Colleen Roy
After a friend raved about how easy and delicious a beer can grilled chicken was, I decided to give it a go. Much to my husband's dismay, I poured half a can of beer down the sink before starting! ;-) It really was super easy! Dry rub of your choice, gently massaged into chicken, place chicken over open, half full beer can and place in an aluminum pie plate. Grill over medium heat for about 90 minutes and done. Crispy skin, moist meat. No mess. I decided to shave (aka "slice very thin) the brussel sprouts and sautéed them with some pancetta and shallots. The pancetta seemed extra salty tonight. Love it when the taste buds are awake! I didn't get any beer flavor at all and the half a can that we started with was still in the can, so I'm not really sure what the point is? Whatever, it was good!
amberino21
aren't you doing a whole30? beer isn't a compliant ingredient if you are!!
Moderators Tom Denham Posted July 29, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 29, 2013 I think the beer in the can is just a source of moisture. You could use an empty coke can, fill it with water, and get the same effect.
Colleen Roy
We didn't drink any if the beer! And yes, I think using a coke can, or seltzer water can and plain old water would do the same thing! ;-) It really is just a source of moisture while cooking!
