I'm sorry you are getting sick. It probably is just bad timing though I did "happen" to get a cold about the same time during both my 30 day challenges. If you are taking antibiotics make sure you are eating foods that support happy good bacteria in your gut as the antibiotics will kill it all. Saurekraut, kimchi, and kombucha are all good things to do that.

Good job resisting those sweets!

Thanks Bethany - I will take your advice with the saurekraut & kombucha. I will have to google kimchi as I've never heard of it lol

Day 5

Woke up feeling really, really awful. Like I had the flu!! Feels like a full on chest infection. Went to work and everyone there diagnosed me with a chest infection too lol Us nurses are so good at self-diagnosing. Anyway, I have taken an antibiotic and will perhaps take a day or two more but am wondering if this is more of the massive detox I'm putting my body through - will post a question for some of the advanced members advice.

Food wise:

B: Bit naughty as I got caught up with doing stuff for my son and prepping for dinner so didn't really have anything.

L: Steak, fried egg, left over roast veg

D: Salmon patties x 2 and big salad with 2 boiled eggs

S: Almonds (handful) and salmon pattie x 1, oh and a boiled egg

Not too bad a shift until someone plonked down a HUGE bowl of mini chocolate bikkies AND a big cake of chocolate. I was sooooo good. It was really good that todays daily email covered what to do so I just went to my zen place and I was cool. I did pick the bowl up and smell the chocolate a couple of times hahahaha which is really funny because I'm not really that much of a chocolate person.

Anyway, that led to "why aren't you having any" which led to "sugar isn't that bad for you" and "that sounds like a very restrictive diet" etc etc etc I just couldn't be bothered arguing (feeling crappy) so just kind of let them talk amongst themselves hahaha

So pretty good day today - I think it's getting easier! Off to click the button and get my reward.....

"I just couldn't be bothered arguing (feeling crappy) so just kind of let them talk amongst themselves"

That's funny :-) Good girl.

Hi Jayne!

It's amazing that you've had two completely unrelated people suggest EFT for your earthquake anxiety.  It's a sign!  :D

The message from the Universe was really cool, too.  You've just got no end of support!

I really hope tomorrow is better for you, but even if it's not, you'll make it through.  And it WILL get better before you know it.

Take care!

Yes, it was a bit freaky having EFT mentioned twice! I will definitely look into it on my days off.

So Day 6 is done! I can't believe it - I've nearly done a whole week!!

Food wise:

B: 1 x salmon pattie (just so I could take my antibiotic) I know I shouldn't skip meals but I just couldn't face anything.

L: Chicken thigh with roast root veg, boiled broccoli & brussel sprouts with mayo

D: Same as lunch

S: 2 x salmon patties, mandarin, almonds

Still feeling a bit blah with this chest infection but surprisingly not as unwell as you'd think. I'm sniffy and sneezy on occasion but not all the time and wonder if eating clean for nearly a week is actually why I don't feel too bad.

Fairly quiet night at work but didn't get 'out of control' hungry. Easily passed on the chocolate bars and scones with butter and jam.

I have been sleeping a bit better lately too and noticing that I wake up feeling less groggy. I have been closing my curtains so my room is more cave-like - which is hard to do because I used to love to lie in bed and look at the trees through my window. Amazing when the moon is out. But I have been good and following the plan.

I'm starting to enjoy my cups of tea with no sugar but haven't had a coffee for a day or two as I find that doesn't quite taste as good.

All in all, I think I'm doing ok. Get the occasional craving - like tonight at work I thought I'd love a glass of wine when I get home, realized I couldn't have one, got a bit annoyed with the whole W30 thing - then it passed and I was ok. hahahaha

Roll on Day 7 - I'm ready for ya!

Day 7

YAY Me! One whole week down.

Feeling up and down today. Busy night at work and thankfully no naughty treats to tempt me. Food wise ok, except breakfast again. I really have to work on that. I was supposed to print out the weekly goal recap sheet as I couldn't get it to download here at home but I was just too busy to do anything but save lives (lol). I will go over my goals again anyway tomorrow.

The other thing that I have planned for tomorrow - now that the really bad low energy days have gone - is to make a proper meal plan and work out what I need to buy and prepare for the week. It's been really good writing down in this journal everything that I've eaten as it's going to make it easy to see what I might need for next week (eg: 56 boiled eggs hahahaha) You know what I mean!

I've also created a template in word for me to record my meals daily - when I have ironed out any kinks I will post it on here. So onto the food:

B: Umm I think I ate a .. oh no, um a cup of tea with coconut milk.

L: Big arse salad with a boiled egg and 2 x salmon patties

D: Chicken thigh, roast veg, broccoli & brussel sprouts with mayo

S: Salmon patties x 2, handful of almonds

H20: about 700ml

Exercise: Running up and down the ward

Wow, I never, ever thought I could do anything like this for a couple of days let alone a whole week. This is such a good feeling.

One week - yay!

Is drinking more water one of your goals?  Because 700ml sounds a bit on the low side.

For breakfast, I've seen recipes for egg/veggie "muffins" made ahead of time in muffin tins.  Easy to pop a couple into the microwave or toaster oven in the morning for a really quick breakfast with minimal fuss.  Perhaps something like that could help you establish a breakfast habit?  I'm used to having breakfast (I'd be miserable if I tried to skip it), but some days, I need the quick and easy route too.

You're doing great!  :)

Thanks Darlene - yes I do need to up the water and sort something out for breakfast don't I - will make that a priority this week.

So I got so busy and then went to bed early last night so I didn't get to post my meals for DAY 8 !

B: Salmon Pattie x1, Salad, Boiled Egg x1 & mayo

L: Chicken Thigh, roast veg, broccoli & mayo

D: Big Thick Steak, Salad, 2 x boiled eggs & mayo

S: pistachio nuts, coffee & coconut cream x2, tea & coconut milk x2

E: shamefully none

H20: 500ml (not counting the teas and coffees)

Spoke to my best friend today and told her what I'm doing - she's so supportive and was utterly gob-smacked that I had done 8 days without any wine!! hahaha see, I told you I was a lush. I told her that after a week or two of a break after this one I'd like to do it again and want her to do it with me lol there was a bit of a silence on the phone but she is going to think about it.

Day 9

A so-so day busy helping my son sort out his study loan - which took ALL day <groan> didn't even get to do much meal planning blah

B: Omelette (2 eggs)

L: Salmon pattie (1), salad, boiled egg, balsamic & mayo

D: small tin of salmon, boiled egg, salad, balsamic & mayo

S: Mandarin, Berries & whipped coconut cream with a sprinkle of cashews

E: None

H20: not enough

So the best news of the day is this: Yesterday I opened a can of coconut cream that I had in the cupboard (because I ran out of coconut milk) and it was all hard and congealed on the top eeww. So I spooned it into a bowl and then discovered all this runny water at the bottom of the can. yuk I thought. Brilliant idea - I'll reincorporate it all back together using my food processor (I can hear you saying: this girl clearly has no clues when it comes to this new food group!!) So what happened??? Whipped coconut cream - I dipped my finger in it and HEAVEN - who KNEW??? Well, obviously most of the people on this site - but not me until now.

So tonight when I went shopping I bought some frozen berries (boysenberries, raspberries & blueberries) and I just had some berries with the HEAVENLY whipped coconut cream and sprinkled some almonds on top. OMG - now I am not a dessert person but that was GLORIOUS.

Going to bed feeling very happy. tra la la la la

Have been a bit slack on here haven't I. Was going to post every day that I've missed but I'm not going to as they aren't very awe inspiring but very definitely compliant.

I had a mini meltdown last night which I ranted about under the troubleshooting section and got some really nice replies - very encouraging and some great words of wisdom (which I will be trying to follow).

Still not good on the breakfast front but will be working to change that. Exercise is faring a little better but could still be improved on. I went for a couple of 40 minute walks in the last two days and this morning I did 15 minutes of a hip hop abs dvd (before I nearly died lol).  But I have work tonight so I know I will get in lots of walking up and down the ward.

WOW I'm actually on Day 18 today - I can hardly believe it.

a thought on the exercise and breakfast.....what if you got up, went for a walk (or did a workout dvd) then had breakfast?

stomaching a small preWO before the walk may be easier than breakfast first thing, then the time spent walking, as well as the walk, may make you in the mood for a proper meal?

Thanks Amberino - that is a good idea. I do feel hungry after exercise so that could be my answer. Unfortunately I didn't get to test it out this morning as I slept in hideously and am now frantically making dinner for the kids tonight (Whole30 Beef Stew so I can have left-overs tomorrow) and making my dinner for tonight (ISWF Salmon cakes).

Yesterdays Meals: Day 18

B: oops

L: Baked Monkfish, Salad & a boiled egg (with mayo)

D: Leftover roasted heart, roast veg, broccoli, cauli, brussel sprouts & mayo.

S: Mini muffin x 1

E: Walking up and down the ward all night (very busy shift - only sat down to eat and write my notes!)

H2O: Did better here today 1.5L

Walked right on past the big box of chocolates a patient had given us with not a care in the world lol

Going to do todays meals now:

Day 19

B: half a meat muffin, cup of tea with coconut cream & cup of coffee with coconut cream

L: Salmon pattie x 1, roast veg, broccoli, cauli & a fried egg (in coconut oil) cup of tea with coconut milk

D: Salmon patties x 2, salad & boiled egg with mayo

S: Salmon patties x 2

E: Plank & leg lifts (all I could fit in)

H2O: Aiming for 2L tonight

Off to work - will addend anything I need to later.

Day 20

B: still working on it

L: Huge salad with lots of prawns, an avocado and mayo - yummmy

D: Left over W30 compliant beef stew (used some of my bone broth in it), roast root veg & broccoli

E: none because Miss 15 NEEDED sushi and I had to get to work so I drove to the shop instead of walking (grrrr)

H2O: 1.5L

Fairly busy shift so did get quite a bit of walking up and down the ward in tonight! Not much else to report except I'm pretty pleased with myself for getting where I am. My uniform feels looser and I think I might need a belt on my jeans soon as I'm constantly hiking them up (hahahaha soooo coooool).

My eldest son (21) is my biggest fan and everyday when I see him he says "Day ??????" and I fill in the blank - then he gives me a high five. hahahaha love it. He was actually the one who told me to get on the forum a few days back when I was having a mini  meltdown and just wanted to chuck it all in for a wine lol so glad I followed his advice cos I got some great support when I needed it most.

Oh well, off to bed - one more pm shift and then a couple of night shifts - will have to be snack prepared for that!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Day 27 DONE and let me just say that "I can't believe that little old me has nearly rocked this W30"

I'm just sooooo pleased with myself. Sorry for not posting but my meals have been totally compliant, if a tad boring at times. I'm even beginning to think outside the square in the kitchen - fantastic for someone who can't cook lol

For example: today I roasted up a nice piece of heart (yes I love them) with some tomato paste and my yummy salt (the one my friend makes with porcini mushrooms, herbs & salt in it - yum). Anyway, I also sliced some brussel sprouts and zuchini and fried them with some coconut oil. When I put that all into my dinner box (for work) with the leftover roast root veg it just all looked a bit dry and sad. Gravy was out so I did a bit of experimenting, I put some tomato paste in my frying pan and then stirred in some coconut milk and added a generous dash of special salt. YUMMO - it was tomatoey and creamy and delicious. Poured that over the top and enjoyed it tonight at work. What do you know?? Maybe there's hope for me in the kitchen yet!!

I also did some pilates yesterday and am pleased and sore to report that I think I must have been doing it right as I can definitely feel it today. Oh and in another bulletin on the exercise front, I dragged out my kids old pram (yes, I still have it and don't ask why) gave it a good clean and trotted off to the supermarket. I think I got some really strange looks from some people but I pushed that empty pram for 25 minutes to the shop, loaded all my shopping up into it and pushed it all the way home again. Nice bit of exercise, didn't have to carry anything and saved on petrol - win, win win!! Will be doing that again.

So, it's getting close to the finish line and I guess I wouldn't be human if I didn't think about what I'm going to reintroduce. As it's my birthday the day after I finish I have planned dinner already - Roast lamb, and roast veg WITH cauliflower cheese (OMG) and some gravy. I will also be having a wine (probably only one glass as I will no doubt be pickled on one glass after this long hahahaha).

Long term though I'm wondering about a little bit of cheese, maybe NOT introduce sugar back in my tea/coffee and probably not milk either. I've gotten used to coconut milk/cream and it's actually not that bad at all. Will be giving this a little bit more thought over the next day or two.

AND - I never thought I'd say this - BUT I'm thinking of doing it all again after a couple of weeks break. That thought alone may keep me from introducing anything too addictive back in so it's not too hard to start again.

Well, enough ranting for one night - Just one last thought:

I have been nursing a lovely older man for the last few nights who has been such a delight. He has the most beautiful singing voice and we have been doing some duets in the lounge later at night after my obs round lol. Anyway, I have some days off now and he's probably going home tomorrow so I went and saw him in the lounge to say goodbye. We had a big hug and I wished him well. I teared up a bit as I left the lounge then (as I am now) as he has pancreatic cancer and probably has about 6 weeks to live. Arohanui Mr M.

Love someone close to you (or a total stranger) anyway you want to show it. Life is such a gift isn't it???

Jayne this report makes me so happy! You have come so far on this journey! Yay! Definitely make a definite plan for the next month whether it be a proper full reintro (as outlined in the book) or to just offroad a little for a couple of weeks and go back to W30. If you decide to do another W30 decide when and put it on the calendar now.

Thanks Bethany - yes, I've already started to write down things that I will do differently and/or improve on next time.

I won't do a full reintro just a little bit of offroading for a couple of weeks.

As for the date - I'm still working on that - was thinking the 16th but that might be too far away. Hmmm will give it more thought.

Oh and as an extra special surprise - this morning I realised that I was actually on Day 28 yesterday and it's Day 29 today. I love it when I'm crap at math sometimes hahahaha
