Starting August 4th :)

hello,

I'm new here, although I've been thinking of doing this for about a year. I'm a little nervous that it'll not work but I won't know if I don't try.

I'm 19, I've been in and out of various hospitals, with various problems, one being eosinophilic esophagitis. I'm hoping this is going to a help a bit more than certain doctors.

But also I kind of just want to be healthy, I want to be able to say I eat healthily and actually mean it. I like food, I'm a sucker for a piece of fruit, so. Here goes :)

Hi Charlotte, Emma, Aileen, I'm starting tomorrow, August 4, so just a day later than you. I'm in London, UK like two of you, too. Would love to get in on some mutual support action! Good luck with your 30 days.

I've been 95% grain-free for about 2 months but after some stomach trouble and energy issues I think I could do without the dairy, red wine and chocolate cheats for a month.

Hi Bee,

Best of luck! I'm feeling excited about starting. It is certainly daunting, i feel like the first two weeks might be difficult especially, but it will be a lot easier if we can give each other support and updates! It makes a lot of sense when thinking about it with a clear head - eating only natural, nutritious food- therefore, why should it be scary? But when in the more stressful situations, like at work, that rational thinking goes out the window, I find!

Are you starting today or tomorrow, Bee? (I think today is the 4th, unless the date on my computer is wrong!)  :)

that'll be my foggy dairy-clogged brain :) - I meant August 5th, yes, Monday! So a day behind. I'd already had two cups of creamy coffee when I made the decision, so I have to make tomorrow my day 1.

Hope Day 1 is going well for you!

Awesome to have some support from people attempting the same thing. As you say, Charlotte, it shouldn't be too scary, it's just healthy eating. I realised, having recently cut out cheese, that this wouldn't be such a leap from where I am now but might make the difference to my health. Bit of a snap decision, but why wait? Sometimes these things work better when you dive in.

Thanks! Well done on cutting out cheese Bee. I feel that in some ways this won't be too massive a leap as I've already excluded grains and most dairy. But cutting out sugar will be the huge challenge for me: I always slip up by eating chocolate! I've also been having cream in coffee, but I had a black coffee this morning and actually quite enjoyed it! I keep telling myself it's all in the mind - and forming new habits!

Hi Folks!
Hope you don't mind if I jump in on this...I started yesterday (Aug. 3) after I slipped up on Aug. 1... and Aug. 2.

I've been grain-free for a few years, but I struggle with mindless snacking.  And I love beer.

I think I might be facing an odd challenge----I live alone, and work from home, and don't interact with many people on a day-to-day basis, so heading down to the bar for a pint and a conversation at the end of the day has become a ritual for me.  I don't want to become even more socially isolated in order to do this!  And, of course, I feel like I need to join AA or something because this 30 days without beer feels scary.

But I'm committed.   Right?   ;)

Glad there are quite a few of us! Jac that's a tricky one, will you try going beer-free at the bar, or are you going to find an alternative social life?

I am in limbo today before i start, so having a few things I'll be giving up tomorrow (chocolate, wine). Wanted to temper them with a run but I feel really lethargic, which is one of the reasons I want to do with this challenge.

Hi Bee,

I think I have to skip the bar.  The temptation is just too great.  But at the same time, if I spend my Whole30 in my house, how will I learn to adapt to the world?
I guess that's what this is about...figuring it out one day at a time!

I started today too... This is my 2nd attempt, 1st one was in April & I lasted about 14 days I believe, maybe a few more- (can't really remember!) Anyhow, I felt really good during those 1st 2 weeks, then I had an utter fail at a restaurant & fell off the wagon! This time, I'm in it for the whole 30 days! All of your support will definitely help!

Here's to the WHOLE 30 days of the Whole30! :)

Had a very successful day 1!!! I was gone most the day and had to pack a cooler. It is so important to eat enough, otherwise I'm snacking and cravings hit. Very excited to string a few days like this in a row!

Just choked down a black coffee and packed my breakfast for the office of leftover sweet potato, boiled egg and some red peppers. Lunch will be a big salad with sardines and avocado, dinner I'm not sure about yet but I might try making this when I get home: http://nomnompaleo.com/post/4207543396/damn-fine-chicken

...although I struggle to find organic chicken in the smaller supermarkets...

Hope you're all feeling bright and sparkly this morning.

Chicken is the only meat I don't buy organic - is hard to find and what ive seen is very expensive! I just buy free range, and usually skinless..

Have you tried coffee with coconut oil? Or bulletproof coffee made with ghee? Much better than straight black!! Adding coconut milk is a good option too :)

Thanks for the tips, I haven't tried it with coconut oil, or ghee, no, but I have some of the former handy! Maybe tomorrow morning. Would I need to blend it? Not sure my boyfriend would thank me if I did at 5.45am. Guessing I could just pour and stir with coconut milk?

Ghee for cooking is high on this week's shopping list, definitely.

Good morning all,

Hope you're all doing well this morning.

Thought I would send some positive vibes, I've had a good start to the day: a brisk 45 min walk into work, an organic chicken salad for breakfast with a black coffee! I think preparation will be key: I don't think I would have been bothered to make my breakfast this morning, but made it in advance yesterday. I made two days' worth of lunches and dinners yesterday too, things I can easily re-heat as I know I'll be short of time and tired over the next couple of days.

Good luck everyone! Look forward to hearing how your day is going.

Hi Folks!

Yesterday was pretty good...and I'm going to conquer today!

I spent a good part of yesterday pre-sauteeing/steaming vegetables, like Melissa Joulwain describes in "Well Fed."  If you all haven't seen that cookbook yet, it is awesome.  I find a lot of the stuff easier than on NomNomPaleo (which is also awesome, but why are so many of her recipes with a sous vide machine?)  So I've got tons of veggies ready to go for a few days!

Now I'm off to CrossFit to see if I can PR my clean and jerk!

Have a great day!!!
