Mrsfrosty
Hello all. A little history... I first read "It Starts With Food" in May on my iPad...LOVED it...it made so much sense, so decided to commit to doing a Whole30 June 1-30. Started a thread and had wonderful people join me in my first ever attempt at anything like this, Whole30 or paleo or ? Strggled with weight for 10+ years, tired of diets, scales, numbers, logging, etc. Desire to be healthy and vibrant, get off of blood pressure and cholesterol meds, have a "kinder" menopause, reduce risk of rheumatoid arthritis (runs in the family), want a healthier relationship with food and with my body, mind and spirit! Successfully completed the Whole30 June 1-30. Lost 9 lbs, 12 inches, felt amazing...no cravings for sugar and daily visits to the vending machine at work for candy bars (yes, plural, not 1, but sometimes as many as 3 candy bars in a day), seasonal allergies disappeared, even energy throughout the day, hair, skin, nails healthier. Plus, learning to cook! GREAT RESULTS! But then...came my reintro. I reintroduced dairy....greek yogurt OK. Half and half in coffee...didn't like anymore...prefer the coconut milk. Cheese...made my stomach upset and felt gassy. Reintroduced non-gluten grains. Had quinoa...OK....had non-gluten roll....upset my tummy (looked at ingredients and it was all dairy...cheese, egg, milk, canola oil, salt, starch). Never made it to legumes or gluten grains. By 2nd week of July was definitely OFF ROADING......pizza...McDonald's chicken wrap and fries..... What did I learn from my reintro and off roading? I feel crappy when I do that! My allergies returned, my cravings and visits to the vending machine for candy returned, I want junk food and fried foods and sweets all the time. ENOUGH! I also learned that to be successful with eating healthy, for me, I need to get back to structure....counting Day 1, etc, planning and preparing my foods and following the Whole30 template...with only limited fruit...and NO dried fuit or nuts (got me in trouble the first time around). I also need to stick with the 3 meals vs. letting snacks sneak back in. SO, today is DAY 1 for me...not waiting til August 1...though that makes counting easier. Maybe this will be a mini Whole30...or a Whole 9...9 days July 23 thru July 31...then I can start again with other folks August 1 and join that thread... DAY 1 Br: Protein - 2 HB eggs Veg - cucumbers, cherry tomatoes Fat - avocado Other - strawberry kombucha, a few sliced straweberries. I think I will log my food in this way....showing my template and any deviations.... Thanks! Kelly
kel239
Ugh it sucks so bad to off road and your symptoms come back. Sometimes you need to feel bad I realize how GOOD you felt before. Just like we can be in a state of suck and not realize it because it's what we're used to, we can feel good and take it for granted. Until one day we wake up feeling crappy again. I'm super good at that!

I'm super good at that! Kel: that's SO true....I felt SO amazing during my Whole30.....in fact, people were asking me why I was doing it...did I have "issues" with particular foods, etc. I have eaten so unhealthy for so many years and dieted and obsessed about food, weight, etc. for so many years that one of the main reasons I decided to do a Whole30 was to get in touch with my body...and learn what works and doesn't work for me....am I gluten intoerant? no idea? lactose intolerant? no idea. THAT is why I did this...to learn and grow and get healthy...so I would say the journey...with its ups and downs has been a good one...I'm learning! Mrsfrosty
Checking in. LUNCH: Protein - shrimp Veg - yam Fat - avocado DINNER: Protein - burger patty Veg - artichoke Fat - Paleo mayo Other - trilogy kombucha (pressed ginger, rasberry juice, lemon juice), water Workout: none Successes: Today was my Day 1 back on Whole 30. I stuck with three meals, no snacks. I did not have dried mango or pistachios. HUGE SUCESS - senior dog had emergency and I needed to leave work to drive him to the vets 20 minutes away....was so stressed and not sure if he would be OK...had to leave him there for a few hours....and return home for lunch and then back to work. I grabbed the dried mango and threw it in a lunch bag...and almost ate it for lunch...or then thought I'll skip lunch and just return to work and wait to hear from the vet....almost a stressed, who cares attitude...BUT...then, I got a grip and told myself I need to eat healthy so I can feel better physically, emotionally and spiritually...so I can take care of my husband and my dog...it starts with me. So, I ate the food indicated above. I am proud of myself for making healthier decisions today. I did have a 2nd koombucha drink (was going to limit to one per day)...but considering everything, a second kombucha drink is not that bad...and now I"m done for the day...and get to go pick up my little guy...he's OK, but what a scare! kel239
FYI I'm not a doctor or anything but y holistic mostly primal minded nutritionist said to avoid eating pistachios if you have ANY kind of immune issues or allergies or are fighting candida or mold. Apparently the processing is what encourages the mold. She said peanuts and pistachios 99 percent of time are just pure mold bombs in the body. I ate some peanut butter after a a whole30 and it brought my sinus infections right back. Just thought I'd share the info!

Mrsfrosty
OK, just now renewed my Whole30 Daily subscription. Even though I have saved all 31 emails from June 1 Whole 30....silly as it may seem, I enjoy the accountability and being able to click the link at the end of the day...REALLY was a big part of my first Whole30 success. I set my start date for August 1.

yomix
I am a big Kombucha fan, but thought you could not have it in the Whole30 as it has sugar. Have you researched that?
Physibeth
I am a big Kombucha fan, but thought you could not have it in the Whole30 as it has sugar. Have you researched that? The sugar in the initial brewing of the Kombucha is eaten by the SCOBY. If you are buying from a store you do need to read labels carefully as many have additional sugar added in the 2nd ferment/bottling. I like GT brand because they don't add sugar just some fruit juices.
yomix
Thanks Physibeth. I brew my own, and I only add 1 cup of sugar per gallon of tea, so I'll drink it during the Whole30. Thanks again.

Mrsfrosty
I am a big Kombucha fan, but thought you could not have it in the Whole30 as it has sugar. Have you researched that? in the book and in the Q and A and on the forum is says you can have kombucha is the brand and flavor you select does not have any added sugar in the ingredient list. I drink the GT Synergy and GT Enlightened kombuchas....favorite is ginerade...also mango. says kombucha and pressed ginger. The mango says kombucha and mango puree. I read online that kombucha is made with some sugar, but the book and elsewhere said if not in ingredient list we can have it.
Mrsfrosty
I'm going to check out that thread for making kombucha too! I have to say I'm hooked on the GT kombucha.....synergy and enlightened....ginerade my fav, then mango....cranberry, trilogy....it's keeping me away from soda. So I off roaded more on the weekend.....ice cream, candy, etc. and today drunken noodles....tomorrow, I start clean again with Aug 1 group and getting the newsletters again. Can't wait. I am ready...physiclaly and mentally! I think I gained back 4 of the 9 lbs I lost in June....so I want to get rid of my allergies again.......I'm doing it and learnign from my choices made in July (:

Mrsfrosty
I know nothing about making kombucha...so perhaps someone else can chime in...but I just now googled "kombucha made easy" and this video came up.... http://www.instructables.com/id/Kombucha-Brewing-Made-Easy/ No idea how you add favors...I guess you make the basic tea and then add mango puree or pressed ginger or whatever....
