Guest
I am interested in using both of these seeds in ground or grated form. I'm not sure what the current opinion is on using these on AIP. Anyone know?
Kirsteen
When I did the AIP, I pretty much relied on Paleomom for lists of safe foods and spices. She lists both nutmeg and mustard as to be avoided. I used mace instead of nutmeg as it's listed as safe. the list is here http://www.thepaleomom.com/2012/07/spices-on-autoimmune-protocol.html
Bet
I have been avoiding them. And I love nutmeg and grind my own. I would also love some fennel seed, but I'm waiting (only 5 more days!!!). You want something mustardy? Try Watercress. I bought some yesterday. I wasn't expecting THAT!!!! Cloves/cinnamon are a good substitute for nutmeg. Tallulah Wolf-Angel
Baby arugula greens make a great mustard substitute too.
Guest
Thanks to you all. We don't own mace, but will probably get some. I can't currently eat raw foods, but will consider the greens if I get to again. Without nightshades, my palate gets to learn all kinds of new flavors. Also, it turns out there is a whole cookbook dedicated to the AIP!! That might actually motivate me (Queen of Cumin) to try it!!
