Swim Bike Mom
I am on Day 5, and beginning to ramp up my training for my third half Ironman (7 weeks away). Today at lunch, I ate salmon, spinach, raw cashews ....and I feel like I just ate a Supersized McDonald's meal. What gives?

Bethany Lannon
Cashews caused inflammation maybe? Or raw spinach not sitting well? :-/
amberino21
Too much fat (depending on the amount of salmon/nuts you ate) and not enough vegies?
beachchica
How was your diet before you started your Whole30? I'm just asking because it's possible the nasty symptoms from days 1-4 took longer to affect you. If you were already eating pretty clean paleo, then it's probably about the amount of fat in your meal. I know when I eat a lot of fatty fish (salmon or sardines) without enough veggies to balance it, I feel a little nauseous after.
AmyS
I am on Day 5, and beginning to ramp up my training for my third half Ironman (7 weeks away). Today at lunch, I ate salmon, spinach, raw cashews ....and I feel like I just ate a Supersized McDonald's meal. What gives? How does the feeling compare? Bloating, cramps, digestive issues? Nuts cause lots of people lots of problems - bloating and gas and increased feelings of desperate hunger, for starters. Salmon, spinach, and nuts sounds like a pretty light lunch - was the spinach raw? Was the salmon fatty enough? Unlike amberino above, I suspect a lack of fat and insufficient veggies along with overreliance on nuts. It kind of sounds like a low-fat diet with a few nuts sneaked in to fool yourself into thinking it's Whole30. In order to get like two cups of spinach you have to kind of eat a mountain of the stuff (I know this as along-time spinach afficionado - it wilts down to nothing). Whatever the causes and (hopefully simple) tweaks, I hope that by the time you come back to read responses it has resolved itself. I haaaaate tummy troubles, especially on Whole30, when I'm trying to feel better, not worse! Sending calm tum vibes your way. Here's hoping something you read in the responses to your original post clicks and makes a difference for you.
