kit58
I am on day 8 and want to make sure I stay compliant regarding vinegars. Are all of them allowed except for Malt? Are any others excluded? What about: Red Wine Vinegar, White Wine Vinegar, Balsamic Vinegar (which contains Red Wine Vinegar and Grape Musts)? Any guidance is appreciated. Definitely a novice at this! GFChris
Yup, no malt vinegar, no vinegars with sugar, and no vinegars with sulfites in the ingredients list. Those with the language 'contains naturally occurring sulfites' are acceptable.
kit58
Thanks for the information, GFChris! There is so much information here, and I thought that somewhere in my reading I had seen that wine vinegars were not allowed. Glad to hear they are. Onward to day 9! carolinaBlue
There's an excellent article on the blog link that will answer a lot of your "can I have" questions: http://whole9life.com/2013/06/the-official-can-i-have-guide-to-the-whole30/ I've been doing this for a while & I've read ISWF 4 times (at least!) and I learned a lot - it pulls all of the info together into a very handy guide. Hope this helps!
SheilaT
Glad I found this post on Vinegar. It was unclear to me as to what vinegar is acceptable and I understand we need to look for label on "naturally occurring sulfites." However, I made a mistake with Malt vinegar thinking it was Paleo compliant, it turns out, it was not. I used it during my January Whole30. KathyV
I found balsamic vinegars that are flavored with real fruit and no artificial flavorings or colors. They flavor comes directly form the fruit and the aged balsamic with out any sulfites added. I hope these are ok.
