Frank's RedHot Wing Sauce - Buffalo

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

New to this Whole30 thing and so far so good.  But my question is on this sauce, is it compliant?

Ingredients: Distilled vinegar, aged cayenne red peppers, salt, water, canola oil, paprika, xanthan gum, sodium benzoate (as a preservative), natural butter type flavor and garlic powder.

My inclination is no because not sure what xantham gum is and the natural butter type flavor.

What say you all .... good or no?

Thanks!

Try Franks's RedHot Original. The ingredients are: aged cayenne red peppers, distilled vinegar, water, salt and garlic powder. Just as good and hopefully, compliant.

Crystal is my favorite, but it isn't very hot.

You can also go for a little extra effort and make this "peanut" wing sauce from PaleoPlan.com:

  • 2 Tbs almond butter
  • 1/4 cup hot pepper sauce (with no added sugar or preservatives; may use 2 Tbs tomato paste and an additional 2 Tbs of olive oil as a milder alternative)
  • 1 - 2 Tbs coconut aminos (tastes like soy sauce)
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt (optional)

The ingredients for the wing sauce are okay, but you can do better.

I agree. What are you using the Frank's wing sauce for? Let us know and I'm sure we can provide interesting and healthful alternate sauces or seasonings! :)

I'd like to revive this discussion... Frank's Red Hot Wings Sauce (Buffalo flavor) ingredients have changed. It no longer has sodium benzoate in it, but I'm still not clear on the Natural Butter Type Flavor. Is this just another way to say Natural Flavors?

I would follow the above suggestion of using Frank's Red Hot Original and ghee but I'm not making wings (because they're a trigger food for me), I'm just thinking about using it as regular hot sauce and/or for dipping raw veggies. I would rather use something I already have in the fridge than make another purchase as my grocery bill has gone up quite a bit already.

Current ingredient list:

distilled viengar, aged cayenne red peppers, salt, water, canola oil, paprika, xanthan gum, natural butter type flavor, garlic powder

Thoughts?

you would not be able to use this at home because of the canola oil... canola oil only being permitted when eating out if nothing else is available and not for home use... sooooo close!
