newtowhole30
On the Whole 30 program is there any recommended intake regarding red meat?? My husband and I are on day 6, and we have found ourselves eating grass-fed steak/beef more than we otherwise typically would. I've had the mind set for many years to limit red meat intake...what is the Whole 30's take on this?? Another gimic-y standard that we've all been trained to follow or a necessary guideline we should continue to stick to?? Thanks!
missmary
yay! good for you! grass-fed steak/beef is one of the most nutritious choices you can make (better than chicken or pork), and I've never heard the whole9 suggest limiting it. It's good to rotate proteins, so throw in some fish, chicken, pastured pork, etc. every once in a while, but unless you are eating significantly larger portions that the meal template suggests, I think you are fine. In fact, personally, I try to make grass-fed beef and lamb my standard, and rotate the others in a little less frequently.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 13, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 13, 2013 You would do very well eating red meat every day. Beef and lamb are more nutritious than chicken, pork, or turkey - the favorites of conventional eaters. As Miss Mary said, if you follow the meal template regarding portion size, you are fine to eat red meat as much as you like. Beef is the meat I eat most often nowadays. I eat oily, cold-water fish every other day to make sure I get plenty of omega3s, but sometimes go weeks without eating chicken or pork.
