So I never post comments or posts in forums but I feel like this time needs to be different. Tomorrow my family and I will begin our first whole30 challenge. I am excited, nervous, and a little scared. Excited because I feel like this is a point in my life where my health will begin to change, nervous because I am one to find excuses for everything and I tend to give up all to quickly, and scared because I have picked probably the second worst month of the year for me to give up the foods I have loved for so long. In the first two weeks of the challenge I have two weddings to attend and I am hosting a baby shower for my friend. I truly hope I am able to withstand the temptations I know will be there. But this is exactly why I have decided to join the forum. I hope I can receive encouragement and support from those who have or are doing the challenge.

Hi!

It's so good to hear that you have your whole

Family on board! It will be difficult at times, but you will be great support for each other.

To make it easier, perhaps changing your mindset is a good idea! This isn't about giving up food you love. You are introducing foods that promote good health and vitality. You are giving up food that makes you sick, bloated, and promotes inflammation and disease.

Having some big events may be tricky, but it'll also help you disassociate food with celebrating. Food doesn't make these events special - it's the people, and the friendships that are important.

Hope it goes well for you :)

Hello my friend! So happy to see you on here and looking forward to following your journey!

You've got my number if you have any questions or just need to be talked down off ledges or whatnot.

I totally agree with everything Amber said above and I know you can do it!

So day 1 went pretty well. I was up early and had tons of energy to start but then around 2 I became really tired and ended up taking a short nap. The rest of the day went ok until around dinner time and continuing thru today I felt kind of sick and just plan gross. An hour or two after eating I start to feel hungry, which use to happen pretty often, but now I recognize it not as a true hunger but a craving for something that might taste good now but be doing harmful things to my body. It's great to have that knowledge and have power over it but along with it has come the desire to be sick. I feel like I am battling to keep my food down. Is that normal? I also have had a headache all day which I ne'er stand can be normal for a few days. Thanks for the support ladies!

The headache is definitely a normal side effect of sugar/carb detox. I've not personally experienced the nausea but I've seen a lot of people complain about it on here. What were your meals for day 1? How are they different from what you normally eat?

Breakfast was scrambled eggs with orange, yellow peppers, and tomato. Lunch was lettuce tacos. Pretty much ground beef with homemade taco seasoning wrapped in lettuce with leftover peppers. Dinner was grilled chicken thighs with a salad made of lettuce, peppers, tomato, beets, cucumbers with a olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. Dinner probably wasn't too different from what I might have but I don,t normally eat breakfast and for lunch it was usually a sandwich or something fried or microwaved.

If you are not used to eating breakfast that could possibly account for how you are feeling. Another thought is if you are eating more raw vegetables than you are used to it could cause stomach discomfort while you adjust. Don't forget to add a fat serving to your first two meals. 1/2 an avocado would have been a good addition to both. Your meals look really good otherwise! The initial adjustment period kind of sucks, but hang in there...it is worth it.

I did it! I made it thru my first wedding without straying from the program. It was hard and I wasn't well prepared but I stuck to my guns and only ate whole30 approved items. Which wasn't a lot so after the wedding my hubby took me by the store where I got some hard boiled eggs and cashews. It was hard not to focus on the food, especially when they had what looked like an amazing dessert bar. My next task is to bake a cake for the baby shower this weekend. I love to bake and when I bake I tend to taste as I go, so I know I will need to be super vigilant while baking and decorating the cake.
