Brenda- July 8 start

Day 1 was yesterday.  I spent a good amount of time re-reading material on this website and trying to think about how to make myself become a meal planner.  The best planning I did all weekend was boiling eggs so I could have a grab-and-go breakfast every day as I run out the door.

I am a working two jobs, wife, mother of three, homemaker, referee, chauffer, etc, etc, etc.  Meal planning is not my strong point.  And as such, in my household of 5 (plus 3 dogs), I'll give you one guess how many are eating on the whole 30 plan?  That would be 1.

However, I am a fabulous salad maker and eater.  And egg boiler.  And chicken maker.  So, for me it's not about easting the right foods.  It's training myself to be better prepared.  I LOVE the "one shelf in the pantry and one shelf in the fridge" dedicated to just me...if I thought for a second that it would remain mine.  I AM going to give this a go though.  I love this idea.

I am also going to just be very simple this week and not stress about too much variation and cooking.  I am not a great cook, except for the three things listed above.  I plan to go to the store this weekend and buy and cook some things for the next week.  Grab-and-go style.

So, yesterday, I had hard boiled eggs, salad with turkey and egg for lunch, and salad with beef for dinner.  Lots of veggies, lots of protein, and olive oil dressing- good fats.  Today so far has been similar.

Day 2 is on track.

For ease of planning, I highly recommend doing roasts in the crock pot and/or getting some frozen turkey or beef patties. You can cook up maybe a half dozen of those for the week and I think they are fantastic with a little mustard, homemade mayo, and sliced tomato. Roasts are so easy too.

Day two ended as planned.  Day three is going better than expected.  I actually had a moment of, "oh, I want this...NO, no, I don't!"  My cravings aren't for sweets, it's all about the bread.  But, I'm dealing with it.  I watched the movie, "FatHead" yesterday.  What an eye opener!  I'm going to watch it again very soon.  I knew wheat (bread) was bad.  But to see it in that context was really alarming.

The only other effect is my current caffeine headache.  I'm drinking a lot of water and I'm sure this will clear up in a couple of days.

I walked otu of the house this morning without my breakfast.  :(  But, my headache is abating!  :)

I'm finding I don't miss bread so much today.  :)  A few days away from it does wonders!

Yesterday I was very hungry...all day long.  I ate salads, meats, eggs.  I'm looking forward to making a pot roast this weekend.

This isn't hard so far, more being aware...and committed.  So far, so good.  And I am aware it will not always be so "easy".  If it were easy, everyone would be here and everyone would be healthy.

OH, I got it!!!  I figured out today how to eat something I love while making it Whole 30!!!  There is a local sandwich shop that I love.  They have a chicken sandwich with grilled veggies.  And I always had them double or triple the veggies on it and we always laughed about my "saald on a bun". Now I've tried ordering it AS a salad and it is not the same, so I ordered the sandwich today and then, when I got to work, dumped it off the bread and into the bowl.  Perfect. And the bread went in the garbage.

To me, it is the perfect solution and maintains the integrity of MY first go round with Whole 30.  I am so happy!  It's the little things.

The energy!  The energy!  Holy moly, I'm not tired at 8pm, in fact, I'm having to make myself go to bed at ten and then wait to fall asleep.  And then, it's not eevn difficult to get up when my alarm goes off.  I'm clear headed, lots of energy, happy.

AND, I even got my husband working a modified whole 30!!!

Happy Friday!

Sounds amazing! My husband is also showing interest in a modified paleo for the month. He brought it up himself. Says he won't give up his 1 TBS of milk in his coffee or his daily yogurt but seems on board with everything else :). I imagine he'll sneak candy once in a while, too . We'll see...

It doesn't feel like work anymore.  To be perfectly honest, I wasn't perfect.  However, my whole mindset about food HAS changed.  My whole perspective about what food is and how it makes me feel, both physically and mentally, has changed.  For Good.  The thought of a big bready bagel makes my stomach turn in knots.  And while my mouth still wants to taste it, even my brain says, "No way!"  The heartburn and sick feeling I know will result is more than enough for me to just stay away.

So, my whole30 was closer to six weeks. And like I said, it wasn't perfect.  But, it was life changing.  And isn't that the idea?
