Today was day 1 of Whole30.  I think it went well, and I'm wondering if I could be seeing changes already...seems strange but I guess it could happen, lol.

First, my nose is slightly runny.  Ick!  :)  But it's runny in a good way...if that's possible.  :D  Feels like sinuses are clearing out, which is GREAT.  I have huge sinus issues.

Secondly, I found myself walking down the hallway at work today smiling from ear to ear.  For. No. Reason.  :D  I guess it's the sense of accomplishment.  Or, I'm just nuts.

I had my morning coffee with 1/4 can of full fat coconut milk. (365 Organic)

[oops and forgot the handful of macademia nuts]

My first meal was a grass fed 85/15 hamburger patty, 1 small organic fuji apple and some artichoke pesto (surprisingly has compliant ingredients, but probably won't have this often--need to eat up the open jar).

Meal two was another hamburger patty, half a bag of frozen organic broccoli and that little schmear of artichoke pesto.

Dinner was wild caught Mahi Mahi sauteed in coconut oil with mushrooms  [oops and also forgot the watermelon--had a few bites of watermelon].

your smile might disappear in the first few days....most people go through a few days of feeling horrible!! my diet before was not too dissimilar and I felt like i'd been hit by a bus!

making sure I ate properly really helped - if I didn't have starchy carbs, I had no energy whatsoever, and got massive brain fog. this might have been linked to not enough fat too!  just remember protein, fats, and vegies at every meal - include some sweet potato, or pumpkin (or whatever starchy vegies you like) and you'll feel a whole lot better :)

Thank you!!!  I DO have some organic sweet potato puree in my pantry.  I shop at Whole Foods, so it's only got the sweet potatos in it...but I will buy a couple of fresh tomorrow when I do my grocery shopping.

I have a feeling I will get hit by the bus eventually...I've been grain and mostly dairy free for years, and was low carb/Paleo from February to May, but then went back to the massive sugar/processed gluten free snack intake for the last month or two.

~~~
I was a little hungry before bed last night, but it wasn't horrible and I was able to resist a snack.  Was so tired that I went to bed at 7:40...even though I woke up a few times, I slept better than the night before.  Got up at 3:40 this morning...I'm hoping Whole30 will help balance my body out a bit so that I can have more "normal" sleep patterns.
This morning, so far, I'm still feeling good and only now am starting to get hungry.
So here's what I'm eating:
Coffee with 1/4 can of coconut milk, iced   (sipped that from 4:40 to 5:30 ish)
Handful of macadamia nuts (don't intend to make this a regular habit, but I haven't reached appetite suppression yet, so these are it).
85/15 grass fed ground beef patty, 1 small fuji apple  (about to go make this, so 6:30 ish)
(getting veggies here is going to be hard, but I think I'm going to try bell peppers...I don't like the green ones, but I'm hoping the yellow/red ones might be okay, lol...don't know what else to try so early in the morning).
85/15 grass fed ground beef patty, tomato sauce, half a bag of broccoli
Dinner was strange: 1/2 package of Applegate Organics Roast Beef, Brussels Sprouts, 1/4 can of sweet potato puree and a few chunks of watermelon
For breakfast veggie ideas with ground beef, the possibilities are endless. Do you like spinach? Asparagus? Tomato? Sweet potato?
Could you have homemade salsa and guacamole with meal 1? Or grilled zucchini/capsicum/eggplant? Mushrooms and/or brussel sprouts perhaps cooked in ghee or CO?
Frittata with lots of vegies? Soup?
This morning I had roast cauliflower, with a herb omelette, and a ratatouille type of thing....it was delicious!
I DO like all of those things!  I think I could definitely do tomato or sweet potato and I've also done avocado which I like as well.
Thank you for the suggestions, yes, they sound great and I could definitely do some of them very easily.
Day 3.
Had a great time grocery shopping.  Picked up a lot of things, but will still need to go to the farmer's market tomorrow to get blueberries, strawberries, more veggies and whatever else I can find...may sweet potatoes, though I did buy some frozen cubed sweet potatoes.  Found some coconut cream/almond milk in the refrigerator section at Whole Foods...no other ingredients!
I received my new FitBit Flex yesterday, got it all set up last night and have been wearing it for motivation today.  The other part of the health equation is movement, and so I think this will motivate me to move more.
Feeling pretty good today, but could not sleep again last night, and again I took 10mg of melatonin before bed. I think tonight I won't take the melatonin....if I don't sleep, I don't sleep. I got up at 3:00 am after being awake for a couple of hours.  Did a low intensity workout, showered then had some breakfast.
Breakfast (around 5:00 am I think):  2 large eggs scrambled in coconut oil; 1/4 can sweet potato puree; 1/2 avocado; iced decaf coffee with 1/4 can coconut milk.
This was too much food, lol.  I forget that coconut milk is considered a fat, so I really didn't need the avocado.  I thought afterwards that I should have saved the iced coffee for later.
Lunch (noon):  5.25 oz sirloin tip steak, asparagus spears (cooked in coconut oil), 1 red tomato (extremely delicious), 7 cherries
This was an extremely satisfying and delicious lunch!!  Yum
Big romaine salad with slivered almonds, tomato, 5.25 oz duck beast with skin, balsamic vinegar mixed with olive oil, Carlson's lemon fish oil, Carlson's Vit D3, a splash of white vinegar and a shake of garlic powder
I inadvertently had two misses today....I've been taking a chewable cal/mag supplement for years, but it has sugar so I haven't taken any for 3 days...I've ordered some magnesium capsules, but had constipation so picked up a small bottle at Whole Foods.  Um, AFTER taking one, I read the ingredients.  It has potato starch.  Crap, lol.
AND, today I read the label of the Whole Foods macadamia nuts I've been eating...crap, canola oil.  I thought I was being so darned careful. I guess I'll be tacking on 3 days to my Whole30.
So, I will buy some nuts at the Farmer's market tomorrow along with my usual blueberries and strawberries.
Day 4, Sunday
Down in weight this morning, yay!
Slept better last night, finally!  I woke up many times, but went back to sleep.  I went to bed at 8:00 and woke up at 2:50...not bad.  Of course waking up so early messes with my eating schedule...if I eat too early, I seem to be hungrier too early and actually hungrier all day.  And, yesterday it was a bit uncomfortable to eat so much so early, sooooo  I've decided to go back to having my coffee early, then eating a smaller breakfast a bit later.
3:45 - 4:00 am:  sipped on a large iced decaf coffee with 1/4 can coconut milk
6:30 - 6:45 am:  Omelet cooked in ghee:  2 eggs, one-quarter of a red bell pepper, 2 cups mushrooms; 1/4 avocado and 7 cherries on the side (no magic number to the 7 cherries--just seems to be the number that fits into my fist).
Activity so far:  11 minutes on the rebounder with 6 of those being running sprints and 35 minute walk to/from the Farmer's market; plus a 20 minute walk through Target carrying a heavy hand basket, lol
9:30 am:  sample some of the fresh blueberries (less than 10) and really sweet strawberries (probably around 4-5 strawberries) from the Farmer's market.  Wow, I have never tasted such sweet strawberries!  The guy knew he had me when he gave me a sample, lol.   I have washed, cut, bagged and frozen the majority of them.
11: 30 am:  6 oz sirloin tip steak and mushrooms sauteed in Ghee; large cucumber (peeled) drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar; 3 cherries
4:30 pm:  2 oz chicken thigh and 2 oz sirloin steak; sweet potato (about a half cup I think), bell peppers (but admittedly didn't eat them all); 1 T ghee; 1/8 cup blueberries, 1/2 cup strawberries
[rest of day to come]
how do you know you're down in weight?
hopefully your sleep schedule improves - my husband and i both noticed improved sleep, and less waking up during the night. i think I've woken up once or twice since starting....compared to every night!
i think your meals sound quite light on in vegetables - perhaps you could bump those up a bit, particularly at breakfast?
I am a daily weigher who has just pledged on the August Whole30 thread to stop, at least for the next 30 days.  :)
Yeah, I hope the sleep improves too.  I generally wake feeling okay, but I have a HUGE energy drop as the day goes on.  Some of that is hormones, poor diet, etc.  So I'm fairly positive that the Whole30 will help in some way, even if not directly.
Veggies are admittedly hard for me.  I DO like them, but I have gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying) and fiber (and fat for that matter) are contraindicated for that unless they are very well cooked.  I'm doing fine eating them right now though so I'm running with it, but that little thought is always in the back of my head.  I am going to try experimenting more with them...I actually bought a red pepper yesterday.  I don't actually LIKE bell peppers, but they always LOOK good, so I thought I'd try some chopped up in my omelet today.
And, it's funny because I'm not one of those people who is tied to certain types of food for meals...I'll eat breakfast foods for dinner or dinner foods for breakfast, but for some reason my appetite almost turns at the thought of eating veggies for breakfast.  That's a mental thing though and I'll get over it.  :)
I don't like to cook, but I'm hoping I can grow to like it more.   :unsure:
would having soups or slow cooked casseroles help with your condition? the vegies would be very well cooked! :P
and well done for pledging to get off the scale - i was pretty much weighing every day too (whenever i was at the gym...4-5 times a week), and thought it was going to be more difficult than it actually has been to avoid it. the scale was calling my name the first week! i'm kind of interested in knowing what it says now, but not desperate.
Yes, soups, liquid, pureed veggies, etc. are all okay.  The idea is anything is okay as long as it doesn't slow down digestion more than it already is.  Traditionally, fiber seems to cause more problems than fat does for some reason.  The sickest I've ever been is when I added some pectin fiber to a shake.  Wow that caused a flare up that lasted two days.  :(  BUT, it's been two years since I've had any kind of flare-up, so I'm hoping it's gone for good.   :P
Oh, and the red bell pepper gets a thumbs up from me...definitely was good in my omelet!
Day 5.  Took my measurements this morning...too bad I didn't think to do it the first day, but oh well, at least I'm not THAT far along.  What I did NOT do this morning was step on the scale.  It's such a habit I almost pulled it out (it's not out where I can just hop on, I have to pull it out every day).  :)  BUT I pledged and therefor I did NOT.  :D
1:  Iced coffee with 1/4 can coconut milk and 1 drop D3 (2,000 iu) on the way to work
2:  Duck breast with skin; 1/2 cup diced sweet potato; 1 apple (forgot the type---it's one I've never heard of)
Snack:  sprouted almonds (find from the farmer's market yesterday)
3:  85/15 ground beef patty, 1/2 bag broccoli; 1/2 avocado
4:  Applegate organics sliced roast beef, romaine with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, tomato, cucumber (1 whole peeled), slivered almonds
Exercise:  30 minutes lower body weight work, a couple of minutes on the rebounder
As day 5 comes to an end, I am still feeling very good. I think I'm having some minor symptoms, but nothing overtly noticable.  I feel like I'm eating too much food, but I'm not eating past satisfaction.
Day 6.
I actually MAY be experiencing some symptoms after all...last night I got (very suddenly) congested in the evening.  It was weird.  Fine, then congested, lol.  It wasn't even after eating anything (at least not directly after).  It did sort of go away right before bed though.
But, back to not sleeping.  Been awake since 1:00 a.m., been out of bed since 2:40 ish.  Decided to get up and do a gentle exercise session--just played a Wii active game.  Later today I'll do an upper body weight workout.
So far:
1:  Decaf coffee with 1/4 can coconut milk with 1 drop of vitamin D3 (2,000 iu) added
2:  5 oz chicken thigh, 1/4 can pureed sweet potato, 1 Cripps Pink apple, 4 spears of asparagus
3:  5 oz 85/15 grass-fed ground beef, 1/4 can tomato sauce, 7 olives, 1/2 big bag of broccoli, 1/2 avocado
4:  Romaine with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, cucumber (1 whole peeled), 4 oz tuna in olive oil, 7 olives, couple of baby carrots
Can I just say how much I'm loving balsamic vinegar and olive oil.  I may never buy a bottled salad dressing again.  :)
I sort of felt like Killing All The Things today, but then remembered that I always feel that way when I drive.  So, still not feeling much in the way of symptoms...makes me wonder if I'm not doing something right, lol.  j/k  :D
Live a little....have 8 olives! I dare you....
Sorry, counting everything is funny - it reminds me of a certain "team" I know of who would have to count peas. :)
I haven't weighed or measured any food since starting this - after a few years of it, it's a huge pleasure, as well as weight lifted off my shoulders to not worry about it!
LOL!  I actually had 13...didn't actually count when I put them in my lunch.  I am a tracker.  I like tracking things.  All kinds of things, lol.  My friends joke with me about my spreadsheets.  :)
Day 7.
Slept slightly better, but not a lot...at least I didn't wake up at 1:00 a.m.  Made it pretty much until 2:30 ish, but woke up a BUNCH of times through the night.  Had weird flashes--can't really call them dreams because it was just flashes of stuff, but not about food, lol.
Received my new magnesium capsules yesterday.  Took one last night and one this morning, 160 mg each.
Here's what my day looks like:
1:   Decaf coffee, 1/4 can coconut milk
2:  5 oz chicken thigh meat (skinless); 1/2 avocado; asparagus spears; Cripp Pink apple
3:  5 oz 85/15 grass fed ground beef; 1/4 can tomato sauce; 13 (LOL) olives, 1/4 bag broccoli
4:  Salad:  Romaine, Wild Planet salmon, artichoke bottoms, slivered almonds, balsamic and olive oil, cherries
I am sneezing a lot more than usual...don't know if it's related to this or not.
Took another magnesium capsule with dinner.
Uggg, did NOT sleep well--awake off and on all night.  I'm kind of over this, lol.  I am also sneezing a lot.  I may actually take an allergy pill when I get home.  I've been really trying to NOT take anything on the Whole30, but I think I may have to.
1:   Decaf coffee, 1/4 can coconut milk
2:  5 oz chicken thigh meat (skinless); 1/2 avocado; Cripp Pink apple
3:  5 oz 85/15 grass fed ground beef; 1/4 can tomato sauce; 13 (LOL) olives, 1/2 bag of haricort vert (green beans)
4:  3.5 oz of grass fed sirloin tip steak (it would have been 7 if I hadn't slung half of it across the room while trying to cut a piece off); sweet potato, spinach; 10 cherries
Okay, it's official, I don't feel well, lol.   I've been sneezing like crazy today and I sound kind of nasally.  Throat and eyes are both feeling funny.  I don't think it's a cold...more like allergies, so I took an allergy pill.  Maybe it will help me sleep which might help me feel better all the way around.
Day 9.
Called in sick.  I just can't imagine sitting there all day feeling like this.  Still feeling like I may have a cold/allergies.  I did some "rebounding" on a mini trampoline and a lot of stretching before bed last night which seemed to help a bit with the aches and pains and took the allergy pill which helped me sleep--didn't take away all the symptoms but it made me drowsy enough that I was able to fall back asleep each time I woke up.  Still woke up a lot, but was able to go back to sleep.
I'm supposed to go to dinner with some friends tonight...undecided whether to go or not.  Guess I have some time to think about that.  We'll be eating at the Outback, so I can have my sirloin steak and hopefully won't fling it at my friends. :D
So, since I'm home today, I may change up my day a little.  Or not.  Don't know yet.  I'll go dry my hair and think on it.   :D
What I learned this week...red and yellow bell peppers rock my omelets, but not much else...however, I REALLY like them in my omelet.   :wub:   Who knew!!??!!
1:   Omelet:  3 eggs, red & yellow bell peppers diced, 2 artichoke bottoms diced, onion flakes (sorry, can't handle the live stuff, lol) cooked in ghee.
2:  Iced decaf coffee with 1/4 can coconut milk; 1 date
3:  85/15 GF ground beef, 1/4 can tomato sauce; 1 tsp olive oil; 13 olives, garlic powder & onion flakes; organic strawberries
4:  sprouted almonds
5:  Outback:  Victoria steak 6 oz, sweet potato (baked in the skin); house salad w/o croutons or cheese and picked out the onions, used oil and balsamic vinegar, but just a little of each
Feeling slightly better this evening...I slept off and on all day.  Not really sleep, I guess, but little short 2 minute naps kind of thing..feels like you've been asleep forever but when you look at the clock it's been only a couple of minutes, lol  But my nose still feels weird and I'm definitely still congested/nasally and my throat is still off too.  So, I took another allergy pill.
Day 10.
Slept MUCH better last night, even after dozing a lot during the day.  God Bless Zyrtek, lol.  Went to bed at 8:00 pm, woke up here and there through the night, but went right back to sleep.  I woke up at 3:00 thinking that was it, but actually went back to sleep until 4:30--I even had dreams.  I still DO have that nasally feeling and a funny throat, also have headaches now, but not sneezing.  Haven't had a BM in two days...today will be 3 if I don't have one.
So far:
1:  2 eggs, red & yellow bell peppers, 2 artichoke bottoms, ghee; 5 cherries
To come:
2:  Starbuck's Iced Venti Americano with my own 1/4 can coconut milk
3:  Salad:  romaine, cucumber, tomato, slivered almonds, Applegate Organics Sliced Roast Beef, Balsamic, olive oil
4:  4.75 oz chicken liver, 1/2 bag frozen sweet potato, lots of mushrooms, coconut oil & ghee; 9 cherries
I was really light-headed earlier today.  Not sure what caused that, but I sipped some electrolyte water while I grocery shopped, then came home, ate something, drank more water and now feel pretty good.  I may have been a little dehydrated and/or had a blood pressure drop.  I have low blood pressure normally, but sometimes when I don't feel well, it drops more.
Thanks!  I actually got a little worried while out shopping today...I started feeling VERY light-headed.  I used to get this quite a lot, but haven't had it in about a year.  I think it's low blood pressure, at least it was last year when I was at my doctor's office.  I had to get a bottle of electrolyte water while grocery shopping.  That helped a bit.  I'm not sure what's going on, but I want this phase to pass quicker than it seems to be, lol.
It's also occurred to me that maybe something I'm eating now is the culprit...all allergies/sensitivities seem to affect my sinuses/head.  :D
Day 11.
Feeling about the same, but the light-headedness is much less pronounced.  I made sure to drink lots of water this morning and also included an apple with my breakfast because I like to take a long (for me) walk on Sundays and I didn't want to risk the dizziness while I was out there.  Shopping is one thing...getting to the car is a lot easier than walking a mile to get home.   :)
Just got back from my walk, which included a stop at Starbuck's for an iced venti Americano to which I added my own coconut milk which I took along.  Stopped at the Farmer's market where I picked up some organic tomatoes (which looked MUCH better than the ones I bought at Whole Foods yesterday), organic blueberries and some organic decaf coffee concentrate (I can make my own iced Americano during the week much easier than what I've been doing).  All told, 45 minute walk.
And, when I got back, there was a black cat laying by the tree by my front door.  I said hello (just the words, not petting) and apparently that meant that we were friends for life, LOL.  Now I'm not really a cat person, but I like all animals, hence my greeting.  The cat had a collar with a tag, but I've not see it before so don't know who it belongs to.  It sat by my front door for quite a while.   :D
I slept slightly more restless last night, but according to my FitBit Flex I was asleep for 7 hours...woke up 16 times (the pattern on FitBit was at least once an hour).  I'm going to take my allergy pill tonight, but may try not taking it the rest of the week.
So far:
1:  2 eggs, yellow and red bell peppers, mushrooms, ghee; 1 apple
2:  Venti decaf Americano w/1/4 can coconut milk
3:  Salad:  romaine, tomato, cucumber, balsamic, olive oil, Applegate Organics Sliced Roast beef, leftover chicken liver (2.25 oz)
4:  Sprouted almonds and raw macadamia nuts
5:  Sirloin tip steak, asparagus, olives, blueberries & strawberries
Exercise;  45 minute walk; 15 one minute sessions on the rebounder
Day 12.  Wish I could say I was feeling great, but it isn't quite happening yet.   :)  Still got whatever I've got. Feeling a bit light-headed this morning, so am staying home from work one more day.
1.  Organic decaf coffee, iced with 1/4 can coconut milk
2:  2 hard boiled eggs, olives, apple
3:  Salad:  romaine, artichoke bottoms, cucumber, diced red & yellow peppers, olive & fish oil, balsamic vinegar; ground beef; 1/2 avocado
4:  Sirloin tip steak, asparagus, ghee, blueberries & strawberries
Planned activity:  bouncing on the rebounder, and a Wii "active" game
Day 13.  Back to work and really wishing I were home.  Still not feeling great, eyes still glassy and a bit light-headed.  I think I've figured out what it is though...  The day before I started Whole30, I was eating an apple...it was delicious, and I wasn't paying attention to IT;  one bite was really foul, I spit it out and looked at the apple which was completely rotten/moldy towards the center.  I am highly allergic to mold.  It makes a ton of sense now that I've connected the dots.  The day I had that bite, I felt nauseated and my throat burned the rest of that day and part of the next.  But that's when I started Whole30...I'm thinking the combo of the two...major changes to diet right after an allergy assault could explain this.  :)  Or not.  Who really knows.  I just know that I haven't had any major problems with my allergies in a few years (since I cut out gluten and most dairy).
I can put up with all the other symptoms...just need the light-headedness to go away.  :(
Here's my day:
1:  Organic decaf coffee w/ 1/4 can coconut milk
2:  2 HB eggs, strawberries/blueberries; 1/2 avocado
3:  85/15 organic GF ground beef, org. tomato sauce, red/yellow bell peppers; olives, asparagus
Later:
4:  Salad:  romaine, tuna or salmon, cucumber, tomato, balsamic, olive oil (with a splash of Fish Oil); and maybe some slivered almonds
