Whole Amy
I am on day 15 and I am still having a hard time combatting the urge to snack. I eat meal 1 at 7:15 - usually 3 eggs and sweet potatos or today was a chicken breast with pumpkin mash and coconut flakes. By 9:30 I have the urge to eat...I hold it off until 10:15 and then I usually have a handful of huts. Then....I am not hungry for lunch at noon when I get my lunch break because I ate the nuts. I think my meal 1 is big enough? Maybe not? Would love any advice on how to get out of this.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted August 5, 2013 Moderators Share Posted August 5, 2013 Sometimes eating starchy veggies in the morning can stimulate hunger. Maybe find other vegetables to go with your eggs - onions, mushrooms, tomatoes... Or my favorite.... cold sauerkraut.
msssjenna
I would add another vegetable to breakfast. Eating a sweet potato is good, but like Tom suggested add something to your eggs, or have sauteed/roasted veggies on the side.
Irish Rose
I never have starches in the morning until after a workout to replenish glycogen. I find a breakfast rich in protein and fat staves off hunger for longer. In fact, if not training I don't have any real carbs until my evening meal. There is a lot of research that suggest having carbs in the last meal aids sleep. Keeping them out during the day will mean you are in ketosis which suppresses appetite. Fats such as avocado are great during the day.
Bet
Are you sure you are getting enough fat?
Whole Amy
Today I changed it up and ate more fat than usual - I had 3 whole eggs scrambled with ghee, 1 whole avocado and tomato slices. We will see how long this combo holds me over. I was telling my husband this morning, I had more fat at breakfast than I used to have a whole day! Thank you everyone for your ideas and input....I LOVE THESE BOARDS!!!
amberino21
I was going to suggest more fat, as well as more non starchy vegies.....i fill my plate with grilled zucchini, steamed broccoli/ beans, sautéed cabbage, as well as the mushrooms/onion/herbs in my omelette Hope the avo helped you get past the snacking stage! Whole Amy
So - I have upped my breakfast for two days now....and I still want to snack in the morning. I think it might be a habit I just need to break, I know am full from meal 1 - but my mind says "food, now". I am realizing it is just a mid-morning slump that I need to get past. Today I have a YUMMY lunch to look forward to so I am focusing on that along with a nice walk. I can make it until noon!
Bet
It could be a mental thing. I was used to having breakfast at home, then when I got to work, I had a cup of tea and a banana. Like smoking, the ritual of drinking tea and eating my banana while going through my morning email was ingrained in me. I wasn't really hungry, but my memory was telling me it was time to eat. It may take a week or two to adjust mentally. I like to eat a lot of fat in the AM, I find it keeps me good throughout the day. I still have fat with my other meals, just not as much. srice11
I agree with PPs. When I eat starchy veggies at breakfast, I am hungry in the morning. If my breakfast is protein + fat + non-starchy veggies in the morning, I can go no-problem until lunch.
