letitbeatles9
Hey guys, I'm on Day 3 of my Whole30 and have a question about digestive issues. I'm really sorry if this is TMI (you've been warned!), but here goes: With three of my meals I've eaten raw baby carrots as my veggie. As a result, I had orange stool that was a little less than perfectly formed. Clearly, it's a result of the carrots, but just want to make sure it's not a sign of something wrong? Like my body not fully digesting the carrots or something? My stomach has felt a little "meh" since Monday. I happened to get my period on Day 1 of my Whole30 and that normally makes my stomach kind of unhappy, so that's probably a factor. Also, I know you're supposed to fill your plate with veggies. How much does that normally end up being? A serving or two? A cup or two? Like how big of a plate are we talking about? I've noticed that my meals sustain me and I don't get hungry until meal time. When I eat though, I often don't feel like finishing my whole plate. Just wonder if I can eat a little less veggie because I've been eating pretty hearty portions to make sure I'm fulfilling the fill the plate requirement. Are these things just normal getting used to eating a new way or do I need to adjust my strategy? Any guidance you guys can give is definitely appreciated! Thanks for listening! ~Megan
amberino21
If you're eating lots of carrot, it's hardly surprising your poo is orange!! In terms of amounts of vegies, ill have at least 2-3 cups per meal, and i also make sure to have a variety of vegies/colours per meal. 5-9 cups is recommended per day just to sustain good health... Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 17, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 17, 2013 Raw veggies are harder to digest. By increasing your veggie consumption and eating them raw, you may be challenging your stomach a bit much. Try cooking your veggies for a few days and see if things improve. It is difficult to eat too many veggies unless we are talking about starchy veggies like sweet potato, butternut squash, etc. And even then, as amberino21 said, you need a pretty good amount. letitbeatles9
Thanks, amberino21! Much appreciated. The guidance on the veggies helps! I'm not used to eating this much meat and veggies at every single meal, so it's an adjustment. And yeah, clearly carrots = orange poop. Just wasn't sure if that meant I'm not fully digesting the carrots. I read up on digestive enzymes in the Hartwigs' book and given my general situation, they seems like a good idea. I'm going to try some and see if they make my tummy happier overall.
