Man treats:

  • Massage (it's very easy to learn how to do this pretty well!)
  • Flowers - no really they sometimes like them - especially like a bonsai tree or something tropical for a desk.  Or bamboo if you wanna go all Feng Shui
  • One of those cool Man spas where they get a proper (but overpriced) shave
  • tickets to an event thing he likes - sports, music
  • Books - or hobby stuff?
  • organizing stuff for a garage or workspace
  • 'Dads Day Off' - where he's off the hook for whatever family / household responsibilities are the norm
  • Favorite movies - Netflix Binge

If he was very close to the person, maybe collect things / stories about the person.... Make a collage with the picture.. something 'remembrancy' that he wouldn't do for himself.

I feel really good today and did a little jig...cheated by stepping on the scale.  I did not weigh myself before I started but I know what my weight was a few weeks before and I'm sure I had a gained a few before 8/1 since I indulged in all the things I knew would be gone...ice cream, pasta, pizza, candy bars.

I am so thrilled, I almost cried....I love this new way of eating!  After my 14 more days treats on occasion!! Very Special occasions only, not everyday!

I can usually go ages without stepping on a scale...I  had to train myself to do it regularly when I was trying to understand how my weight was affected by things I did.  Keeping off the scale is not a big deal for me, but I am very curious, especially considering how my usually super tight beige pants are fitting quite nicely today.  Part of me feels like I could just do it...rationalization: since I don't have scale issues, the "don't step on the scale" rule doesn't apply to me.  But, then again, why not just do the program on its own terms?  But I am very very curious. . .

Happy day 16 all.

I cheated adn weighed myself too. Down 8 lbs, but I'm more excited about being able to button my pants and not feel like a homemade sausage. hee hee.

grocery shopping tonight and I can't WAIT, fridge is so bare.

I've been stepping on the scale almost daily since I'm nursing and I don't want to lose too much weight too fast. I've lost only about a pound so far, which is fine since I'm at a normal weight for my height anyway. Plus I lost 10 pounds last month! I can't complain, though, I have no pains when I wake up in the mornings, and the eczema at has been on the back of my head in varying degrees for over 30 years has been coming and going the last week or so.... I think my body is doing some other housekeeping and healing before losing any more weight. Any more weight I lose will come off in time. :)

Yeah, I stepped on the scale a couple days ago too...was down 4.5 pounds. I also have a tight fitting pair of jeans that I will try on again at the end and hope they fit better.

Today has been one of those days where nothing sounded good to eat. I wasn't craving anything, so that is good, but just wished I had something different to choose from. I guess maybe its time to look at some new recipes!

No scale for me...I am just the kind of person they made that rule for.  One disappointing number could make me forget all the positive benefits and take a nose-dive into a bowl of kettle corn.  Or chocolate.  It is patience, patience here.

So glad it's Saturday!  Weather is gorgeous for August in KS.  Got an extra long dog walk in the works, then a much needed trip to the grocery store.  I'm making some more of Well Fed's Citrus Carnitas!  Maybe our new favorite food :0)  And the tropical salad recipe in the Whole 30 Daily today looks great.  I am also going to try mayo again - last weekend's batch was a disaster!  We shall see.

Happy Day 17, everyone!

Hey Lexes42 - just read your post on aging and couldn't agree more!  My sister is a physical therapist and has done home health for years.  Over the last two years, we both turned 40 (I am 1 year older than she is), and we made a goal to do 40 fitness events - 5k's, adventure races, kayaking trips, etc.) in those two years.  We have 4 months left, and seven events to go.  It's been fun but also a lot of work.  But we did it because of a number of those little old ladies she works with.  A few of whom meet her at the door with nothing on the bottom half because it is too hard to get their pants on.  We giggle when she calls to tell me she had another naked lady today, but it really motivates us to keep up our health now.

When we go to races together, we race under the team name "Pants On!"

@michaela - thanks so much! can't wait to try those recipes!

@nsyversen - I'm guessing you live in Chicago? Sprinkles and Garrett's are my absolute favorite. My last treat before starting the Whole30 was a Sprinkles Peanut Butter cupcake. I don't live there but visit often and man, if I was around all those delicious temptations...I don't know if I could make it through a Whole30, so cheers to you!

I do live in Chicago.  Thanks so much for the cheers and good wishes!  Same to you.

I haven't caught up on reading posts, but I just wanted to check in and let you all know I am still working it!  I'm off to a Farmers Market for the first time in years; I'm ready to try some new recipes this week.

I'll catch up with you all later.  Work was crazy but I had energy!  I've been having some food cravings so I am thinking that some new spices and new veggies to help mix it up might put a stop to that.

Thanks!

Still here and still going strong on day 17. I've had issues with not being hungry at all the past few days, including today. So I'm forcing myself to eat at least two meals per day. It's my lady time, so that might have something to do with it.

Speaking of lady time, I generally have horrible cramping the day before, but it didn't happen this time. I don't know if that's an added benefit of eating better foods, but it was certainly a welcome change. I'm also not as bloated as usual. In fact, I put on a pair of jeans yesterday that I haven't worn in almost a year. I was able to get them up and buttoned, but not comfortably yet. Hopefully, by the end of this Whole30, I will be able to wear them again.

Very curious about the number I might see on the scale at the end.

For about two days now, I am not feeling THAT good anymore. I'm bloated, I can see my face is swollen, so are my legs a bit. Yesterday I had diarrhea (sorry...). But I think it all has to do with the fact, that my period is late (sorry, guys). Should have been here on Monday already, but I read it is not uncommon during Whole30. And no, I'm not pregnant. I just hope it's here soon, I don't feel so well. And I do hope that in future my way of eating will influence all of these hormones positively, because I do want to get pregnant. ;)

Well, enough of that.

I wish you all a very happy day 18!!!

This is not TMI in this kind of forum...this is good stuff to know! Bloat could be because of period.  I didn't have as much as usual but it was still present and as soon as I started to bleed I started to pee like crazy again.

Yesterday I bought myself a cute lunch bag at Home Goods, that was my 1/2 way mark reward!

Today I'm checking my stock, and replenishing a few things from the grocery.  Making Mayo and some avocado dressing. Cooking 2 sweet potatoes and making roasted beets and some Kale chips.  M1 not sure yet, M2 a deconstructed chicken sandwich and dinner I am making clams casino.  Here we go with some $$ bacon again....but it's soooo good!

Happy Sunday all.

Well I did something silly yesterday.....

I was super busy all day, so I did eat M1...but it wasn't until 4pm when I realized I hadn't eaten anything else except for some dried cherries.

SO.  Talk about jitters? I was weak and shaky and wobbly, so i piled up a plate with chicken, venison, roasted broccoli and homemade mayo (used wrong kind of olive oil so it tates like DUST, yuck) and a coconut covered date.  It took me a couple of hours to recover, then around 8pm I ate a larabar and small handful of almonds.

I avoided pizza and boos last night, and it wasn't really very hard at all. I mean the pizza smelled good, and everyone was loving it, but I had just eaten so I was totally fine.

This mroning I'm trying out a new tea, maybe some of you have had it? It's Yogi Tea (nothing but tea!!!!!) Vanilla Spice Energy. It's kinda chai flavored, but i scooped some coconut oil into it, and omg is it hitting the spot this am.

One last thing.  Coconut butter?? What the heck do you do with this stuff?  How do you eat it?

I'm off like a prom dress, lots to do today.

Marie

I love coconut butter - I put it in coffee or tea (whizzed in the blender), on vegetables, on fruit, smushed with HB eggs...I could eat it out of the jar if I wanted...

I bought the most wondrous Kale at the Farmer's Market yesterday.  It's already blanched and in the freezer in portions, but I had some at 2 meals yesterday.  (Also got Zukes, tomatoes and some large green onions - all organic).

I'm feeling a little bloated myself - on Friday, the jeans I wore last Friday wouldn't fully zip so I had to wear a looser pair.  But I figure its all part of the healing process.

I have some cheater roast pork left, and I'm planning on making Well Fed's chili recipe.  I did a warehouse run last night and got cage-free eggs and frozen shrimp, among other things.  And more broccoli.  I had my last serving of curried broccoli soup yesterday so I'll be cooking that up today.

I was interested to note that I probably had too much fruit yesterday.  A big serving of melon, but I'm thinking the sugar was more available in it because I was very very hungry.  No longer used to that, LOL.

Having a massage this afternoon and maybe a mani/pedi.  We are past halfway, yay us!

Do you heat it first? It's as hard as a rock? It says on the jar to heat it, but....should I not have scraped the fat off the top? (I added it to my existing jar of coconut oil)

Thanks for chiming in, I had no idea, and I KNOW I'm missing out on something!? LOL

I believe that now would be a REALLY great time for a massage, think of how many toxins you've already booted to the curb...the massage could really take you to the next level of clean...drink PLENTY of water aftewards!!!  Oh and enjoy, I'm jealous! :D

ate ok today, but dried pineapple at a friend's called me....I had some. Bad for me! That stuff is SWEET! SO now I am going to keep up with the clean eating, but I sure have not killed my sugar dragon. And I still want chocolate. Maybe now I want dried pineapple covered in chocolate?! Good heavens, I really need to keep this going until that dragon is laid to rest!

I still plan on trying the auto-immune Whole30 in October. The next few weeks are wicked busy, so I know better than to try something so challenging now. Just have to keep things as clean as possible until then.

I'm in the same boat- been very bloated and also had diarrhea a couple of days ago. I'm likely not due for a period, though, since I'm breast feeding my five month old.

I haven't prepared enough the last few days, but I've still managed not to eat off-plan, in spite of some delicious-looking gluten-free pizza at my mother-in-law's yesterday.

This morning I met a friend at Starbucks, and I hadn't eaten enough for breakfast. By the time we were done, I had eaten all the snacks in my purse. Then went across the parking lot to Whole Foods and was shaking from hunger. So I bought some already cooked bacon from the breakfast bar. It was the best of the available options for me, even though I'm pretty sure it wasn't Whole30 compliant. Since I didn't have stable enough blood sugar to drive myself home, I went with it.

Planning to cook up a few things today if I can muster up the energy. I have been up since 4:40 am, though, so it may be tomorrow!

ok, my back hurts from being in the kitchen for 4 hours.  And I still have not made my mayo or avocado dressing.  I'm taking  a break then making those. Went to grocery (I seem to live there) I made shrimp for bf, clams casino for me sInce I am allergic to shellfish and fin fish (yeah I know, weird).  I can eat mullusks, clams, scallops,  mussles, oysters (yuk) and squid.  But anything else from the sea is off limits.

I made meatballs, chili, chicken, eye round.  And I finally roasted my beets.  Made hard boiled eggs and a zucchini crustless quiche, roasted sweet potatoes and prepped my fridge for quick meal assembly. I'm ready for the week!!

I'm beat! tomorrow quiche for M1, leftover clams and salad for M2 and eye round with brussle sprouts and toasted nuts for M3.

Bring it!!

I leave mine on the bench in the sun....or smash it up with a fork, and put some in a bowl if I want to coat vegies in it.

i'm not sure what you mean by scraping the fat off the top? it is practically all fat :P

Well gosh, I'm glad I'm not the only one that's bloated today. We can all have a big bloated party! Haha! Add in cranky, gassy, and peeing a ton to my list too. So it's safe to say that none of us are feeling the magic yet.

Oh, and it feels like something is loosening up in my lungs. Coughing a bit and kinda wheezy right now. Lets get this nasty stuff out of me! :)

I ended up not rallying and cooking anything. Napped instead, and my family had to wake me up twice to get me to come downstairs for dinner. But my husband cooked a Whole30 approved dinner! He is not doing it, but I guess he's been paying more attention than I thought! :) Brussels sprouts with bacon, and ground turkey with onion, carrot, and mushrooms. It was delicious! And even better, it was the first meal I've eaten this month that I didn't have to make for myself.

Then we got the kids bathed and (finally) to bed, and I'm in bed already, too. At 8:30. Parched again, though. I'll drink some water and go to sleep, hopefully for the night.
