Christina Cowell
So, I have a favourite drink: half a squeezed lemon in sparkling water. Yesterday I looked at a new sparkling mineral water that that I'd purchased and in the list of minerals there's SULFITES! WHAT?! Then I went online and read that there's really sulfites in most bottled water and in a lot of tap water too... Has anyone else heard of this? Do I need to be concerned or are those some sort of "natural" sulfites?? Grouch.
Moderators Tom Denham Posted August 10, 2013 Moderators Share Posted August 10, 2013 Naturally occurring sulphites are produced during a fermentation process. Water does not ferment, so bottled water would not contain "naturally occurring sulphites." Added sulphites make bottled waters containing them Whole30 unfriendly. I have no information about the presence of added sulphites in tap water.
Christina Cowell
Well, that just blew my August W30 completely out of the water! I've been having it every day! Everything else I've been completely compliant in. That is REALLY ANNOYING!
GFChris
Are you sure it's not sulfates that are in your sparkling water? Sulfates are fine. Sulfites are not.
Christina Cowell
I thought that both sulphates and sulphites are no-nos? Or are sulphates different than sulfates??? SOOOO CONFUSING! I'll have to double-check the bottle regarding that.
GFChris
Nope, sulfates are different from sulfites. Sulfates, again, are acceptable on a Whole30. It's the sulfites that are the no-no's.
Susan W
Sulfates are in almost all (if not all) drinking water. It comes from the soil and is produced by decaying organisms. That sounds gross, but it is very naturally in soil.
Christina Cowell
Thanks everyone! I bet it actually said sulphates.... I was under the impression that sulphites and sulphates were no-nos. Thanks for clearing it up!
WilliamPang
I think a good drinking water bottel made by a reputed company is free from sulphite.I purchased a water bottel made by foodbeverageasia and it is also free from sulphite...
