MommyBeth04
Hello. My husband and I sort of began our first Whole 30 this weekend. We are new to the Paleo lifestyle and started easing into it this weekend. We avoided most foods on the NO list. So far I'm feeling great and enjoying it (of course today was our first completely compliant day). For the last couple days my husband has been dealing with dizziness and nausea. I'm guessing this is the dreaded carb flu. Any suggestions for improving his eating or tips for curbing the nausea would be greatly appreciated. I haven't kept a journal, but this is what I can remember. Saturday M1 3-4 eggs, raw veggies (carrots and tomatoes?) M2 2 hamburger patties, 1 hot dog, lettuce salad, cauliflower/broccoli salad, cabbage salad (cub scout picnic) M3 turkey breast, raw veggies Sunday M1 3 eggs, coconut oil, carrots/tomatoes M2 ground beef with peppers/olives/onion/zucchini cooked in coconut oil M3 Steak, green beans with marinade including olive oil, corn, salad with a little italian dressing, berries (dinner at mom's) Monday M1 3 eggs cooked in ghee, leftover pattypan squash with chickpeas Snack: Plum M2 4 oz roast beef, 1/4 avo, lettuce, banana, a few raw veggies M3 pulled pork, bbq sauce (homemade and whole 30 OK), Curried Cream of Broccoli soup (YUM), swiss chard sauteed in ghee or coconut oil...don't remember which I grabbed. Tuesday (First truly compliant day) M1 2 eggs cooked in ghee, sweet potato hash cooked in coconut oil, ground beef M2 Chicken breast, bbq sauce (same as before), banana, peach, a few veggies M3 Chicken Thighs, arugula/tomato salad with olive oil/vinegar dressing, green beans drizzled in olive oil Thanks for reading! GFChris
Ok, so today would be Whole30 day 1 and your previous 3 days would be a warm-up. It doesn't look like you're eating enough, especially the vegetables. Shoot for 1-2 cups of veggies per meal. Make sure your protein is 1-2 palm sizes. Snacks should be a mini-meal, including a protein and fat. Maybe raw veggies don't agree with your husband: try cooking them instead. Is he sufficiently hydrated? Should be drinking water in the amount of at least 1/2 his body weight in ounces, daily.
MommyBeth04
Thanks. I think I'll encourage him to eat his veggies, cooked or raw, first. He typically leaves them for last and doesn't eat as much of them. I'm not sure about his water, but I'll check with him.
Pam Jones
Hi, I am into day 11 of the Whole 30 and I am struggling everyday with dizziness. My husband and I have been doing Paleo for quite sometime, so I didnt think this would be too bad. We dont really use dairy and sugar at a minimum. Any suggestions?? Physibeth
On the dizziness...are you salting your foods appropriately? Cutting out processed foods greatly reduces the amount of salt we get in our diet which for me always causes dizziness. When you cook all your own food you can salt liberally! missmunchie
I get dizzy when I don't eat enough carbs. Make sure you're doing a lot of starchy veggies (sweet potato, squash, etc), especially if you're new to the paleo stuff.
