sheilabetsy
Hi out there! I cannot believe how I stumbled upon this program through a comment post for Larabar on amazon. So I just had to learn more & here I am all set to start on Aug 1. Now for my question: Is it okay to take vitamins (that don't contain imitation sugar) as well as medically prescribed medications? I have been gluten-free for awhile, except when I was on vacation & boy did I notice the difference then! So I am familiar to those allowable foods. Am I to assume then that absolutely no grains that are gluten free are allowed? My last question: Am I allowed to have rice?

Guest
Sheila, maybe you can learn more about the program by clicking on "Our book" and scrolling down to all of the pdf's. You can also go to "Start here" and select "Resources." There is a ton of info. As for Rx meds, those are allowed. Doctor's orders. Supplements are sort of up in the air. There is a good blog post in the blog about how to decide if you need them and how to get the ones that are most suited to you. If they have icky stuff in them, you may want to consider another source or skipping them for 30 days. Welcome and best of luck to you.

sheilabetsy
Thank you all for your help! I have so much info and just ordered the book today. I'm not sure if any of you have completed this program but, if you have . . . what do you do afterwards? I may be jumping the gun, but I'm just curious. Guest
I completed my first in March. The book describes suggestions for reintroducing foods, if you choose to do so. The resources section also has tips for what is called "Riding your own bike." I found that immersing myself in the program, with the training wheels of all of the rules, helped me not to go off-plan too soon. I waited until about day 28 to start planning my next few steps. My recommendation for now would be to study the program guidelines and the meal template. Then, plan a few meals and prepare them in advance. You might be surprised at how much food you will need and having a few back-ups in the freezer is really helpful. There are sample recipes in a section called Steal this meal under resources. amberino21
I haven't finished, but came from a relatively healthy eating lifestyle previously. I want to reintro things to find out what, if anything, my body reacts negatively too - I already think dairy does, and possibly grains. my skin was one issue I wanted to clear up, and I think that will take longer than 30 days so if I stick to the whole30 style for longer, that's find by me! after I've decided I've done it long enough to be happy with results I want, and found out what I react to, i'll most likely maintain something pretty similar, but allow myself the odd 'off plan' meal/treat just like I did before I started whole 30. I don't have an issue with bingeing on sugar - if I want something, i'll have a bit, but can be satisfied with that - so having the occasional dessert/sweet doesn't phase me too much. UAallison83
Boo...so I just did the supplement check list and it looks like my prenatal is completely non-compliant! I like my prenatal vitamin because its the first one that doesn't make my stomach go crazy so I'm between the proverbial rock and hard place. Thoughts? Guest
Here are Melissa's words about prenatals: "This is the one that we (and Chris Kresser) recommend: http://www.pureencap...00.asp?t1=mvck1It's not technically Whole30 compliant, as it contains milk and soy in the packaging of the vitamins (the capsule themselves). However, I will say that these ingredients will not have any effect on your Whole30, as they do not contain any of the potentially problematic proteins, and the needs of your baby > following Whole30 rules. I would encourage you to find these somewhere on line, as they contain the right micronutrients in the right amounts, without some of the additional stuff that you don't actually want in a multi-vitamin.Best,Melissa " From this thread: http://forum.whole9life.com/topic/6315-compliant-pre-natals/
