking about buying some more a couple weeks ago because I took it for the omega-3s. However, since I've started eating fish, I didn't think I'd need it. Hoping my moodiness subsides before I go on my vacation!! No need to be moody on a 17-hour car ride OR around the boyfriend's parents. haha. heitea
DAY 7: It's been one week! Food: Breakfast- 2 fried eggs (in EVOO) with fresh salsa; 10-15 blueberries Lunch- Cooked zucchini, squash, and onions and a little garlic in EVOO; hardboiled egg (too many eggs!) Snack- Almonds (I shouldn't be having so many nuts!) Dinner- Big salad full of different greens and tuna. yum! Went grocery shopping to get more avocados! I'm in love with avocados. Seriously. Pros: -My skin is taking a turn for the better today! It's probably just my hormones settling, but it would be nice if my skin continuously improved instead of just being so-so! -I'm feeling much less cranky and don't feel like crying even a little bit. Once again, could be the hormones calming down, but who knows? It might continue! Also, I just quit my job so I maybe there's a little relief from that? Cons: -I'm finding it difficult to get enough calories! I think I've lost weight and my stomach is sad at night (aka kind of hurts from needing food). It's difficult when I don't eat chicken or beef-- just fish. But oh well! More avocado/eggs/etc!
heitea
DAY 8: Feeling pretty good today! I went to the grocery store and saw cheez-its and got sad for a minute that I couldn't get a box for the road trip up north that I'm taking next week. I wonder what I could bring for on-the-road snacks? Any ideas? What I've eaten today: Breakfast- 3 eggs; fresh salsa; 6 blackberries Lunch- Cooked spinach, onions, garlic, and mushrooms in EVOO; almonds Dinner- Raw baby spinach, fresh guacamole, tuna Since I used to be obsessed with counting calories, I know for a fact that this is not enough to sustain my weight. Which means, I'm definitely going to be quite a few pounds lighter by the end of this. If this is Day 8, I can't imagine what Day 30 will look like. I'm definitely not doing this to lose weight-- just to break my addiction to chips and sugar! (and of course, to see the effect on my acne). Pros so far: -Appetite isn't crazy, and I get full on healthy foods! -Feeling good during my workouts FINALLY. The first week was brutal-- no energy at all. I'm finally getting it back! Cons so far: -Feeling a little sad that I can't have a glass of wine this weekend with my friends. -My younger sister invited me to get FroYo, and she looked disappointed when I turned the offer down. -No noticeable change in my acne so far. Good thing there's makeup!
